- The NinDB Top 25 - Cancelled Introduction It's been a year, and it's time for the NinDB community to create a new Top 25! This year, I'll give everyone a lot more time to get their votes in, so hopefully we'll have a slightly better voter turnout. Otherwise, things will be mostly the same.
How To Vote Simply post your list of up to 25 (minimum 10) of your favorite games to appear on Nintendo consoles. Number them 1-25, with you top choice first.
Accepted games:
- The game must be officially licensed. - The game can be from any region. - The game must have been released at the time of voting (YL! ). - All digital downloads, including Virtual Console games, are allowed. - Arcade games are allowed as long as they're owned by Nintendo. - Compilations are not allowed.
Use whatever criteria you want to make your list, but you can also think of it this way: what 25 games would you most want to be stuck on a desert island with?
The voting deadline is Wednesday, April 15 (give or take).
How Votes Are Tallied Games will be ordered according to the following hierarchy:
Most points > most votes > most previous appearances > highest previous position > Earliest release date
Ports of games will be lumped together. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. If you want to vote for a particular version of a game, please discuss it with me first, but it probably won't be a big deal.
In case you want to see what everyone voted for last time.

I, uh, came from the future. I can confirm that those late 2015 games are indeed awesome and what I'll want to play.
I guess I'll have to take a while to think about this one. As I said before, 2014 was mostly void of Nintendo platform titles for me. I'm not going to assume that "desert island" situation, because I'll be taking things like game genre into consideration.
I guess this is what I will do: in the context of the last year (April 2014 to March 2015), pick my favourite games as is. My reply will come in a while, since 25 games are a lot to ask for. I suspect that not counting those short, one-off games (think escape games), I have played less than 200 unique titles in my entire time.
If there'll be a 2016 vote, my answer may be more obvious.

My list is pretty similar to last year, just with some small additions.
1. Hyrule Warriors This game has been my addiction since the fall. Just all the Zelda fanservice and creativity makes it such a joy to play.
2. Rhythm Heaven Fever The ultimate mini game compilation, and ultimate rhythm game. This game never gets old is a must have for any gamer.
3. Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem This game is a true love letter to the Archanean saga, and gets bonus points for remaking BS Fire Emblem. My only regret is that it was released on the eve of the 3DS, and never got an official western release.
4. Fire Emblem: Awakening As time moves on I've cooled down on the game somewhat, but I can't deny that it's significant to the series as a whole.
5. Resident Evil 4 The best game in the Resident Evil franchise period. Every thing is done to the highest of levels in this game, and it becomes even better in the Wii port.
6. Metroid Fusion My favourite Metroid game of all. The way the SA-X stalks you constantly adds a level of horror not seen in any other Metroid game.
7. Super Metroid My second favourite Metroid game which really set the tone for the series. Both Super and Fusion are the must plays of the series.
8. Xenoblade Chronicles Best RPG on Wii, and proof of Monolith Soft's greatness. X cannot arrive soon enough.
9. Super Mario 3D World The culmination of great 3D Mario games. Returning Peach and adding Rosalina to the roster adds more points.
10. Baten Kaitos My first RPG outside of Pokémon and it left a long mark on me. A beautiful game in every metric, it made Monolith Soft an important dev in my mind.
11. Mario Kart 8 I think this is the best Mario Kart game to date
12. Battalion Wars 2 A really good improvement to the first game, and added the wonderful naval battles. This game also had the second best online on Wii after Mario Kart Wii.
13. Pokémon: Soul Silver I love Silver, and this game improved on it in every way possible. The addition of following Pokemon made me really bond with my team.
14. Pikmin 3 Another game that drastically improved over its predecessors. Pikmin 3 managed the perfect balance between having a long campaign, but not overstaying its welcome.
15. WarioWare Inc. All WarioWare games are good, but the pick up and play nature of this game makes it such a classic.
16. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U I think this game has the best selection of newcomers since the original game. Shulk, WFT, and Duck Hunt are just such splendid choices.
17. Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone The 3DS sequel to the DSiWare series, it does a very good job of instructing and showcasing art history. When Sketchpad gets updated to add lessons I expect to swap this one out.
18. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze The best game from Retro, they really did justice to DK in this game. Snomads forever!
19. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D A very good remake, but it kind of shows that Ocarina while still a very good game, really is a product of the 90's.
20. Star Fox 64 3D A good remake of a very dated N64 game. My big gripe is that the game is not ambitious enough.
21. Steel Diver: Sub Wars The original SD was a conservative game, the main mode was good, but the extras just didn't measure up. This game did a complete 180 and created a really good multiplayer game.
22. F-Zero GX The feel of satisfaction from achieving the seemingly impossible is amazing, but the game is still too hard for mere men.
23. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword A very good, but safe Zelda game. Groose's character arc and Ghirahim are the real stars of this game.
24. The Wonderful 101 This game is so good. The writing is clever and the game always finds a way to take it up a notch. Stick The Wonderful 102 in my veins now!
25. Animal Crossing: New Leaf In my opinion this game has really refreshed the series which was really stale. Being mayor has given me a reason to actually keep playing, but the slow rate of project requests keeps it near the bottom.

