Everyone generation of Pokemon has a third game with added features.
Red & Green/Blue had Yellow Gold & Silver had Crystal Ruby & Sapphire had Emerald Firered and Leafgreen is an exception, but those were remakes...
ANYWAYS, Diamond and Pearl are the most recent Pokemon games and that means that a third one will come out soon. What could they add though? What would it be called? I made this thread to hear your opinions and assumptions.
I believe it might be called "Opal" or something. I don't know what else they could add as I have never played any of the third Pokemon games (Except for Yellow). But, I do think both Dialga and Palkia will be able to be caught and, I dunno, Giratina will be on the cover.

Personally I thought they should've made WaterBlue and LightningYellow to go with FR and LG. Now I think they should make a GlitteringGold and ShiningSilver for the DS.

I'd like to see them go back to the Gold and Silver mechanics (no natures or abilities, moves such as crunch and thunderpunch falling under the pokemon's special stat, none of that EV training stuff, etc). A return to simplicity, if you will. But it'll never happen, so....

It's believed (safely, in the opinion of many) that the name of a third counterpart for Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version will be Pokémon Opal Version. - Giratina was known, ever since the game was hacked, to be the Rayquaza of the fourth generation, since it has the same combined stats of Dialga and Palkia and it learns similar or complementary moves at the same levels as they do.
- Assuming that Giratina would be the mascot, Opal was a candidate name, since girasol is a kind of opal gem.
- This year, it was discovered that www.pokemonopal.com is a domain name reserved by Nintendo; it redirects you to a page at Nintendo.com
Since Giratina is not part of the Sinnoh dex, people argue that Giratina won't be like Rayquaza in that it will be come the center of the plot. But the Pokédex is a feature that is particular of each game and not necessarily a trio of games. Maybe catching Giratina will be the ultimate goal of Team Galactic in order to take control of every dimension or something like that. As for a remake of Gold and Silver, there are many references to Johto locations and people in Diamond and Pearl, which makes many believe that they will exist. There are a few things that make them unnecessary, though.

Jasmine appears in Sunnyshore and a few people mention Johto. But Johto was mentioned in brief with Ruby/Sapphire--the Ocean Museum has "Johto Sea Water." Ruby/Sapphire really messed up the Pokemon franchise hardcore, only because Nintendo changed too much to let you trade up to the new generation. Because of that fact, they now had to explain away in-game why Johto/Kanto Pokemon weren't available and then re-released Red/Blue and create Emerald/XD/Coloseum features that give you Johto monsters, essentially retconning GSC out of existence.
Luckily, D/P fixed all that. And Ruby/Sapphire goes back to being a bad dream. A very, very bad dream... I hated that generation. It was like a step backwards, despite some of the cool monsters and the addition of natures and abilities. Oh, and Dive. That was badass.

@johans: That seems enough proof that it will be called Opal. Since Giratina is supposed to symbolize death, I think Team Galactic might use him to destroy the universe and re-do it using both Dialga and Palkia. Or something like that.
Also, Giratina's in the next movie...right?
@flip: Yeah, I also hated Ruby/Sapphire. It didn't have any references to any classic Pokemon games, and here is a conversation I had with a kid, that makes me hate R/S (and kids) even more. Me: Hey, you playing Pokemon? On the GBA too! Wow, I remember playing the Red version. kid: Hmm? You mean "Ruby" version, 'cause that's what this is. me: No, I mean red R-E-D! RED! kid: Do you mean Firered? me: NO RED! THERE WAS ALSO BLUE AND YELLOW! kid: No, it's Ruby and Sapphire. Also, what do you mean "Yellow"?
Ugh.

XD If Gold and Silver were retconned, it'd never be mentioned. But it is, so... it's not. It baffles me that people think GameFreak's reprogramming the Pokémon with a far superior system allowing for more individuality (even before considering natures) is a step backwards.

I feel like I'm the only one here who didn't care much for Gen2. XD I was a huge fan for Gen3 though; it got me back into the franchise and I didn't have to worry about spillover from the past games. Never really understood the animosity towards Gen3.
Anyway, Johans has a lot of interesting points, but a bunch of different Pokemon-related domain names have also been bought out by Nintendo--not just opal. I believe amethyst and topaz have been taken as well, so that doesn't really lend itself to either side of the argument.

Never really understood the animosity towards Gen3. Wow, you didn't like gen2? It was the longest one, sixteen badges! I felt that Ruby/Sapphire was too short. Anyways, I hope the third version of Pokemon DP is longer. Maybe they have those other domains to throw you off?

Yeah, I'm seriously considering selling Pokemon Ruby. Anyone up for a cheap GBA game?
There should be a new starter 'mon.
