I've never been a big fan of the split-timeline theory either. If you're going to split the timeline in two, what's stopping you from having five? Plus time didn't seem to work in a way that could cause a split in OoT. (Song of Storms, and the Kakariko Well) But TP doesn't lead into TWW very well. Although it fixed some OoT-ALttP problems, it also created a bunch more also. I wonder how many OoT sequels Nintendo plans on making? We've got four already. I hope they move onto something else. (Like AoL)
It seems to me the Twili were the first to go after the Triforce, and were probably the reason the Temple of Time and Master Sword were created to protect it. I'm not sure why the Goddesses protect to the Triforce and Hyrule some times, but not others. (Flip a coin. Heads we save the Triforce/Hyrule, Tails we wait for a hero in green.)
Hasn't FSA pretty much confirmed there is more than one Ganon?

I'm not sure what to do with the FSA timeline. It could safely be called a non-canonical spinoff until Minish Cap came along and started tying it all together with the main series storyline.
The biggest tie between OoT and TWW in TP is Ganondorf - who has been designed in TP as a halfway house between the two. But then the problem of Ganondorf's quite obvious death arises.
Is he revived? We know he can be (Zelda II).
But the issue of Twili origins needs to be resolved. It might not even be the Gerudo race, but Ganondorf's band of thieves, which most likely consisted of Gerudo and Hylians.
On other subjects:
Did anyone else notice the Zora masks that looked more fishy... like the original Zoras?
During the Yeti mansion dungeon... did anyone get a dreadful sense of foreboding, like you did in Blind's Dungeon in LttP, when the kindly female yeti offered to show you to her prize?
This game easily has some of the best weapons in the Zelda series. When I got the Ball & Chain I was delighted - FINALLY a new, cool weapon that saves me on bombing. And then before the game was over it was topped again by the double Hookshot (Clawshot now, apparently).

OK, remember in OOT Ganon was banished, but then in TWW he rises and everyone panics, then the King blows up Hyrule?
Of course, in TP, he tricked Zant by pretending to be a god so he can go back to the Light World.
When Zant kills himself, I think then Ganondorf goes back to the Dark World so he can rise a SECOND TIME for TWW.
But then, that whole thing about the "prosperous Hyrule" is ruined now, right? Oh, maybe the storyline's cracked for good.

I picked up my copy of TP for Gamecube just now, so I'll be able to join in the spoilers by tonight. ;D

I think the "Legend" in Legend of Zelda really plays a greater hand than any of us are giving credit. A lot can happen over even a short period of time, so that Hyrule changes so radically in the timespan of centuries is hardly a shock. Especially considering how some tales have been manipulated or forgotten, because they're legends and, so far as anyone knows, not true.
And remember what Midna told Link early on in the game? He's doomed to languish in obscurity, which can be said for basically every Link in every existence. Nobody knows him personally outside a select few people who are directly involved in whatever evil happens to be threatening the nearby area, but he still gets immortalized in aforementioned legends. So the alternate timelines theory doesn't work out when you think of it like that, because the Hyrulians' own forgetfulness fills the gaps.

I think Aonuma said that there were two timelines... and that TWW took place after the adult timeline and TP took place after the child timeline. Of course, typically, I can't find the interview now. I'll have another look later.
I had thought the music in this game was fairly bland compared to OOT, MM and TWW. But now I'm fighting Zant, and this boss music has redeemed the entire soundtrack and then some. ;D
It was best when it was in the baboon mini-boss room.

Here's a spanner in the works. It's not Twilight Princess, but it is Zelda storyline related, and I'd like to see it compared to the Japanese translation for consistency.
The Zelda II manual says the good king who ruled Hyrule with the Triforce was the one who placed the spell on Hyrule, making the Triforce mark appear on the hands of those destined to carry it. But that means the origin of the "Legend of Zelda" (the legend, not the series) actually preceded Ocarina of Time. It also means the Triforce was in Hyrule before it was sealed in the Golden Land, or at least was USED in Hyrule.
I'm sure this kicks up other problems, though bugger me if I can think of them right now.

Well, the Triforce mark didn't appear on OoT Link's hand until he actually had it. All other Links were supposedly born with the mark (except TWW Link).
Though I'd assumed the AoL backstory came before OoT already, mainly because it's when it was decided that all the princesses should be called "Zelda". I'm not sure if it creates a problem or not, but I don't remember OoT ever specifically stating that the Triforce had never been in Hyrule before.

Potentially it also opens up the possibility that the King of Red Lions (Johanns Daphnes whatever) is the king who died in the Zelda II backstory and left the Triforce behind. People have expressed similarities, after all.
But that means the original sleeping Zelda is somewhere in Hyrule for all that time, through all those games, including when the world is flooded.
Edit The original Link didn't get the mark until his 16th birthday, and it's not really mentioned for LttP-LA Link. So "all other Links" is a bit misleading.

Ah, I'd forgotten about the 16th birthday bit. And about ALttP-LA Link. It's easier to remember it not being there when we actually see it appear. The Link in the Oracles games had the Triforce mark didn't he? I don't remember the FS or MC Links having them, either... Anyway... it seems possible that the sleeping Zelda is down there when it's all flooded... It seems to me that it must've already happened, otherwise there's not much sense in Tetra's name suddenly becoming Zelda when it's discovered that she's the princess.

Yes, the Link in the Oracle games had it all along. It wasn't shown in MC+4S (which are actually two separate Links - even before they split into more), and I don't think the artwork shows any mark. But then MC+4S Link didn't need it, because their beef was mainly with Vaati.
But yes, it would also explain Tetra's sudden name change. Although... one thing that has bothered me... did Tetra actually KNOW she was the princess all along? I couldn't tell from the in-game text.

Tetra seemed rather surprised about it, but had a "somehow I always knew" moment.

She obviously knew a lot about Hyrule, but it didn't seem like she knew she had any connection to the royal family. She had to be told, after all. I'm pretty sure her mother knew, though. I completed TP earlier this evening, just before leaving for work. It didn't seem that Ganondorf was definately killed to me. At least, no more than he seemed to have been killed just before the castle started to collapse in OoT. Though, to be fair, I was fairly distracted, and I didn't quite understand what Zant was doing there. I'll watch again later... I loved the fact that, throughout the whole game, I had thought Zant was a scary, dark and mysterious evil guy, and then, when it came to fighting him, he was really just a comedic sub-villain with awesome music and a squeaky voice. ;D Oh, and Fry, I wasn't saying FS and MC were the same Link. I know that's not possible.

I completed Twilight Princess the other day and I absolutely loved the game. I don't know which Zelda is my favourite, but it definitely ranks up there with the best of them.
I've been giving some thought to the timeline too, recently. I've come to the conclusion that there really isn't one. I guess even Miyamoto and Aonuma don't have all the answers. In my perception there is only one story, or rather Legend. It's just the same story, retold by different people. It's the same story every time (Hyrule under attack by Ganon/Ganondorf, Zelda is kidnapped, Link comes to the rescue), but like all legends, the people that tell the story tell it in a different way.
I think it is best to forget the whole timeline-business and just play every game as if they are unconnected.
