All in all I'd say this was a great day. And we even have a little more coming with the Smash Bros. roundtable in 15 minutes.

Haven't been posting because I've been too busy watching! After sitting through four boring press conferences yesterday (well, I didn't watch all of EA's), Nintendo's all-day coverage has been a breath of fresh air. If I learned anything from yesterday's pressers, it's that I have particular tastes in games that are decidedly different from "mainstream" gaming. I guess I already knew that, but this just reinforces my awareness. With that said, I wouldn't say Nintendo dropped any huge bombshells. They showed mostly what I expected, but I can't complain because it's the kind of show I wanted to see from them. It was a solid show done with style, and aimed squarely at fans. I'm still excited for all the same stuff that I was before today, with the additions of Yoshi's Wooly World (which I hadn't seen enough of before this know if I was interested) and (surprisingly) Mario Maker. Making my own Mario levels sounds awesome, and doing it with a Mario Paint interface is even better! (Did you notice the return of Undo Dog?) I've been glued to my computer all day like the big geek that I am taking it all in. And I can't believe there's even more on the way! I can't remember the last time I had this much fun following E3! If this is how Nintendo is going to do E3 from now on, then screw live press conferences!

I just noticed that choosing Random in Smash no longer randomises colours. I hated that one and I'm so glad it's gone.
There are so much I can say about Smash that, well, I'll do that in the Smash thread later. If I even have the time to. There's nothing too jawdroppingly awesome, but the constant feed of information is great.
Now where can I catch news in the roundtable?

Looks like GoNintendo will do a live blog for the Smash roundtable.

Man I feel ya. After watching Microsoft's press conference I basically thought 'Welp, guess I'm officially a casual gamer. None of this interests me.' Then comes Nintendo's presentation and now I'm wondering how I can even play all these games. I've been following most of it (until the end of the invitational) while chatting with an old bud, so my impressions/reactions of the whole thing: - Exclamating a 'holy shit' and cackling like an idiot during the Iwata/Reggie showdown, it was ridiculous. Oh and Mii looks pretty great, nothing like I expected. Hopefully they can balance the very different movesets pretty well. - Splatoon looks so, so much fun. Really like the aesthetics too. Too bad it's 2015, this is one of the games I'm really looking forward to trying out. - Mario Maker is.... strangely a bit dissapointing? Might be because of some early leaks, but I expected a lot more options (like the E-reader SMB3 levels). The stages looked short and they hit an enemy limit during placement. I hate those limitations. - Miyamoto's Robot and tower defense looked pretty goofy and fun, but I don't think I'll end up buying those. The camera game is something my non-gaming family could get into aswell. - Yoshi Wooly World seems to be as hard as Kirby Epic Yarn, which is fine by me, the latter being a pretty chillazing experience. - Toad Treasure Tracker looks great! There's a boxart floating around of it while I kind of expected it to be an Eshop title. Wonder what that means for the price, I was expecting 15-20 bucks. - That treehouse livestream after the presentation was fantastic. A bunch of knowledgable people showing off the game and having a good time, podcast style. And it worked, I went from being 'ehhh' about X and Hyrule Warriors to 'I might have to get this'. - That Smash invitation was pretty fun. The 4th chaotic FFA and the final showdown were the best. Announcers flipping out during Megaman's Final Smash was great too. And Geoff Keighley visibly not giving a shit about the whole thing was hilarious to me. So yeah, great E3 showing by Nintendo so far. Oh and that latest Pacman for Smash reveal got me hella psyched. I mean, I was already okay with Pacman, but I totally expected new-cartoon-dumbass Pacman, not oldschool-arcade-flyer Pacman. And his attacks consists of other classic Namco IPs?! Ffff, might be more stoked to try him than Megaman right now. Guess I'm gonna have to post this again Even without any new surprises this E3 from this point on it's pretty obvious Nintendo won for me, by a landslide.

Also, has Arcadenik spazzed about Capt. Toad's game? I know I would if I loved Toads so much. I literally screamed and jumped for joy when I first saw Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. I cannot believe that Toad finally got his own game 20 years after Wario's Woods!!! I really enjoyed The Adventures of Captain Toad in Super Mario 3D World and I'm very happy that Nintendo is going to add a lot of depth and variety to that concept. I love how Toad's own game pays homage to Super Mario Bros. 2 with vegetables and Shy Guys... and to Wario's Woods with diamonds and dragons (I know it is not Dorago but still). I also like how they gave Toad a pickax and he can swing it wildly like the hammer in Donkey Kong arcade. I would lose my mind if they somehow incorporated obscure SMB2 enemies like Phanto, Autobomb, Albatoss, and even the whales into puzzles... or the anti-gravity gameplay like Super Mario Galaxy games to mimic Toad's ability to walk on walls in Wario's Woods... but I shouldn't hold my breath for them to happen when I should be content with what the game already offers. I'm so fucking hyped for Toad's own game!!! I wonder if this game would have multiplayer mode. I think it would be fun to play as the rest of the Toad Brigade and maybe Toadette and Toadsworth. I know, I know... don't ask for too much. Damn... Nintendo really delivered... Toad's own game. About time he gets the respect he deserves. My little mushroom retainer is finally a superstar.

Captain Toad is not a distinct character from the Toad?

Meh, in my headcanon... Captain Toad is the same Toad from Super Mario Bros. 2 and Wario's Woods and the Red Toad from Super Mario Sunshine.

I've divided them all into Toad, Red Toad, and Captain Toad >.>;
But I can see Toad being promoted into a captain instead of merely being a palace guard.
Heh, this topic reminds me of the days when people thought Toad got old and became Toadsworth.

Back in Super Mario Sunshine I assumed the red Toad was Toad since the other four Toads were new. In Super Mario Galaxy, I assumed the five Toads were the same ones from Sunshine, only now each given more distinct qualities. Of note, the red one was the leader and had a headlamp and a backpack. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the Blue and Yellow Toads were made playable and specifically named "Blue Toad" and "Yellow Toad", so I knew neither of them was Toad and assumed they were indeed the same blue and yellow Toads from the previous two games. In Super Mario 3D World, the red Toad is now named "Captain Toad" and the blue Toad is just called Toad. Given what was established in the three games before this, it's stand to reason Captain Toad is Toad and the blue Toad is still Blue Toad, but not named as such for whatever reason. Either it was an oversight, they wanted to save text space on the character select, or they didn't feel the need to point out his color since he's the only Toad you can pick on the menu. Or maybe Toad gave his old name to Blue Toad after getting promoted to "Captain".

I feel like Nintendo is trying to say that there never has been a singular Toad, but the spin-off games keep getting in the way of that

Yeah, but in Super Mario RPG there is one Toad named "TOAD" in the text box (even in Japan he's named "Kinopio"), so I'm guess if it's not true now, then it must've been true at some point. Maybe I should add this to my Mario re-writes thread.

Fossil Fighters: Frontier confirmed for NA release.
Cars/trucks with guns and dinosaurs, what a great combination.
(Listen to the English vocal song in the background of the trailer).
