In the case of your idea, I'd rather take a new Pilotwings.

That whole unlimited flight thing pulls it back to the whole Dead Phoenix thing too. It would be cool, and I'd love to play a game like that. But could that be the whole game? I don't know. It might get dry, and pull too much away from the dungeon exploration aspects of the NES/GB games. But definitely something where you can fly freely around an environment to explore would be unique as far as being compared to other Nintendo titles...other than Pilotwings

Jeez, do I need to design the entire game just to explain it? It's like saying "Sure, being able to run Mario around in a 3D environment sounds okay, but would that be the whole game?" I'll try to explain it better... It would be an adventure game, but rather than just horizontal control over the character with jumps, you would have complete vertical control as well.

Pesonally, I wouldn't mind a rehash of SM64, albeit set in a greek-ish environment. But that's probably because I've never played the original (though when I get a Wii, I hope to change this).

I'd like to see a weather system that actually affects play and environment. I can see that working out really well with Kid Icarus; if it's a rainy, windy day, it's hard to fly/use your wings somehow or use fire-based weaponry (assuming he has any, I don't know). When it's really sunny and hot out, you can't fly too high cuz your wings melt (A-HUH, copying off a fairy tale!) and it takes a long time to regrow them. If it's snowing, your traction is off and your movement really slows down--and his stamina starts to drop because Pit wears open-toed shoes like a doofus. Frostbite FTW!
Unlimited flying may be nice, but I only see it being granted far down the road--like one of the last powerups you receive.

Pit's wings aren't made of wax, though.
That, and I'd like a weather system seems more like something that could be applied to any outdoorsy franchise, most notably DKC. Remember Ropey Rampage?

I am digging the weather idea. If any game can try to run with the idea, it'd be Kid Icarus.
I've pondered the thought of a new KI before. God of War certainly helped raise some ideas, but the game can't be as damned serious as Kratos' quest is. The idea of using the Wiimote to control Pit's flight is cool, and adding in his new close range abilities from Brawl sounds solid, too. It'd have to be cautious not to feel like a Greek Zelda, though. When I get some more time to bridge my thoughts I'll add them here.

Unlimited flying may be nice, but I only see it being granted far down the road--like one of the last powerups you receive. I did think at first that it might make the game too easy. But then I thought, if it's part of the game's main control scheme from the beginning, they'd have to design the gameplay around it. They'd have to come up with obstacles that make the game challenging despite Pit being able to fly all the time. I'm sure Nintendo could come up with some interesting stuff.

Pit has fire arrows--they give his arrows a bigger hitbox. That's... about it ;p
My idea, I guess if I should say it, was to make the game akin a Mystical Ninja game with a dash of other action platformers. Pit would be able to freely run around 2D environments, and switch between his bow (which fires like it does KI for NES--single shots that go straight forwards) or his blades (which would be most similar to maybe fighting with Kirby's Fighter ability in Superstar maybe? you have different skills you can use...). As he runs around these massive levels, you are treated to a fairly epic story about Pit getting back into Angel Land (after having fallen to Earth at the end of KI: OMM), and learn a wealth of new abilities and magic (because, frankly, it fits the series) from the gods.
Now, Kid Icarus IS meant to be a bit kooky. So it wouldn't go ultra serious or anything. I picture it being about the same seriousness as your typical young adult manga or something, like a Ranma 1/2, where there are very cartoonish characters and events in a pretty inane world, but there are serious villains and serious problems that come along. You would still run into Reapers and Flecks and Shemums, and you still have to do trials from Zeus to upgrade your bow, and there's still money and credit cards and black marketeers. But it all has a nice shiny new coat, and a fancy upgrade to the battle system.
It would have multiple endings as well, and maybe some more bearing in actual Greek myth because, well, it would give Nintendo major props if they could pull all that together for the fanbase. And how about 3D villages? It's a deviation, I know, but it would add more character to the hero and the series, don't you think? Pit needs to be fleshed out just like Link was. That's one of the ways to do it.

I say nay to multiple endings. I've never really been a fan of those because as a storywriter I like one clear, concise ending that ties together all that happened previously--paradoxes and lapses in continuity, whether intentional or not, make my head hurt.
Especially when the "bad" ending is the "default" ending, and the "best" ending is nearly impossible to get...I don't remember where that happened before, but I remember really being frustrated with it at the time.

I agree entirely. Multiple endings sound nice, and give you something extra to work for, but a lot of games that use them neglect to let us know which is the one they're going with. StarFox Command is the worst.

And that was just half of the calaamity

OBJECTION!I don't dig the multiple endings idea too much either. I still need some more time to mull over some more ideas on this one...it sounds like fun. ^_^
