I would kind of like to see another Warioware character, or a course for that matter. I may havce aalreaduy seggested this, but I'd like to see a changing course or obne where something happens every 5 seconds. Something along those lines. I'd love to see microgames being played in a giant screen. Imagine an Easter Egg consisting in making them playable by somebody who has lost all his/her stocks in Stock Matches . No one is saying they should remove all the Pokemon and add only human characters. We're just wanting one human character. One that was the star of the first games, and has had characters based on him as the star of the anime and manga. Red / Non-Ketchum Ash is important from a Nintendo historian perspective or the perspective of a game fiction archive like NinDB, but I'm not sure if their intention is to favor the RPG plot that much... What I do want is that they give a more plot-related shade to stage backgrounds, like a battle between Groudon and Kyogre, or a Pokémon Double Battle on the crater of Mt. Battle. Nobody said trainers can't happen; it's just that all we've seen for now is Pikachu. And several mighty (not as in "powerful", but as in "able") species are waiting there to be shown if Nintendo keeps that format. Not the 493 of them; just around 10 or 15 flagship Pokémon (probably associatable with individuals like Red's Pokémon or animé's Mewtwo) one could make a safe bet by mentioning them. It's just that something like the Pokémon battle system and types, or the very existence of that Pokémon biodiversity, may be too much to prefer a human IMO. But who knows, Nintendo has broken traditions regarding SSB and I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I want this beloved game/"more-than-game" series to be shown in SSBB with the best originality and concept mapping possible -the mapping from the main RPGs to Mystery Dungeon was only inspiring!-. Deoxys can help accomplish this IMO, but knowing Nintendo, they'll probably favor stuff from the most recent animé movies or plots of that time. Or all-time icons like Meowth and Plusle & Minun.

The problem with using a Pokemon trainer as opposed to a Pokemon itself is that you're inserting a character whose offensive moves would only be based on Pokemon--you can't call something like the PokeFlute or Item Finder attack mvoes, because they aren't used offensively. Granted, some suspention of disbelief is required when translating from a franchise's base games to SSBB (Jigglypuff's Rest is a perfect example, where it acts completely different in each), but there comes a point where you're relying too much on changing the means to fit the end. Using Red in the game would be similar to using a Mii--what would they do that other characters don't do already?

Pokemon are better representers. There popular and have a large base for moves. It also be hard to do a trainer and have then be balanced.

My previous post didn't say they had to be used offensively. Pokeballs and PokeFlute would be defensive, Bike would be a third jump, and the Item Finder would find items that could be used in various ways. I could make the same argument about Luigi. Heck, I could bring up the six clones in Melee. Red has a lot of things that other characters don't have. He can summon monsters. How is that not unique? I don't think there are any other characters in SSB that can do that. Why?

Generic creature of which millions exist vs. named character with the ability to summon powerful creatures and who could be considered the star of the series. None of the trainers can really be called the star of the series, since you play a different trainer in every game. In fact, I think the only character that appears consistantly in all games throughout the series is Pikachu.

Johan's Nidorino's picture inadvertedly brings up a good point - Ludicolo would be a f***ing awesome Brawl character. Really. I really want a crazy Pokemon like him or Sudowoodo or something - just something really unique, and not a typical 'fighter' Pokemon or a little cutesy one.

You're grasping at straws at this point, so I'm not going to keep arguing with you.

Wiht a character based around summons it highly possible for them to own, or suck hard. I say just stick to the Pokemon. I think most people would rather see a 3rd or 4th generation Pokemon over a trainer.

Why would PokeBalls and Item Finders have to be used offensively? Also, I didn't realise we were arguing. By series I meant more than just the games. Red/Ash has been the star of the anime and some mangas. I think of Pikachu as more of a mascot, than a star of the series. Of course he's still more important to the series than any of the trainers ever will be. But really what I was trying to get at was DiU's "this vs. that" thing was sorta silly. The Pokemon and the Trainers each have thier own pros and cons. If you compare the cool aspects of Pokemon to the uncool aspects of a trainer, who do you think is going to look better? I just reversed it. Although, I really don't see how Red is more generic than other Nintendo characters. Such as Popo & Nana. The same could be said for transforming characters like Zelda, and duo characters like Popo & Nana. That's no reason to not put them in the game.

I have a reason - Red/Ash is a poopoo face. Really, though, I don't necessarily have a problem with a trainer, and I'm sure it would work fine (he wouldn't have to 'summon' Pokemon per say, instead they would fly out of the Pokeball, attack, and then go back into the ball in one quick action, just like the HM animations seem to imply). However, the fact is there is a limited amount of space for characters in the game, and, 99 times out of 100, a Pokemon is a better choice than a boring trainer.

Of course he's still more important to the series than any of the trainers ever will be. The trouble is, if they included Red, it'd be as a representation of the games, using his FireRed design... which looks nothing like Ash. And even if he did look like Ash he'd be named Red, since it's been established as his name in the games, and it'd confuse thousands of people who know him as Ash. Then there's personality... Red was portrayed as a strong but silent type, while Ash is a loudmouth... and voices... I wouldn't mind if it was Veronica Taylor, but I couldn't stand to hear that damn new voice during gameplay... If they included Red, it's really nothing to do with the anime. And if they include Ash, it's all anime. Which kinda detracts from the point of SSBB. But I think I have a compromise... To move off the Pokemon stuff, let me re-announce that I'd like to see LoLo in Brawl. This is Sakurai we're talking about. You never know what he's thinking.

Ludicolo would be a f***ing awesome Brawl character. Really. I really want a crazy Pokemon like him or Sudowoodo or something - just something really unique, and not a typical 'fighter' Pokemon or a little cutesy one. Ludicolo would be good for Poké Balls. I guess Psyduck would be a candidate if no Pokémon species had appeared beyond the former 151. I'm still suspecting about Pachirisu, Darkrai, and Mimirol. Although, I really don't see how Red is more generic than other Nintendo characters. Maybe that's the perception some get when they see Red's icon as a rental, passive avatar (with more than one possible name sometimes). Like the Red's Cap trainer icon in Pokémon Stadium games, and Red's model itself in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Pokémon Battle Revolution (if no plot connects him to the game), and linked battles/trades in portable games. Pokémon are in any Pokémon media in contrast, which may give them more value if you see it from the owners' point of view. To move off the Pokemon stuff, let me re-announce that I'd like to see LoLo in Brawl. This is Sakurai we're talking about. You never know what he's thinking. Would he rather consider Lolo & Lala, or Lololo & Lalala?

I'm still suspecting about Pachirisu, Darkrai, and Mimirol. Do they have significant appearances in the anime? If not, do you know what is this season? Lucario does seem like a fair shoe-in at this point, which is fine with me (he can replace Pichu), but if there is room for another Poke, I'd like to see something at least somewhat out of left field, like Jiggles was (I know he/she appeared significantly in the anime, but she was still somewhat unexpected). Or, Is hehre a recurring 'joke' Pokemon in the DP anime which could be a possibility?
