For those who do not know about what I am talking about, refer to these places: Wikipedia - Vivian (Paper Mario)The Mushroom Kingdom - Mario in Japan - Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year DoorNow, what do you think about it? Is Vivian male or female (In the case of the Japanese version)? Personally I think she's still female in the Japanese version... but it is IntSys's style to make such confusion. This doesn't seem much when compared to the complex sexual relation of characters in Fire Emblem 4 (Seisen). Anyway, what's your opinion? Is Vivian female? Male? Genderless? Or maybe you can create a 3rd gender for her.... I don't know.

Intriguing. I had no idea that Vivian was supposed to be a male - although she is quite clearly dressed as a female. So yes, I would say Vivian is male, a transvestite if you will. And after reading that Wikipedia article, I can assume the writer has never met a transvestite. Yes, they're male, but you can still refer to them as female. In fact, I would say it is encouraged. But Nintendo of America's buckled down conservative family values don't stand for that kind of fruity liberal nonsense. Reggie'll be kicking some ass and taking some names if someone in Japan isn't careful

A transvestite? Ooohhhh....
Well, whether she stated that she likes Mario or not, I don't know (I don't have the game. I do want it, but I can't buy anything that are sold out.). If she does, actually, I DO want to see her tell Mario that. It would be funny, especially that Goombella told him already that Vivian is male (if Goombella did tattle her).

I'd just go with "genderless".

Yeah shes a he in Japan, b ut regardless of what Japan thinks I thyink she fits better as a chick. She is suppose to be a cute little girl and being a transvestite muck up her character.

Only because you're a raving homophobe!! ;D
Gives her more character if you ask me... a LOT more... especially in the TROUSERS!! If you get what I mean! I mean her penis.
Which is worse... the fact Vivian is a confused male who has joined a coven of witches, or that Yoshi and Birdo (a known transvestite) seem to have a thing going?
But then what kind of dinosaur would let a moustachioed Italian man ride around on his back all day? I think we both know the answer to that.
A LUCKY DINOSAUR!!

Yeah, Vivian is male. I read about this awhile ago. So yes, I would say Vivian is male, a transvestite if you will. And after reading that Wikipedia article, I can assume the writer has never met a transvestite. Yes, they're male, but you can still refer to them as female. In fact, I would say it is encouraged. From what I understand Transvestism is just the act of regularly wearing clothes normally worn by those of the opposite gender. And do not necessarily identify themselves with the opposite gender. Transsexualism is believing that your "Gender Identity" is different from your physical gender. And neither of which mean you are necessarily a homosexual. So, what I'm trying to say is it might be correct to call Vivian a male even though he is a transvestite.

Personally, I'd rather continue to believe she's female. IntSys is known for stuff like these, but I don't think they'd go this far. Especially that the game somehow shows that she (he?) likes Mario quite a lot.

Damn it! I kinda liked her! Actually, I think IntSys intentionally gave her such settings, knowing that she'd have a lot of fans.

TtF, you are, of course, correct. But because it's all about lifestyle choices and a (confusing) contextual lexicon, it's hard to say one way or the other. But transexual would probably be more likely.
YL... "Settings"? You make it sound like transexualism and transvestism are some kind of statistic. Haha, you could adorn the Birdo armour and achieve +5 Transexual!
But yes, IntSys do like to mix it up a bit. Especially in Fire Emblem. Whooee! Them's some messed up chess pieces!

ummm...YL, this is kinda embarrassing, but I meant "liked her" not in the "fan" way...
Tell me I'm not the only one who dreams whistfully about certain female game characters (oh, and with Vivian, it was all about the curves)
I see you baby, shaking that ass...

Vivian is a chick as far as the English version is concerned and that's how my site has maintained it. But I've known about this back when the game was new and this sort of hubbub was a big deal.
