Yes, those GBA/DS Kid Icarus mockups were awesome. Fun fact: the guy who made those also worked on the graphics for Contra 4.

It is worth noting that IGN's Cassamini has mentioned Nintendo has been working on Kid Icarus for awhile. (Which seems a cruel prank to play, but hey). Factor 5 has made some good games, but I'd rather them tackle something more up their alley - like Star Fox, rather than say Kid Icarus.
Even so, if this is real... I'm thinking this is some really, really early conceptual art. Sakurai's Pit is pretty iconic now. They'd be silly not to cash in on that.

And online petitions don't exactly work... as can be seen with Mother 3.

And online petitions don't exactly work... as can be seen with Mother 3. That's no excuse to not sign the petition. Online petitions do work if a substantial number of people sign them. Nintendo won't waste their money producing a game in a style that everyone seems to hate (yeah, I know, Wind Waker....but that was different). And besides, Mother 3 will eventually be released outside of Japan. It's only a matter of time, and, if Earthbound is indeed coming to to the Virtual Console then that time is coming soon.

^ Mother 3 will never never be released ouside of Japan. Hope does not provide a sturdy enough foundation for truth.

No it won't... Mother 3 was made for the Game Boy Advance, A DEAD HANDHELD! For Mother 3 to come here, it would have to be ported to another system first, and Nintendo is only just testing the ground with EarthBound on the VC. Look at Fire Emblem DS for an example. It is a port of the first game, which starred Marth. Fire Emblem has proven itself worth remaking games in the series and making them available to the US. If EarthBound sells well on the VC, then Mother will appear on the VC as an import under the name EarthBound Zero... If that sells well, then and only then will there be a chance for Mother 3 to be remade as EarthBound 2 and brought to the US.

Online petitions do work if a substantial number of people sign them. 31,338 signatures, 1,200 of which were hand written is a significant amount of signatures, and I mean Look At These Things! You can't ignore 9 lbs. of paper staring you in the face saying "PEOPLE WANT THIS" Your petition which I will watch but not likely sign. Seems, unprofessional at best, the best you can hope for is that someone at Nintendo wipes chilidog sauce off their slacks with it I'm afraid. NoA does not care about petitions alone.

Miyamoto has commented on the (Mother 3) petition, so it's not all worthless. But then again that was 816 (I think) pages long and double sided. What you have to know about petitions is that it doesn't solve the problem most of the time but they are worth a try.

This is how I see things...
The concept art shown in this thread is not official. They have not officially announced a new Kid Icarus, as much as IGN would like to think so. Miyamoto was more than likely joking when he said he'd bring the Eggplant Wizard back in the interview that IGN is quoting as their proof.
In short, I'll buy it when I see more evidence. If this is real (I REALLY doubt it), then this is not how it should be done, that much is certain. I won't purchase it. I hated the direction PoP went after Sands of Time, and this is treading the same water.

But it involved an 820 pages of signitures and fan art as well as telephone letter and e-mail bombing. So by itself Ninty isn't going to pay that much attention.
