I know I posted a list a ways back, but my tastes have changed a little. Here's the characters I want and why. I'll color them differently whether I expect them or just would really like them.
Reality vs.
fantasyThe VetsMarth-- Ike is basically what Roy was meant to be like. Slow, heavy, and STRONG. And with Marth being fleet of foot and very graceful, the exact contrast to Ike, it makes sense he would stick around for a second bout. Hmm... His FS could be a ground-based version of Ike's, with less power and more flair?
Mewtwo-- Pfft, please. The most popular legendary and a sick character to boot, Mewtwo had a LOT of potential in Melee that many people ignored. I'd love to have him return exactly the same, ready to kick some more unassuming ass. Make his FS something like Psycho Boost that lets him throw characters around like ragdolls.
Luigi-- He's a shoe-in. Just give him his deeper voice and Poltergust, please. His FS has to the "Luigi Finale" too.
Falco-- Not a shoe-in, but a damn good bet considering Fox retains his "Melee-ness." Falco is a fun character and a popular one to boot. And if he gets to summon his Sky Claw or whatever it was called for the FS, he's golden.
JPuff-- Practically a shoe-in. We all love the Puffster! Her FS could be a really funny one, where she puts all the opponents to sleep them beats the tar out of them one by one.
Ganondorf-- I enjoyed his Melee moveset, but obviously it's gonna change in Brawl. I can see him keeping the Warlock Punch but gaining different B moves beyond that, like a black hole attack and something using his sword from Twilight Princess. His FS is going to be lame as all hell, but I would KILL for it to be Pig Ganon. PLEASE, Sakurai. PLEASE!
Captain Falcon-- Shoe-in, just... not shown yet for some reason. I can see him being mostly the same. His FS could be a really flashy "Falcon ___" move, maybe something like "Falcon SUPER-DUPER Punch"? All the male characters explode and the girls all fall to their knees begging.
t3h n00bsTakamaru-- Very likely. He's a samurai and he rocks, plus his game is up there in the upper pantheon with Kid Icarus, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, etc. He could fight with his katana, kunai, turn invisible, and let his FS being the Inaguma Lighting where he shocks all other players with explosive thunderbolts. I'm 90% sure he's in the game somewhere.
Mike-- Not so likely, but if Sakurai thinks like I do (which I highly doubt), this guy has a ton of potential. StarTropics is the perfect series to pull from for Western influences and Mike's games belie some amazing moveset potential. The Psychic Shockwave, Island Yo-Yo, Wonder Horsehide, Magic Mirror, Cleets, Supernova, Laser Pistol, Excalibur, etc. etc. He could play like Link, only more modern. His FS would be a fantastic show of lights and power as he summons Mica and her family to assist him in battle. Oh, and the StarTropics locales are perfect Smash stage material.
Sukapon-- His chances are pretty slim, but he's a quirky character and I like that. His limbs would fly all over the place giving him insane reach, and his facial expressions are always priceless. His moves translate well from Joy Mecha Fight to Smash anyways, including the Tondeker and Sukapon Roll. Also, his FS could be some weird attack where he explodes on the opponent or summons another robot to do his bidding.
Barbara Bat-- Another unlikely but fun character. She could hover like Peach, kick and scratch with her nails, and maybe let loose some crazy riffs on her guitar. I picture her using a few illusion tactics from her other game as well. Her FS could be a jam session that works like a wider ranged DK FS.
Sami-- I'm putting her, or any other Wars rep, in the likely category. Why? Well, because I want to. And I feel that Wars is significant enough to get a rep of some form, personally. Granted, it didn't help Punch-Out but meh. Sami would do a lot of military style hand to hand combat, similar to Snake, and... well... just be similar to Snake all-around, I guess. If anything, I can see her being a fantastic clone. But her specials could involve different sorts of artillery if we want her to be unique. Her FS could be summoning a tank or NeoTank onto the field of battle, and blasting opponents.
Muddy-- It kinda sucks that Resetti is already an Assist, because Muddy kinda would just be too similar. Two moles is weird. But regardless, he's a fun idea too. Let him dig around the stage setting traps, holes, spikes, bombs, etc. and have the mayhem ensue. Every fighter needs a fighter like that, imo. His FS could summon Jinbe to the field to attack other fighters as Muddy races to eat as many summoned cabbages as he can.
Lucario-- Pfft. If Mario gets 3 reps, technically 6, then Pokemon can have four. After all, with Pichu gone Lucario becomes the perfect, and essential, replacement. Sorry Gens 2 and 3, but I guess you get no love ;p Lucario translates well into a fighting game, as he is a Fighting-type and can be potentially just as sentient as Mewtwo. Give him Aura Sphere, Metal Claw, Sky Uppercut, Force Palm, Me First, Feint, Detect, and whatever other moves you can think of it's all good. His FS could be a funky move where he slows time and can see "auras" of all the other fighters. That'd be awesome.
Krystal-- She's in the game. I'm sorry, but I can't see it any other way. And although I used to be really against her and anything Adventures stood for (which I sorta still am), I do appreciate that Star Fox has its heroine (note the "e"). She would be a staff fighter, not too indifferent from Pit in a lot of ways. Give her some pole jump for an Up B, shooting lasers from the crystal on the staff for a B, and a few other moves and it's cool. I can see her wearing her Adventures outfit plus a more modest skirt or something like that, considering the Assault and Command looks are a bit less characteristic and telling of Krystal. Her FS could be an attack where she hops on a pteranodon and gets to strafe players running below.
