Or it could be worse. They have six different attachments and they all have a wide variety of games to use them with. So then you can't ignore them and are forced to buy them and sell all your wordly possessions until you're a mad hobo wearing a sack on your head.

You know, this morning I wasn't all that excited about this controller... but after thinking about it a bit more today, I realized it's actually pretty cool! I think having two seperate things to hold in each hand is a pretty good idea, and I can already image how fun it would be to play games by moving the controller instead of pressing buttons on it. And hey, this probably isn't even the finished controller yet, so it's gonna be even better! Whee ;D
Yeah, that's my optimistic 2 cents.

Haha, custom control port! I KNEW IT!!! Still... it hardly looks like a Wavebird, like some "reports" claimed. I'll look into it some more and make a news post on the site this evening. EDIT: I guess we WILL be able to download and play Duck Hunt after all Yeah, including Metal Combat, Battle Clash, Yoshi's Safari. They did without the assitance of Gunpei Yokoi, i miss the legend

Actually I don't think the middle part of the Nintendo 64 controller with a D-pad used mixing with a vrtical NES controller is THAT brand new.... Seems that Nintendo is still playing tricks. As for the revolutionary design, I quite doubt if this is the next console for the Family Computer line - maybe that'll make Nintendo a 4th pillar. (I know you may object this idea, but think about it - if this is a GC successor, why is not DS?) It could get a bit mad, but I doubt it'll be quite as mental as having four controllers, a GBA-GC link cable, two sets of bongos, a dance mat, a microphone...... Sorry, you'll need 2 dance mats to play multiplayer DDR, and 4 GC-GBA link cables for..... But I love how we mess around with the GC.

More reading done... so I have a question... How exactly will this be used to play SNES and N64 games? For the SNES you could use the control stick attachment for the D-pad and the L button, and the use the remote's D-pad as the four buttons, and B as R. N64 could be done in the same way, but I'm not sure which button should be R and B. I guess B would be R, and Z2 would be B? I wonder why they go to the trouble to add two buttons just for the NES, but nothing for SNES and N64. Anyway, I really like the controller. I just hope they don't try to fit these gyrosensors and stuff into every game. It will be really cool in a lot of games, but a game like Super Smash Bros. would be better without it.

I just found this: www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=60917Eurogamer: How is the controller going to work with games that aren't designed specifically for the Revolution - multi-platform titles and so on?
Jim Merrick: We're producing a classic-style expansion controller, based on traditional designs like the Gamecube controller. It's like a shell with a hole in the top into which you slot the freehand-style controller, and then you can play third-party ported games, and retro Nintendo games you've downloaded.
So there's that option - but even while it's inserted into the classic-style shell, the freehand controller will still be able to sense positioning and so on, so there are more options too.
It's something that's just as true for the DS - not every game uses the DS's unique features. But some multi-platform titles do, like The Sims 2 for example. We hope other developers will do the same and look at ways their multi-platform titles can make use of the Revolution's features. They could just use that for SNES and N64. If that's what they are planning I don't understand why they don't just use it for the NES, too.

To play classic NES games you just rotate the controller 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Genius.
For great justice!

Be a little more open minded. This really could change the way games are played. Or at least change the way we play the same games as everyone else. But seriously swedishdolphin... if you're that upset about it then don't buy one. If you think it's rubbish, don't buy a Revolution. Go and play with Sony's boomerang instead. Flamedude... do you remember the days when we used to laugh at people who waved their N64 controllers around as if it would have any effect on their gameplay... well, now apparently it will.

It doesn't have an official release date anywhere yet. All we know is it will be available in 2006... and MAY not me available until 2007 in Europe based on an unreliable source. Hopefully I'll have a Rev by Christmas 2006 though

I read a very good point about the Revolution.
If you look at the latest screenshots of the revolution the "REVOLUTION" logo has been replaced by the standard Nintendo logo. Also in the keynote speech that JAP FELLA referred to the new console as "codename Revolution" and not "Revolution" directly.
I personally like the name. But then again I liked Ultra64 and even Project Dolphin.
Take off every zig!
