I don't mind Snake being there, since it seemed more of a joke inclusion than anything else. It seems if Nintendo are including other series' characters, they're going to be doing it sparingly, while poking fun at them. It made me laugh seeing him hiding in the box, anyway. ;D

Good lord... I was nearly crying during that trailer. Beautiful stuff. Snake jumping out of the box with that music playing really gave me the chilly willies.

"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn" as in "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn thats good, I love Solid Snake", "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn thats bad, I hate Solid Snake", "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that means Sonic's a chance, and thats good", "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that means Sonic's a chance, and thats bad", or "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn those idiots on the internet suggesting 3rd party characters were dead right, I owe them some virtual dollars and/or virtual cookies"? Damn as in "I owe all these guys cookies, and that means Sonic's got a chance. Crap." And I agree with the "third party characters are sparse, maybe even gag characters" deal. They're not going to replace the 25 Melee stars with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, Robotnik, Coconuts the Monkey, Scratch, Metool, Protoman, Bass, Cloud, Cactuar, Black Mage, Bonk, NiGHTS, Bug, etc. etc. etc. That's just stupid. They're going to finish off the roster with the characters they want, throw in some fanservice, which will probably be the other 2 or 3 third party chars, and that's it. And they'll be very popular ones at that, not subsidary characters that we've forgotten about or don't add to the "STAR POWAH!" of the game. And if anything or anyone gets in, then Sonic is in there. I don't like it either, but hey: it's fact. Things change, whether we like it or not. If they were to include at least one more, my money's on either a Square, Sega, or Hudson/Konami character. Bonk and Bomberman would be the most likely; it pushes the Virtual Console even further since their TGX games are now available. Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised if they bit the bullet and threw in some really fanboyish FF character. I don't think this because of Oematsu, since he's a freelancer most of the time, but because Square's not that far off anymore. Really... nothing is. And that's a weird feeling, to be honest. "SSB4 has Godzilla! > " "That's right! They start pulling stuff outta movies now! Toho begged and begged and begged Nintendo to put the big G in there! " "Dude, look at him crush Indiana Jones! "

OMG!! This is the news I've been waiting for!
I love Wario. He was always one of my favorite characters. Pit is a nice bit of fan service and means Nintendo hasn't forgotten him. Meta-Knight is awesome too.
Now, about Snake. I don't mind him being in there and I doubt it's going to open the flood gates. We're not going to see Master Chief or Lara Croft. Remember, Snake appeared on Nintendo first.
I wouldn't find a few other third party characters, but ones that are classically Nintendo. Simon Belmont would be the top of my list.
EDIT:
I was looking at the web site and it says Nobuo Uematsu, of Final Fantasy fame, wrote the music from the trailer.

While I'll admit that I wouldn't have put 3rd party characters in personally, now that theres proof they can be in I personally think we'll end up seeing about 5-10 of them on top of, lets say 40 characters. Hopefully more, but I'll be pessimistic.
Third Party Predictions: Sonic (and probably Tails, too) Megaman Pacman Simon Belmont (or whatever other Castlevania guy) Bomberman Final Fantasy dude (I dunno any of them) Bonk (don't know much about him, but if he's the turbografx poster child then he'll probably be in)
And while I'm not as sure, I reckon a Soul Calibur character (not sure who) and possibly even Viewtiful Joe have fairly high chances
That would make about 10, and I don't think that would be quite a nice amount, actually.

Is not Pit the coolest thing EVER?
I got better predictions, for each major developor.
Capcom: Megaman Sega: Sonic Namco: Pacman Square: Cloud (groan) LucasArts: Darth Vader EA: John Madden

