Have you noticed how the DLC characters and stages get easily integrated into the menus and Classic and All-Star modes of SSB4? I'm wondering how expansible is the All-Star mode. There is a gap between the 1994-1998 period and the 2001-2006 period. Characters that appeared between 1999 and 2000 are: - Paper Mario
- Johto Pokémon and characters, such as Pichu
- Tingle (already Assist Trophy)
- Waluigi (already Assist Trophy)
- Lanky Kong and the others

Outside of Pichu, I honestly don't see anyone in this list joining. In the event that they do, my (completely random) bet is that they'll be lumped to the 1994-1998 group. Makes more sense to me that Nintendo 64 characters fall into the same category.

These are the past stages I hope would come back: Planet Zebes (64), Yoshi's Island (64), Saffron City (64), Kingdom (Melee), Kongo Jungle (Melee), Great Bay (Melee), Fountain of Dreams (Melee), Fourside (Melee), Pirate Ship (Brawl), Summit (Brawl)
I wouldn't mind paying for all these. Hell, I wouldn't mind paying for any extra stages (old and new alike). I just want more stages.
Still, I wonder what Dr. Mario and Rhythm Heaven stages would be like...

People over at Smash Boards are talking about the latest rumor that might or might not be true. Thoughts?

Unless you see hard evidence, like footage, don't believe anything.

You mean like hacks? My take is that I hope this is not true. Bomberman as a partially modified Snake makes zero sense. Can't say much about Shovel Knight, except that who the heck is this guy? We did have Roy back in Melee, but they're perhaps having different criteria now because Smash today is much different than before. It now has more vocal fans and all that. Also, sensasionalism. Where are the Rayman fans now? Personally, I'd like them to stick to just Nintendo, CAPCOM, SEGA and BANDAI NAMCO characters. I'd accept SQUARE ENIX and Koei Tecmo too -- the bottom line is that they should be major Japanese publishers with current ties to Nintendo. Now excuse me while I disable auto-update for my Wii U.

What the fuck is up with all these people wanting Shovel Knight? He's just some indie garbage on every other console! And Shovel Knight got extra characters and stages on PS4 and Xbone. Why would he be in Smash?
Ugh. And the K Rool hype is getting reeeeeeeeally annoying as well. I want him in the game, and I want Isaac. Both would be perfect additions but now we're getting people begging for K Rool who have no idea who he is. It's driving me a little off the wall.

I thought the PS4 and Xbone only got one exclusive boss fight each? When Shovel Knight came out it was only available on PC, Wii U and 3DS, and Nintendo are making Shovel Knight Amiibos. And the Nintendo versions have extra Miiverse/Streetpass stuff other consoles obviously didn't get. So although it's been ported to other stuff since, it's still got a strong Nintendo connection. I haven't played it myself, but all I hear about it is how awesome it is, and how it's one of the most successful indie games ever released on consoles. I can see why people want him in. EDIT: Also this. Apparently Nintendo accounts for exactly half of Shovel Knight's overall sales.

The Shovel Knight amiibo isn't being made by Nintendo, they are lending tech support so that it can be a functional third party accessory, but the manufacturing is being done by a completely separate company (just like the Skylanders amiibo).
The thing about SK (and Shantae) is that they're bandwagon characters the same way that Geno was when Brawl in development. A few loud people get the ball rolling, and suddenly lots of people pile on because it's the cool thing to do. Smash Bros. character debates are serious business after all.

He was the least interesting part of SMRPG (which, compared to Paper Mario and M&L combined, kinda pales now), his design is fugly, and Mallow was infinitely superior to him.

Mallow was the best. Geno was just the dark broody type that everyone loves when they're 12.

He's not even that. He doesn't seem to express any emotion whatsoever besides... determination I guess? He just shows up, delivers a bunch of exposition, then goes dead quiet for almost the entire game until you reach Smithy's place.
