Well, I could see Pokemon having more than 4 attack if they were real. It sorta makes no sense why they wouldn't. How can you forget how to use tackle or bite? But the Thundershock hurting ground types doesn't make any sense. Meowth said Ash's Pikachu is stronger than regular Pikachus, but a One-Hit KO to a ground type seem a bit farfetched.

Of course the games also have some inconsistencies. The game says that Magnemite and Koffing evovle by getting stuck to other Magnemites/Koffing, yet it evovles just like any other Pokemon in the games. Of course it is wrong in the anime also.(Koffing is, I can't remember if a Magnemite ever evolved in the anime) And Suicune's base stat for speed is 85, while a Slaking is 100. Suicune jumps from route to route in a matter of seconds, while Slaking can't even move half the time. Legendary Pokemon are obviously underpowered in the games. But this was done for balance.

Haha, brilliant.

Of course, the more concessions you allow the Pokemon anime, the more concessions you'd have to allow for other videogame TV series as well. I mean, there's nothing particularly WRONG with the Mario and Zelda shows... it's just that they don't do everything RIGHT. I haven't seen F-Zero or Kirby, so I can't pass comment on them.

Allow me to elaborate. Some changes can be justified. I only judge them on the way they portray everything else. So the cartoon shows get everything...

Pokémon: 90% right.
Kirby: 60% right.
Mario: 40% right.
Captain N: 1% right.
Zelda: 0% right. "Well excuse me, princess!"

Allow me to elaborate: judgements on the matter of how closely a TV series ties to the games depends entirely on:
a) subjective opinion, and
b) how immersed you get in the game series in particular.

The Legend of Zelda cartoons may have been perfectly adequate for a casual Zelda gamer, but it's only those who love the games who find the cartoons vulgar and offensive. The Mario cartoons were equally awful, with terrible jokes, awful songs (and singers), bad sound and animation, and yet I enjoy them anyway.

But what was uttered was the word 'canon' which means it could tie in to the storyline of the game series faultlessly. The Zelda and Mario cartoons do not - Kirby probably does to a greater extent (seeing as it's made by HAL Laboratory's Warpstar studio). Pokémon is somewhere between the two. It's not completely oblivious to the games, but it does tend to sidestep the game rules to a ridiculous effect... and none of this "but the game rules would make a boring TV show" rubbish. If Pikachu can't beat a Rhydon, stop farting around and CHANGE YOUR DAMN POKEMON TO SOMETHING WE HAVEN'T SEEN A MILLION TIMES BEFORE! Don't bend the rules so Pikachu gets more airtime.
