One thing I find interesting reading these posts people saying that they ONLY want Snake, or ONLY Snake and Sonic for 3rd party characters. Now, is it just me, or would have 39 Nintendo characters and one non-Nintendo character not stick out like a sore thumb?
I could personally see Konami, Sega, Namco, Capcom, Hudson and Square all getting one representitive, and if the rosters is big enough, possibly even 2 each (Lets say theres 60 characters, and 12 were third party, that would still leave Nintendo with 48 spots to fill, which is plenty). I'd say Sonic's inevitable, and as much as you may hate it I really think Pacman's got the next biggest chance - Miyamoto loves Pacman, plus he's already made it into the Nintendo ranks when he appeared in Mario Kart Arcade GP.
As for exisitng characters, I suspect all original (as in non-clone) characters, including Mr G&W to return. Ganondorf will get new moves, as will Young Link (who will become Wind Hero Link). Not sure about the rest - I could se Falco getting swapped for Wolf (so the Starfox franchise has a bad guy), and Roy and Pichu are 50-50. I think Doc will be a costume, since it looks like there may be costumes (they can't not have regular Wario, can they?).
All in all, I can't wait. Come on Tom Nook!
EDIT: Having just watched it again, right at the end, when it shows the split screen of the seven characters when Wario is about to unless his, uh, bowel movement, is just me or is Metaknight hold the sword over where his nose would be? If so, thats a hell of a detail.

4. Halberd - Meta-Knight's ship from Kirby Super Star. I hope the ship does more than just fly around in the background. Reviewing the video a couple of times, it does: At one point the ship stops aimlessly flying around in-back, comes up underneath the stage, and the stage slowly slots / melds into the ship, so that you end up fighting on the ship. |

Let me be clear here... on that page I explicitly state that there are some characters that I believe will be removed (Dr. Mario, Pichu, etc.) and some characters that I believe will be replaced by others in that series (Marth, Ness). Why do I think that? Because Sakurai has said he considered dropping Ness from SSBM and replacing him with the hero from Mother 3 until it was canned. Well... Mother 3 is out now. He has a chance to stick in Flint or something. What about Marth? Well, he MIGHT go... I don't necessarily think he will... but he MIGHT be replaced with one of the more recent Fire Emblem heroes. I don't say I want them removed and the series ignored... I just suspect they might be replaced with newer characters from their respective series. I can't say anything about Fire Emblem, but I doubt that Flint will replace Ness. Mother 3 isn't selling nearly as well as Nintendo had hoped it would in Japan. |

Really? Woah, I find that hard to believe! (not that I don't believe you, but I find that really surprising)
Perhaps NEss could have a Lucas costume. And a Ninten one while their at. That way, its the best of both worlds.

It is hard to believe, seeing as it's been in the top five of the Japan all-format chart since it was released three weeks ago. I'd say that's selling quite well, wouldn't you?
And remember this is a chart dominated by multi-million selling PS2 and DS games right now. It's selling well... especially compared to the first two games.
Sakurai did say he considered dropping Ness for Lucas between SSB and SSBM. Maybe Ness and Flint will appear. Who knows? I'm just saying, if anyone is likely to be swapped out for a more recent character, it's Ness.

When I first saw the Wii's controller, my immediate reaction was, "That's stupid, but if the new Super Smash Brothers game is awesome enough, I'm getting the system." Well, I'm so getting a Wii.
As for third party characters, I have a theory. We'll probaly only see third party characters that have appeared on Nintendo systems. So no Cloud, no the Prince, nothing like that. If Square does get any characters, don't be suprised if it is on of the races from Crystal Chronicles. Of course, I'm hoping that if Square gets a character, they put in the Fighter and the Black Mage from the original Final Fantasy in. For Fighter's super move, he could whip out a pair of sword-chucks and swing them around like crazy, and for Black Mages super, I have one word for you: Hadoken (of course, maybe I need to not read 8-Bit Theater so much)
As for the whole Sonic issue, I say YAY! Sonic is one of the few non-Nintendo franchises I like. But I don't think they'll put Tails in. If they put two Sonic characters in, it's be Sonic and Shadow. I mean, Shadow did get his own game. I can already see his super move being something awesome where he does Chaos Control and is all like "Rawr, I'm evil" and shoots you.
Namco Third party characters, I'm praying for Tales of Symphonia characters. My dream would be to be able to play as Presea, but if they used anyone it would probaly be Lloyd. However, I'd be just as happy if they had Kratos! And Pac-Man would be kind of stupid.
Now on to the Nintendo characters! I have a couple of guesses. Wario was of course a given, but why not go a step further and include Waluigi? And as for a new Pokemon, if anything, I'm betting it will be a Ruby/Saphire generation character. My choice would be Blaziken, but I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't make it. Also, right now Donkey Kong is the only character from his franchise in the SSB games, so Diddy Kong would probaly be likely. A couple other characters that popped in my head are Wolf O'Donnel, Birdo, Shadow Mario, Fawful, Tingle, and one of the transformed Links from Majora's Mask.
And as long as I'm thinking about it, if Square is working on this than that would be so awesome if Geno from Super Mario RPG was a character.

2. Castletop stage - No idea. The red flags have a flashy design on them (not sure if it's a dragon though, guys). Fireballs are being shot from the surrounding forest. Could be Fire Emblem? Could be Twilight Princess? I have no idea. I read on wikipedia that the stage is from Fire Emblem:Path of Radiance. I haven't played PoR, so I'm not sure if it's true. I've had a look, and it's not the Daein flag. It uses the same colours, but the designs are very different. It may well still be a Fire Emblem game, but it's going to take a while before I can find out from where.
I really want to know this now. It's like trying to find out who Ayumi Tachibana was...

I think we should only put Sonic and Snake as 3rd party, and heres why:
1)Sonic is the only character that is widley accepted. Put any other in there and ppl will get annoyed
2) Nintedo has to pay to get these characters in when they could use there own for free.
3)Snake is a favor and Sonic is widley wanted. Its not to likely another will get in.
4) This is still Nintendo's all star fight. 2 characters are ok but lets keep it at that,

Hey, did anyone else catch this little tidbit in the Wikipedia article on Brawl?
Dude, that is so sweet. Nothing personal, but I dislike the Wii-mote. This has sealed the deal for me. I'm getting a Wii, even if all I ever play on it are my Gamecube games and SSBB.

I disliked the N64 controller when I saw it... but it's all a matter of getting used to it once there's some killer software out there. I think SSBB will be the game that entices current gamers to the system who might then be swayed to use the Wii remote. I will embrace it like a son, but I know my opinion isn't held by everyone... yet  |

^ I've heard that about Ness as well, actually. They also considered ditching JPuff, to make an original Pichu supposedly, but they realized even she had her fans. Pichu ended up in the game anyways... as a clone. I'd like to believe, though, that after two games, they'd feel a little guilty replacing Ness  And like I said before: Star Tropics would be the perfect "stfu Japan" because they gave us characters and trophies from games we never got this side of the Pacific (and in some cases, Eurasian continent [lookin out for ya, Fry ]). And, as it's been said, anybody they toss in is free advertising for the Virtual Console. They have good reason to finally release the old FE games over here on the VC, why not Star Tropics over there? EDIT: I replied to Fry's post on the end of the fourth page, and didn't see the fifth. Oops! Anywho, if they pop in more Pokemon, it's going to be, and you can take this to the bank: Deoxys or Lucario, or both, which would rock. Why have one starter, and not the other two? They're a package deal But I think after seeing how popular Mewtwo was, they'll be more apt to throw in his "clones" in the RS and DP games. |
