I just got home and went straight olnine to see this. And my reaction? What. The. #$%@?! What is the point of this? What the hell? How is this revolutionary? Why does the world hate me?
Nintendo better have something big planned for that port at the bottom, otherwise at the moment its a TV remote with gyro-sensors.
DIU's first impression: me no like.
Second Impression (from different forum): I first looked at this thing 5 minutes ago, and straight away had thought "what the fuck? Its a TV remote. Oh the revolution!", but, as I predicted, I've started to come around. Just looking at a few of the posts here have started to open my mind up to what is possible, but what I really think could be interesting is the little port on the bottom - so far we've seen a analogue stick for it, but that thing has limitless possibilities, whether its the addition of a touch screen or whatever.
As has been said, this looks like the Rev will be without any real multiplatform games, which could be good (better than good) if that means developers work on Rev exclusive versions. Guess I'll be getting an X360 or a PS3 AND the Rev.
Some many conflicting reactions.
-- really, having looked into it a bit more, it could be really great. Lets hope.

Haha, custom control port! I KNEW IT!!! Still... it hardly looks like a Wavebird, like some "reports" claimed. I'll look into it some more and make a news post on the site this evening. EDIT: I guess we WILL be able to download and play Duck Hunt after all

Wow. I'm pretty excited about that. It looks like it'll take a bit to get used to, but after reading the descriptions of the demos it sounds like control will be amazing! I love the sound of the plane-steering thing. Awesome. ;D

More reading done... so I have a question...
How exactly will this be used to play SNES and N64 games?

It seems in order to play the classic games you'll either have to use a GCN controller, or there has to be a retro-controller pug-in on the bottom. Or Nintendo have wirelss SNES and N64 controllers planned, for the low low price of another $49.95 each.
Theres some great possibilities here, and though alot have been mentioned in various articles, one that springs to mind for me is Arcade style sports (Mario sports, basically). For Golf, Tennis, Baseball, etc, you could swing the remote like you are holding those rackets / bats / clubs / whatever.
But I was also thinking how cool a Mario basketball game could be, if you emulated dribbling a ball be holding the remote (/controller - I'm gonna call it a remote) and moving your arm up and down. It doesn't sound right in writing, but grab your TV remote and pretend to dribble a basketball - you'll see what I mean. Shooting would be a matter of making a throwing motion while hold the remote. Fairly simple, but it could attract so many people that don't usually play games.
Other thing I'll expect alot of is First Person games - not just FP Shooters, but also FP Weapon (particularly sword) games. It would make sense.
This could be awesome, and, knowing Nintendo, it will be, at least for a the 1st Party launch titles. Whether it is a success and they stick with it I guess we wont know for a while.
Now show us some games, Nintendo!

Horrah for saving the D-pad! YEAH!!!!!
This is just about what I expect: - Playable through 1 hand or 2 hands (Though there are now already games that can be played with 1 hand like Kirby Air Ride), can be held more than one way (Dr Mario & Panel De Pon is played this way), and unusual (Vertical controller!?!?! )
But I'm also amazed for the return of the NES rectangle shape.
Anyways.... this isn't really finalized, eh?
(Oh please.... I want to see the GAMES!!!!!! Yeah, the hardware is great, but we need to see GAMES!!!! What's a good system without good software installments?)

Iwata also announced there would be more on the wi-fi capabilities come October. Perhaps this will be accompanied by game information. I'm not expecting screens or anything, but even a little more on the games would be welcome.
Especially as these demos look as "gimmicky" as the DS demos. Are we going to be given a launch lineup of very short games that get us used to the controller (ala. DS) or will we be blessed with full games that take advantage of its capabilities (ala. N64)?
They have also said they are trying to get patents on the technology and play methods... so even if Sony did try to steal the ideas they would be stopped at the patent office. Haha, gutted.

......you have known for months it would be a controller unlike any other controller ever made... why on earth were you expecting it to look like the (awkward and ugly) Gamecube controller?

Because different is bad, obviously.

I remember how much people hated the N64 controller... and how quickly they stopped hating it when they got a chance to use it. Mmm... triggeriffic analogue love.
PC developers are loving this one though, aren't they? A virtual "air mouse". I sense FPS love on the way.

I just hope that the development of 'attachments' is done wisely. Two or three unique ones is acceptable. But I don't want to have ten different attachment sitting around, each one compatible with only two or three games.

It could get a bit mad, but I doubt it'll be quite as mental as having four controllers, a GBA-GC link cable, two sets of bongos, a dance mat, a microphone......
