So, shiny new Zelda game, and of course it's filled with good stuff. Unfortunately, spoilers are a nightmare, so post any storyline theories, or other interesting bits in here.
I shall start.
Is it my imagination or is Odona Village built over the old Kokiri Forest? The maps look very similar, and Link seems to be living in the carcass of the old Deku Tree.
I'm guessing they found a way to drain the oceans between TWW and TP for OoT's landmarks to still be about.

I think TP is supposed to be between OoT and TWW, isn't it? (Haha, supposed to be)
It has more references to OoT and I've seen none for TWW.

They did say quite some time ago that it was set in between OOT and TWW... I think it was around this time last year though, so they might've changed it since.

Really? I was under the impression it was set after TWW, but that was from much earlier interviews. It would make more sense your way..
But at the same time, the world has changed so much that it would also make sense if the world had been flooded and then unflooded, leading to the new-look world we see here.
But maybe not.

Consistent geography has never been Zelda's strong suit and is a moot point. It's all explained quite handily by the TToTT anyways.

I'll make up my mind where I think it's set once I've played the game. Though god knows when I'll be able to get a Wii. ...I really should be avoiding spoiler topics, but... I just can't.

I think it is between OoT and WW. The landscapoe is the same as OoT(just mirrored for the Wii version), plus, Hyrule is suppose to be gone at the end of WW.

As has been previously confirmed, Twilight Princess takes place about 100 years after the events of Ocarina of Time, and several centuries before Wind Waker. This means that the Hero of Twilight (for lack of better way to identify between Links) is the one that failed to return to Hyrule upon Ganondorf's return from...wherever he goes after this game.
I have to say, I've beaten the game and I'm thoroughly impressed with just about everything they threw at us. From the updated versions of old weapons to the broken traditions (no magic to speak of whatsoever, not even magic Arrows) and the sweet armor Link acquires, every turn is just a thrill ride. I've still got to go through and get about fifteen Pieces of Heart before I've completed the game entirely. And who else thinks the new claymoore-weilding-Redeads are completely badass? (And who loves the frontier justice in transforming into a wolf and doing that gnarly bite attack on them? Fucking right, take that for gnawing on my head in the OoT and WW generations.)
Now onto more spoiler-ish things (if you haven't beaten the game, you may want to avert your eyes...).
First of all, they brought back Ganondorf's theme from OoT and Wind Waker, which makes me a very happy hippie. Now that it's a cemented recurring theme to the LoZ series, I hope they integrate it somehow into SSBB (but I'm a sucker for villain themes, like King Dedede's and Star Wolf's). I loved how Ganondorf just kept throwing forms at you--and how they brought Ganon back for one of them, which was remarkably the hardest of all four he had. Just...awesome. The entire set of fights there won so hardcore.

I completed it yesterday evening, so I am now in a good position to spoiler away!
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't TWW originally said to happen 100 years after OoT as well? Is this some kind of "every 100 years a king is born to the Gerudo tribe" thing? Does that mean every Ganondorf is now different as well?
That would make sense, but at the same time it would take more than 100 years for the entire world to degrade and change so drastically. I'm starting to wonder if every time they say "years" they mean "generations".
So, with Ganondorf dead, where does that leave the story now? Is he revived for Wind Waker? Is it a new Ganondorf? How come they all have the Triforce?
After Ganon stole the Triforce in OoT, did the Triforce segments pass down through the generations until the end of TWW where Ganondorf finally reunites it? If so, why is one of them in pieces at the bottom of the ocean?
It's a puzzle, no doubt. Especially as certain areas seemed to have something in common with LttP - which suggests the world IS unflooded again at the end of TWW. Maybe Phantom Hourglass will explain it for us.
PS. Ooccoos are brilliant.

I'm far from finishing it (just done the bug-hunting in dark Kakariko), but this game has definately won my heart ;D
Midna would definitely make a great Smash Bros Brawler, I just love her attitude, and her freaky hat-hand.
P.S. The reason I'm taking so long? My two sisters are hogging some game time, plus my next day off work is Thursday. Damn job!

First of all, they brought back Ganondorf's theme from OoT and Wind Waker And ALttP! Don't forget that one! Fry, I believe the creators said at one point that TWW takes place a decade after OoT. A decade. So when they're actually putting a time span between the games, I tend to ignore it now. There's no way people would've forgotten about a kingdom under the sea in ten years.

Nah, that doesn't sound right at all... sounds like someone made an obvious error there. Unless... 10 generations?
Especially if TP is supposed to happen in the middle and 100 years after OoT.

I've heard that the interview was misstranslated. They actually said hundreds.
TP seems to point toward a split-timeline. OoT Adult leads to TWW, and OoT Child leads to TP. They seemed to fix a lot of things that were different between OoT and ALttP(Master Sword in the Lost Woods, Sages don't look like they are from several different races).

I've read the split timeline theory, and in one regards it looks good... but in another way I don't like it because it's lazy. But at the end of Ocarina, Hyrule Castle would have had to be rebuilt anyway - so they built in the centre of Hyrule Field, which is where it is in LttP. Presumably on top of Lon Lon Ranch. Are the Twili supposed to be the Gerudo tribe? They talk of being descendents of a banished race whose King was lost to great greed. Gerudo are absent from later games (time line wise) which means they could have become the Twili and been sealed away as punishment. I've gone back and started exploring. Finally met that weirdo bug princess Agitha, and I've been hunting Jovani's Poe Souls enough to free him from spell 1 - but he's still gold. I'm gonna be working on this game for a while yet

I don't know if the Twili are supposed to be the Gerudo, but I would suspect if that was the case that their male-to-female population wouldn't have changed if that case. And... well I guess the only Twili we really see are Midna and Zant. But Zant was clearly regarded as a servant and not a 'Gerudo-esque king' or anyone remotely important. Besides, in OoT the Gerudos were hardly even interested in Ganondorf's work. I almost think that the group that became the Twili might even predate Ganondorf's attempts at the Triforce. Some group of bandits or something. Heck, this might even lend credence to my ancient Multiple Ganon Theory.