Pit IS the coolest thing ever. When I saw that feathered wingspan, I knew we were in for a treat.
Do I expect to see more than a handful of third party characters? No. Do I expect ANY of them to be from non-game series? No. Do I expect they will only be the most popular mascot characters? Yes.
If Konami is getting the love, I'd be surprised if Capcom and Namco were left out (as both have provided a lot more support for Nintendo than Konami). Sega and Hudson also seem likely thanks to the Virtual Console. Any other publishers - including EA and Ubi Soft - would be stretching it a bit...
I expect a selection of about five from the following list, including the confirmed Snake: Solid Snake, Mega Man, Ryu (SFII), Pac-Man, Sonic, Tails, Bonk, Bomberman. (Note than Snake and Bomberman have already appeared in a SSBM "rip-off" in Japan featuring Konami, Hudson, Bandai and Takara characters).
I would like the rest to be filled up with Nintendo, as is customary... and we don't even have a full list of them yet. I expect Pit, Wario and Meta-Knight at least to be open from the start (going by how the SSBM characters were unveiled) which means if most of the SSBM cast returns, we can expect even more secrets further down the line.
I would also like to see Trophy Mode return, this time perhaps with animated characters instead of "plastic" models.
Ooooh, I'm all excited again. I love E3, I love Nintendo and I love Smash Bros. retro sexy goodness!!

Double Post!! www.smashbros.com/jp/Nintendo Japan have put up the official "Dairantou Smash Brothers X" website. EDIT (best not to triple post) The announcement is accompanied with a message about the character roster... it's good stuff for us. In short it says the following points: 1. The character roster has not been finalised. 2. The characters that appeared in SSB and SSBM will not necessarily be in SSBB (so loooong Dr. Mario!!) 3. The characters will be introduced one at a time over the coming months. 4. And most importantly for me... the decision is not based on popularity but on character suitability. WOOT!!

More than one character from each developor would be overkill, as fun as it might be.
So not all the SSB/M characters are returning. That's good news, I'd rather hoped seeing Young Link, Dr. Mario, and Pichu be on their way out.

Well, as I've said several times before, I actually preferred Pichu over Pikachu... and Young Link over Link (the one clone character who actually made sense being there). But Dr. Mario? Pfft. The only good thing about him was that he brought the Fever theme along with him. ;D

In other words, good bye to Dr. Mario and maybe Roy. Falco, Ganondorf, Pichu, and Y. Link were all planned, just not in clone form. Ganondorf will probably get new moves, maybe his Super Special will introduce Ganon (OR Ganon becomes a new character. They're certainly not shy of the whole Street Fighter "we can have multiple copies of one character" complex with Zero Suit samus). Pichu will stay, just because. Falco will stay, because I can sense Fox getting another revamp... Young Link will appear, but altered to be WW Link. I have a sneaking suspicion they're ditching some of the non-clones as well. Game and Watch can be seen as gimmicky, and a lot of people actually want them to ditch Marth for a new FE character. Who knows. No way they're dropping the original 12, though. My money? Doc and Roy are absent. Ganondorf is different. Young Link is different. Pichu and Falco remain, with different Super Specials and possibly more altered attacks. Bowser becomes hidden, and really well at that. Game and Watch is dropped for someone even more popular (ROB?). Everyone else stays. I called four of those five new characters, though I'm not bragging. BUT my safest best for newbies: Diddy Kong, Lucario, Project HAMMER guy, Takamaru, Jill, Krystal, King Dedede. Those, I feel, have the best chances as of right now. I excluded Deoxys because, well.. the vibe of Brawl is more... serious. It's still a goofy game, but the look gives me the sense of a plot, and something much more "extreme" than what we're used to. Melee kept a very cartoony look; this really isn't. Lucario, for some bizarre reason, I'm feeling fits the build better than Deoxys. Oh, and isn't Mewtwo going to look soooooo awesome in this game? ;D 3rd party, like I said before: only really popular characters, and limited to 2 or 3 more after Snake. Most likely, in my mind: Sonic, Bonk, Bomberman, Simon, Mega Man. Namco I can see throwing someone in too, but Pac-Man (who would seem to be the one) is really... cartoonish. They'd either have to mess with his design, or go for someone different. Heihachi? Lloyd? Kalas? (haha. Pit ripoff! ) Well, I guess all will be revealed in another month or so!

Pacman is too cartoony? Apparently you missed Kirby in that trailer.
I like the idea of using ROB instead of G&W. Seriously, who doesn't love old ROB?

So...I guess I'm the only one upset by this news? Nobody cares that Third-party characters will be taking up spots that could be filled with our favorite Nintendo characters? Nobody cares that this has lowered the chances of seeing characters like Hakkun, Mike Jones, and Sky Skipper?