The ForeignersBonk-- Mmm, magnifique! My favorite pick for 3rd party rep aside from Megs himself, Bonk would complete the triad of "Virtual Console" being the TGFX rep. Bonk's attacks would be similar to Sonic in that they're all based around, well... headbutting (I avoided "bonking" because of you silly Brits who seem to frequent these boards ;p). I can see him using a flower to float for his Up B, stomping the ground, breathing fire, biting players, and doing a few other wacky things only the "PC Genjin" could do. Oh, and of course he could become Butthead Bonk/Kronk with some of his specials. And his FS would be the humorous Kronkzilla from Bonk 3/Super Bonk.
Bomberman-- I really do think B-Daman is a heavy contender for the coveted "final spot" we so often speak of. His bomb attacks would be fun in motion, and he worked pretty well in his own "Smash" game Dreammix TV. He has Smash written all over him, really. I can see his FS being a giant "Power Bomb" or "Skull Bomb" that threatens to decimate the whole stage if people don't destroy it in time. Or, if they're going for the "safer" route, maybe Hopper?
Simon Belmont-- As cool as he is, Simon (and any other CV rep for that matter) is a bit unlikely. Snake is Konami's rep and basically mascot for the time being, as CV has slipped under the radar over the past decade. Simon would be fun though, as a whip character has yet to be done. The cross, axe, and other subweapons would be fun too. I can totally see him using the reflecting crystal from Simon's Quest or the daggers from every game ever. Holy water and the Bible would be fun too, despite sacrilegiousity(
) being through the roof. For a FS, how about the Item Crashes from the latter CV games? Holy Water Rain would be fun. So would stopping time. There's a ton of options, really.
Mega Man-- THE shoe-in for 3rd party, I can see Mega Man from miles away. Classic-style, of course, he would use the Mega Buster, Master Weapons, sliding kick, Rush, Beat, maybe even Tango... There's a lot to pull from, as the Mega Anthology is HUGE. I highly doubt we'll see anything but classic Megs, as .EXE and X are just not going to draw as huge audiences and, frankly, NOBODY remembers or cares about Volnutt or any of the others. For a FS, how about the Hyper Mega Man transformation from Marvel vs. Capcom? Rush could fuse with him and he becomes a massive robot who lays heavy damage. If not, we can also see the Super Suit from Mega Man 7 which is basically the Power and Jet Adaptors combined from 6. Mega Man's just that kinda guy.
Klonoa-- When I think about it, the only Namco rep I really want to see is Klonoa. Why? Well, he just has the feel of a Smash character. Something about him reminds me of Smash. Maybe it's the fact that his games are still in 2D or that the funky original gameplay style melds well with the world of Nintendo, but I like Klonoa. The Wind Bracelet would be a fun way to mess with characters, and there's a lot of potential there. His FS could be an attack where he creates a tornado or calls upon a warm of enemies to rush the stage. That's something Klonoa would do.
Goemon-- I LOVE the Mystical Ninja games, but once again: Konami Rep taken care of. Goemon, though, would feel very similar to Mario in that he would be across the board average. Throw in that pipe, throwing coins, firecrackers, chain pipe, and some other funky moves and he'd feel like his own fighter though. Impact would be both a fun stage and a fun FS. Obviously not both, so maybe Ebisumaru could lend a hand during a FS and gas up the stage with his farts until the players gag? No? ...alright
Marina-- I've seen her thrown around fanlists more than enough times. What a wonderful idea, albeit nigh impossible. The licenses are too weird, and regardless: is she that recognizable? I feel like the 3rd parties would have to be recognizable... Regardless, her grabbing attacks and dashes would make for an interesting moveset. And pulling Clanbombs or summoning Blockman for a FS are kinda fun ideas, I think.
Pacman-- I'm not that excited for him, but he makes sense. And he's a lot more likely than a lot of these suggestions. I mean, he's the only other one besides Sonic to have met Mario. But anyways, Pacman would obviously have items from his latter games like the Pac-Roll, buttstomp, slingshot, etc. OH, and he'd have the PERFECT FS: He eats a Power Pellet, turning all other fighters into blue ghosts while he gains a speed boost. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC.
Geno-- Puh-LEAZE. If you don't see this character in the game in ANY form, you are just blind. Geno is way request and way awesome. I can see him being uber-badass while still being just a puppet. He'd fall apart when he gets hit, but be able to shoot bullets and lasers up the wazoo. The Geno Whirl would be awkward to translate, but I can see that appearing as well. For a FS, I would see Geno pulling off the Geno Flash and turning into a cannon, completely obliterating everything with an explosion of light. Who DOESN'T like Geno?
The Downright WeirdKabuki Quantum Fighter-- What? Who? There was this weird HAL game pre-Nintendo for the NES called "Kabuki Quantum Fighter" where a programmer goes into a computer as the KQF to fight viruses and stuff. It was downright fucked up, because your main mode of attack was whipping people with your hair, but I can totally see Sakurai pulling this one out of his ass at least for an Assist trophy but better yet a fighter. Wtf would he do? I don't even know. Digitize the arena and smash fighters for a FS?
R.O.B.-- They're in the game as enemies, but as a fighter they would be amazing. Give them Akuma's abilities, where they rip off moves from other fighters. That would be awesome. ROB could get a randomly generated moveset each time you play, or you could BUILD ROB with what you want. OR, they can go the other route and give ROB unique moves and let Prof. Hector come along for the ride. A FS where Hector does some Gyromite/Stack Up action with ROB, flattening players with ROB's "stacking skills" would be awesome XD
Captain N-- 100% impossible, but 100% pure win. Zapper for B, the ability to jump insanely high with his NES Pad, use other accessories for attacks, and a FS where he pauses the screen. C'mon: Kevin Keene rocks.
