Nintendo also pimped out Shovel Knight quite a bit through the Indie sections of Nintendo Directs and E3 presentations, so by and large, a lot of people at least think of it as a Nintendo centric game. The asthetic doesn't hurt either.

The Shovel Knight amiibo isn't being made by Nintendo, they are lending tech support so that it can be a functional third party accessory, but the manufacturing is being done by a completely separate company (just like the Skylanders amiibo). Really? Huh. Well, I read an interview with people from Yacht Club where they talked about being approached by Nintendo and asked about doing it. And the Shovel Knight Amiibo's up for preorder on Nintendo's store, which I think makes it the only third-party merch available on there. So there's obviously some Nintendo involvement going on even if they're not directly handling it. |

So, uh, we got the first DLC fighter announced, and I can't say I was expecting it. Fits with the pattern of third parties getting multiple characters though.

I will say I'm a little annoyed that the DLC characters so far are more interesting than the newcomers in the base roster.

How true is that rumour?
Either way, I feel nothing, since I don't play Dragon Quest. (Same for Persona 5, since Persona is just too dark for my taste.)

Cool. I'm in the Geno camp, but an NES era rep for Dragon Quest would be wonderful since that game series was such a big part of the NES experience. Obviously its earned its stripes as a Nintendo All-Star in Japan as well.

It's a rumour like any other, but a lot of people believe it's true because Dragon Quest is the only big name Japanese IP still not in Smash.
Kind of don't want, in large part because Koichi Sugiyama is human garbage.

You're god damn right it's nil to me. I don't want my money going to people who deny Japanese war crimes, and are anti LGBT. Considering that Sugiyama is very public about his views, I have to question if his colleagues tacitly approve of them.