Slightly changed from last year because I have strange video game taste. Too lazy to post reasons:
1. Super Smash Bros. 4 (3DS/Wii U) Mostly 3DS version. Yeah less content, but is portable, making it the winner. 2. Pokemon Black/White (NDS) 3. Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (3DS) 4. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (NDS) 5. Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) 6. EarthBound (SNES) 7. Super Mario 64 (N64) 8. Wario Land 2 (GB) 9. Pokemon Shuffle (3DS) 10. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii) 11. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GCN) 12. Tales of Symphonia (GCN) 13. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GCN) 14. Donkey Kong 64 (N64) 15. Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones (GBA) 16. Pokemon Colosseum (GCN) 17. Super Mario Sunshine (GCN) 18. Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (Wii) 19. Contra (NES) 20. Diddy Kong Racing (N64) 21. Wrecking Crew (NES) 22. Mario Tennis (N64) 23. Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) 24. Shin Onigashima (FDS) 25. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (NDS)
Wii U still has got little interest, despite having purchased one. Not even Smash Wii U has pleased as much as I did with Brawl.

Okay, voting time. I'll try to make my comments short for the sake of the layout. My voting criteria this time would be more straightforward: Just get a list of my favourites (usually games I think of / play / watch the most) this year. Given this context, a lot of what I liked in the past but got bored of would be kicked out. This should make my part of the votes fresher than before. I wrote down the games first before arranging them; it makes my thought process easier, if anything. On second thought, I'd still be spamming the list with a certain few series even if I limit it to this year. The list of games I've touched only seemed diverse before filtering out the non-Nintendo stuff - Flash games, Saturn games, Dreamcast games, Super Mario 64 ROM hacks... ...And if I go for a favourite list per se, it'd be full of Fire Emblem and Kirby again. And then there are games I'm interested in but have yet to play, and... You know what, for games beyond the first 7, I'm not limiting myself to my opinion of this year. And I'll cut off after 15 because I really can't think of anything without repeating my last list. # | Name | Developer | Platforms |
---|
| 1 | Puyopuyo Tetris | SONIC TEAM | 3DS, Wii U, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Xbox One | I've always liked action puzzle games in general, and this game introduced me to the wonderful world of Puyopuyo. First heard of it in Nintendo Direct, and I've been playing it often since I got it.
| 2 | Fire Emblem: Awakening | INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS | 3DS | Lacking a better time-killing game (since I had Smash and PuyoTeto on Wii U), FE13 became my to-go choice whenever I have to wait outside. I have a lot to complain about this game, but it managed to get me playing for 1000 hours.
| 3 | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U | BANDAI NAMCO Games | Wii U | I think we, as Nintendo fans, have had enough coverage on why Smash Wii U is awesome. Counting Non-Nintendo platforms though, it would have placed after those games.
| 4 | Riviera: The Promised Land | STING | WSC, GBA, PSP | A game that I saw long ago, but never got around to play it. I always got distracted by something else. I like its unique systems: weapons, character levels, story branches all work differently from other RPGs I've played.
| 5 | Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn | INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS | Wii | Great characters, great story, nice game length, and generally being more memorable than the others in the series... But... Why art thou so horribly unbalanced?
| 6 | Kirby: Triple Deluxe | HAL Laboratory | 3DS | I started to get warmed up to this game. It's still not good to see many abilities got nerfed, but I started getting used to it. 3DX isn't as good as Wii on average, but when counting "top" advantages (best music, best level, etc), 3DX wins.
| 7 | Kirby and the Rainbow Curse | HAL Laboratory | Wii U | Too short! I did fully expect this though, seeing that Canvas Curse was even shorter. The figures and secret notes add a lot to the game's personality. I just wished the game would get more playable extras.
| 8 | Super Mario 3D World | Nintendo | Wii U | A pretty good 3D platformer that solved a lot of 3D Land's problems, including inappropriate angles and 3D controls in blocky levels. It's got a decent game length too; it does not feel too short.
