I love the Metal Gear series. I own the original NES game and MGS1-2. Solid Snake is an awesome character, also.

Heh, I was thinking of cosplaying Count Bleck. And my girlfriend as -SPOILERS-.............................Tippi.
Either that or I'll be the WarioWare Wario.
If only I can manage to reach a con, never have before.

I hope I didn't throw it away... EDIT:Found it!

All I've ever been to is Metrocon, last year. It was fun though, I'd like to go again sometime!

I've only been to ConnectiCon 06 and 07, but each experience kicked ass. I dunno if you're into Dominic Deegan at all (the comic has it's haters), but its creator, Mookie, hosted "Human Cosplay Chess," which is a real chess game played by two people, with the pieces being cosplayers up on a stage. It's pretty sweet, and someone recorded most of it and posted it on YouTube. There's nine parts and it takes about an hour and a half to watch, but it's soooo worthwhile.

I've decided to bump this thread since people are now complaining about Sonic (which isn't new) and not Snake.
Anyways, I'd like to hear their side of the story as why they feel Sonic shouldn't be in. This is a way for them to explain themselves and hopefully avoid...future flamings...

Good call. Keep the petty anti-Sonic stuff out of the Sonic threads. Go for it.

In the whole scheme of things, I want the game to stay Nintendo. The third party stuff is a bit cluttering. However, I have no place to complain as Sonic made it in ( ). I just don't want the 3rd party to be overflow. 3 is fine. As long as I get some Nintendo favorites, and maybe an obscured here and there, I'm right as rain (which means put Dedede in already!)

It seemed a bit strange at first, but now I think the odd few 3rd party franchises in Smash Bros. complements the Nintendo stuff perfectly. There's a small enough amount that it doesn't overshadow the Nintendo stuff, and we get to see some the great stuff other companies produce for Nintendo consoles, too. It's win-win for me. ;D

I'm obviously against most (if not all) of this forum when I say it, but I would like to see as many 3rd party characters as possible. I mean, I'd like to see some other Nintendo characters, but theres nothing left I couldn't live without in terms of Nintendo characters.

I agree with DiU, but I would love to see it as possibly another franchise. Maybe just a big Videogame Heroes thing. I mean Dream Mix TV World Fighters was based on this premise, and should a new game in that series come out, it'd be great if they got as many people in as possible.
Of course, while we're here with Smash, I don't mind seeing some of Nintendo's longest running partners (and rivals) contributing to the Brawl. I think it's a good kick in the nuts to all of the crazy militant Nintendo fanboys (luckily, we don't really have any here... in fact they seem to be a dying breed all round).

I feel that Snake classes up the game a bit. I mean, Metal Gear is not only a great franchise but it's really well-respected in general by the gaming community, casual and hardcore alike. So, personally, it's a very, very cool addition because it gives Smash that little extra "oomph" to make it that more special and respectable.
Frankly, and I have to agree with the naysayers here too, the Smash series isn't exactly "casual gamer" friendly nor is it very "classy." Snake adds that little flair the game needed to become legitimate as a respected franchise. As much as I love Nintendo and all their goodness, they don't have the lasting appeal they used to for the hardcore or casual crowd. Snake adds some of that back, and I love it.
In response to Fry, Smash may very well become VG Heroes Fighting Game X or whatever it'll be called. I don't see why people wouldn't want to toss in their franchises; Nintendo isn't one to shit all over properties and start pumping out shovelware like other developers *rolls eyes towards Sega, Konami, and any American developer*

I'm not really against Sonic's inclusion. He just happened to get clipped by my fury at the game's delay--using the Bloo Blur as a veil for that really kinda skeeved me. I mean, it wasn't even announced on the DOJO!!, and for someone who avoids IGN as frequently as possible like me, I wouldn't have had any way of knowing if any of you guys hadn't said anything.
Anyway, so far as 3rd party characters are concerned, I would like to see more--five would be an ideal number to round out my desires. Snake, Sonic, and preferably Megaman, Pac-Man, and Alex Roivas. I, too, think SSB has great potential to evolve beyond just Nintendo...but at the same time, my top priority has been and will always be Falco. If it means less third party characters just so he stays in, than that's also fine by me.
Falco is, without a doubt, my favorite video game character ever.[/i][/u] Saying I have a huge man-crush on him is under-exaggurating. Having him in Melee was really such an incredible treat, and he got a good rap in StarFox Assault and Command. So if SSB has to evolve, it should evolve so a greater number of third party characters can be used while not losing the ability to draw from second-card characters.
In regards to Sonic himself--I can see why people would be upset. Sonic hasn't done a whole lot of good for Nintendo. He was actually better for the company back in the days of Mario vs. Sonic, where Sonic had quality games that could rival Mario's. But Sega went 3rd Party right around the time Sonic Adventure 2 came out--which, to me and many others I know of, kickstarted the Great Sonic hobo Shower. So Nintendo consoles have gotten every Sonic game from Adveture 2 and onward, with the exception of Sonic 06 and Sonic Racers, and each of them have failed pretty hardcore. The only exception is Sonic Rush, which played well but got impossible to beat once you hit Sonic or Blaze's fifth level.
I dunno if I've said this here before, but if all major video game characters lived average lives, Mario, the Master Chief and PaRappa would each be kind of the "head of the house" for their individual companies (Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony). Sonic would have been such a character as well, but has since fallen into despair; Sonic is now the dope-fiend best friend who spends all his time hopping from one House to the other, sitting on the couch all day, eating all their chips and salsa, pissing in the garden and saying that the big job is coming through soon--and he'll use the opportunity and the cash to clean himself up. But he never does, he just spends the money on more crack. It's at this point where Mario would force Sonic to confront these issues and straighten out his act, because Papa Shiggy is home and he's gonna teach Sonic some proper work ethic with two new jobs--Mario & Sonic Olympics and Super Smash Bros.Brawl.
So, by comparison, Sonic may be the most popular choice, but he may not have been the best choice. Pac-Man's games have never been given the fame they may deserve, but they're not bad games...Megaman has been on Nintendo's good side for ages, and even if his games are pretty much re-hashes, they're still not bad. And Alex Roivas was only in one game, but it was a brilliant goddamn game. There were better options. But this one, at least, draws the most people to Brawl and may send more Brawl players over to Sonic games (which they'll regret buying if Sonic Team does NOT shape up in the coming months), which is good for business, which is really what this 3rd Party crap is all about.

Megaman has been on Nintendo's good side for ages, and even if his games are pretty much re-hashes, they're still not bad. Can't say I agree with that, myself... I love Mega Man, but he's been on a massive decline, far worse than Sonic has. I can still get enjoyment out of Sonic's games, but the last Mega Man game I was able to enjoy was made in 1998. I forced myself through some of the Battle Network games... they had some nice story, but the dullest gameplay I've experienced in my life. I tried to force myself through Network Transmission, but it was too bad even for me to take. And I got all ten of Shadow's endings and all the furniture in Pokémon Channel. I love Mega Man as a character, and I hope he is in Brawl. But that series is the one franchise I've truly given up on for now.

I too think Megaman's games have not been good. It's basically the same thing over and over. How many Megaman X games were there? How many differences were made to each one? Maybe add a character here and there, but you're still getting the same experience. The last Megaman game I can say I fully enjoyed was Legends. And that was a game that tried something new and was great.
I Megaman does make it in, I'm hoping for a moveset made entirely out of MM Legends/64.
