There are people all over the internet (mostly the Nintendo boards and the "Nsiders" who constantly complain about Solid Snake in SSBB. They call themselves "purists." And I ask you...what's the big deal? I think it's great he's in it!
And now I ask your opinion. What do you guys think? Should or should he not be in it?

I'm not really an MGS fan, but I don't HATE the addition of Solid Snake. Especially since it opens up the floodgates for even cooler third party opponents to join the fray. And even if they don't, I don't really mind as long as he's fun to play as.

A lot of people have some sort of gamer's brain damage, and decided that 3rd Partys are as bad as competitors. It should be looked upon as something great, to see that they really have support from whoever makes MGS (i forget right now).

I love the Metal Gear series. I own the original NES game and MGS1-2. Solid Snake is an awesome character, also.
But SSB is about Nintendo. That's why I bought the first two. I don't want him in SSB for the same reason I don't want Bugs Bunny or Shrek in Kingdom Hearts and the same reason I don't want Sailor Moon or Batman in Jump SuperStars. Is it because they are bad characters? No. They just aren't Disney, Jump, or Nintendo characters.
Oh, Spud, his name is Hideo Kojima.

The deal is that it opens the door for other 3rd Party characters such as that stupid hedgehog (Sonic in other words), with will corrupt the 'nintendo all-stars theme' of the two previous games.

I am now tolerant about third-party characters in Brawl. Still not happy about Snake, though.
Kojima has the nerve to "practically beg" Sakurai to put in a Konami character whose majority of games have been on Sony systems in a Nintendo fighting game with Nintendo's all-stars.
I would be a little more tolerant had the Konami character been Simon Belmont. At least the majority of the Castlevania games that star Simon were on Nintendo systems.
Him and the ORIGINAL Mega Man for the win.
And really, the better question would be "what's the big deal with Sonic?" Apparently the only reason why a lot of people want Sonic in is because of the whole "Mario vs. Sonic" deal.
Isn't that what that Mario & Sonic Olympics game is for? To settle such fight between the two. If so, what's the point of having Sonic in Brawl then?

They can put anyone they want for all I care. Sooner or later they're gonna run out of Nintendo characters (god forbid). Then what the hell are they gonna do? Put in more Pokemon? I don't think so. Third party characters are the best thing (in my opinion) that Nintendo could do with that game! It not only opens up more character choices, but a stronger friendship between rival companies. Which also means, they might add Nintendo characters in there games...For instance, Imagine playing as Mario as a secret character in an upcoming Sonic game? Actually...nevermind. That would raise to much controversy

So the reason why we should have third-party characters is because we would run out of Nintendo characters? Nonsense.
Nintendo is always making new franchises. And with newer franchises come the new characters. And they can always go back through the archives for classic/obscure ones like Ice Climbers, Duck Hunt Dog, Goku the Monkey King, Alice the Balloon Kid, Harry the Teleroboxer, Sky Skipper, or even the oldest Nintendo character of all, Mr. Game & Watch.

Yeah, if they have 4-8 characters from Nintendo main series, plus one from each of Nintendo's 50+ other series, they could easily reach 100 characters. If they add 12 new character to each game we would need to worry until SSB8. I don't think running out of characters is a problem

Quick rundown of points here: 1. MGS is published by Konami. 2. The NES game was not the original game The MSX game was. 3. Sonic and Mario aren't going to be fighting in M&S Olymics. I want to have Mario beat up on Sonic like I used to draw in the old days 4. We're not going to run out of Nintendo characters. Personally, I greeted the news with excitement. I think it's extremely sad - a curse upon the Nintendo fan - that so many people are annoyed, angry or outright insane about Snake (and other third party characters). Why the hell? It's not like his inclusion is going to spoil the game. Everyone can see clearly through the daily updates that the focus is still on Nintendo - and Sakurai has stated as much! Nintendo needs its third parties. Konami, Capcom, Sega... they are all massive third party developers for Nintendo systems, and I see no reason for Nintendo not to extend an invite to their exclusive party. And anyone who calls themselves an "SSB purist" because they don't like Snake reeeeally need to get some perspective. For example, chances are they are ugly and have no real friends.

Fencing is going to be one of the events, according to a recent interview with Miyamoto. I don't feel bad about Snake being in Brawl. Personally, I'd rather see Simon Belmont in, but Snake has been in three games on Nintendo systems (Metal Gear, Snake's Revenge, and MGS: The Twin Snakes). Besides, my memories of the NES aren't limited to games developed and published by Nintendo. I remember Castlevania, Mega Man, and Final Fantasy as fondly as I remember Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid. In my opinion, third-party games are part of the Nintendo experience.

Also, I didn't actually say Nintendo would run out of characters ( which seems likely to impossible) I mentioned it would be a good way to continue the series into later years and still have plenty to chose from. I would rather see new characters appearing in the games as opposed to characters that will in SSB forever.

Not to be an ass or anything, but Simon has been the main character in 3 Nintendo Castlevania games too, if my memory is correct (the original, Simon's Quest, and Super IV).
Third party characters don't faze me at all. I'm quite curious to see who else may make it in. If Capcom, Sega, Square, Namco or any other third party makes it in, it'll be the only time you could ever combine those companies into one battle. Which is pretty awesome, in my opinion. Mega Man Vs. Sonic Vs. Pac Man Vs. Snake? That is a geekfest of all degrees of coolness, and only Brawl has the possibility to make it happen. ^_^

Snake actually has five, Metal Gear(NES/Famicom), Snakes Revenge(NES), Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake(Famicom), Ghost Babel(GBC), and Twin Snakes(GCN).