| 9 | Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~ | INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS | DS | Unlike many players of this game, I like FE12 because it's not the same as FE3. Without Kris's presence, I'd have liked FE6 and FE8 better. Actually, I like those two too. Should I spam my votes with FE titles again? =P
| 10 | Fantastic Parodius - Pursue the Glory of the Past | KONAMI | SFC, PS, SS, AC | That's back when Konami was still about nonsense stuff, nothing-held-back crossovers and shooting games with moai statues, penguins and octopuses. No amount of Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill will make up for this.
| 11 | Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon | Next Level Games | 3DS | This is the last entry I put on the list - even picking a top 15 list isn't easy, because I just didn't get to play many games on Nintendo platforms last year (though it's mostly thanks to PuyoTeto, which is on Wii U).
| 12 | The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds | Nintendo | 3DS | This game is too short - this is both a compliment and a complaint. A lot of its features are "just there", especially the story; but perhaps it's for the best. I ship Link with Irene, which probably wouldn't officially happen.
| 13 | Paper Mario | INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS | 64 | The most standard of Mario RPGs, since it took place right in the Mushroom Kingdom as a simple Mario-versus-Bowser tale. It's also the most effective, conveying a simple tale in a simple way. I like its sequel too, in a different way. (Mario tales are best kept simple, but the dark-ish IS humour works too.)
| 14 | Super Bomberman 2 | HUDSON SOFT | SFC/SNES | Voting this over Super Bomberman 5 this time because of its music and hilariously incompetent AI.
| 15 | Golden Sun: The Lost Age | CAMELOT | GBA | I don't know which to vote: Dark Dawn, which I think about more for certain good aspects, or The Lost Age, which I actually like better because it doesn't unnecessarily creep me out.
|
Other entries that I'd have mentioned if this isn't a Nintendo-centric vote: - Phenotopia (Flash) (see Currently Playing) - Totsugeki! Tonari no Akazukin (Flash) (see Currently Playing) - Seraphisno (Flash/Win) (see Currently Playing) - Cleopatra Fortune (AC/PS2/DC) - Power Stone 2 (DC) - Super Mario: Star Road (64) (Super Mario 64 ROM hack) - Sexy Parodius (AC/PS/SS) - Not Tetris 2 (Win) ...Still not a lot of games, actually. I just don't focus on the quantity of games I play.

One more week!
Here's my vote. Only 20 games on my list. The bottom five looked like a mess, so I just left them off. I may add more games to it later.
1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 2. Super Metroid 3. Yoshi's Island 4. Sin & Punishment: Star Successor 5. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze 6. Xenoblade Chronicles 7. Hyrule Warriors 8. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword 9. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood 10. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 11. Resident Evil 4 12. Sonic Colors 13. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles 14. F-Zero GX 15. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin 16. SSX 3 17. U.N. Squadron 18. Fire Emblem (Rekka no Ken) 19. Super Mario Bros 3 20. StarTropics

Guys, I'm sorry, but it doesn't look like I'll have enough votes to put together a reasonable list, so I think I'm gonna have to call this whole thing off. My sincere apologies to those of you who took the time to vote. Your individual lists are far more interesting than what the aggregated list would look like at this point.
Once again, I apologize.

Since this isn't an "official" result, I'm not including other statistics or comparisons against the 2014 results. Observations: - Fire Emblem totals 148 points. Zelda totals 142. Not that those points actually mean anything. - Three of us have a top game that isn't voted by anyone else. The only exception is Hyrule Warriors. - Yoshi's Island gets voted by one member only!? - Our old traditions continue: Jigglysama's got Pokémon games and old Famicom titles, Leon's votes being mostly Nintendo-centric, Nester is still the Sin & Punishment guy we know him as (and a generally broad profile), and I'm still talking about Japan-only titles. One reason I can think of for the low vote turnover may be that, besides NinDB itself, there just weren't many noticeable games last year. If you ask an average Nintendo fan what 2014 was about, they would most likely answer "Smash, Smash and Smash". And a one-year gap really isn't enough, considering the effort needed to pull together a rather large list that probably wouldn't change that much in just a year (and especially since that year was 2014).
