It's like Phoenix Wright has invaded this thread or something. *waits for objection to slap me in the face* In actual Brawl discussion, I'm working on a list of some other likely 3rd party characters, which is pretty fun. I'm also planning on a Nintendo list for new characters, but I haven't plotted that quite yet. I'll post a link when I get it complete. FALCON KICK!

You gonna listen to me this time? (edgey) for Edgeworth. (karma) for...the olda dood. (tunes) for BG music. You need the parenthises for it to work, and the all-lowercase is intentional.

Looks good, but you are missing a few very likely third party characters (Bomberman and Pacman).

Actually, I had Bomberman and Pac Man on there (as well as Viewtiful Joe), but I didn't feel like writing about them at the time. Pac Man has a good chance (thanks to Namco and Nintendo's strong relationship as of late, his appearance in Mario Kart Arcade GP and Miyamoto's Pac Man Vs. for the Cube), but his movelist doesn't really sound all that exciting to figure out (although his Smash Icon move could be gulping a Power Pellet and eating the other characters and leaving only their eyes). Bomberman is also a good choice in terms of his relationship to Nintendo (Wario Blast, two N64 titles published by Nintendo, Hudson making Mario Party), but his movelist would revolve around bombs and not much else. Drop one, throw one, kick one, charge up one, etc. The Charaboms (sp) could change things up, but ultimately I think he'd be a bit boring compared to the more diversified Nintendo cast. VJ would be a fun fit, but compared to these other characters I mentioned either on my page or above, he doesn't have much of a chance (4 games on Nintendo platforms, but only one is an exclusive. VJ had a few months of exclusitivity, but the PS2 got an enhanced port. Same with VJ:RHR; the PSP got more stuff).
As for Dragon Quest, the odds of a character from there making the cut is getting higher all the time. The new Itadaki Street DS game, DQ: Rocket Slime got some excellent reviews, another DS adventure is on the way in the form of DQ Monsters: Joker, the Wii is getting a Dragon Quest title (as well as rumors hinting that DQ IX will be a Wii title), not to mention that DQ I - VI were all on Nintendo systems (not counting the spin-offs) give the Dragon Quest cast a solid chance as well, with Slime probably be the highest possibility.
Edit - I added my comments here to the page about Pac Man, Bomberman and Viewtiful Joe, which should be up in a few minutes. If anyone else has a character to shout out, let me know and I'll try to do a write-up on it.

Good stuff. If I was putting money on it I'd go with Sonic, Megaman and Pacman, but thats just me.
Oh, and someone from Castlevania - eg. Simon Belmont or maybe Soma Cruz (he's been on Nintendo systems only, right?) should be on the list.
Also, changing the topic (or what used to be the topic), now that we know Lucario isn't legendary, what do we think of his chances of making the roster? Down? Up? No change? Also, any new Pokes you think could make a good addition to the roster?
Personally I think one of the evolutions of an older Pokemon could work great. Lets say Elekible went in (though I don't think I want another electric type) - people familar with DP would know who he is and love him, but people who haven't played DP, but did play the older games, might see him and go "huh? Electabuzz has an evolution? Wow, thats cool, etc, etc" and it could draw people back into the series.
Of course if that did happen I'd like to see Beroberuto (Licki's evo) get in, because I'm biased.

I wouldn't shed a tear if we were left with only Pikachu and Jigglypuff. Frankly, we should have more Pokemon in the Poke Balls. ;D

Bah, I say to you - Pokemon should have the second highest amount of characters (behind Mario, and possibly equal with Zelda). Firstly, they're easy to give movesets too, secondly, theres alot of visual variety there, and, thirdly, they're awesome.

I think Lucario's chances went down, but not so down. He's still the star of a recent movie, is suitable to fight, and has cool moves in the game.
Blaziken's chances are going to be down because of the fire ape (plus we have never had starters as playable), and Gardevoir's are going to be down because of Kirlia's male evolved form.
They should make funnier Poké Ball Pokémon. Like an Abra teleporting your opponents to a random place. Or a Xatu using Future Sight, a move which would make an energy beam appear from one side of the stage half a minute later (it would be a suprising attack since the players will have forgotten about it 30 seconds later).
I think with this huge amount of Pokémon (nearly 500 now), they could as well make more stages with actual Pokémon cameos, probably in plot-related places from the games.
About third parties, I really wish Pac-Man appeared there. It's not because I'm a fan of the pizza shaped guy; I'm not. It just would be beautiful to have him in the game as a tribute to the father of video game characters. Sadly, there's not many slots for additional third parties.
