Wwll I don't think we need to worry about the roster. I suspect I can be up to 50 characters, of course I in no way know this. 50 will not happen. No, I'm not saying it will. I'm just saying they could easily surprise us very positively. They've done it so far, I believe. But my point is that I don't think you have to worry.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had 56 characters. Granted the graphics and amount of crap in the game was vastly different, but it's been done.
And wasn't there a recent Mortal Kombat game with 60 characters?

Yes exactly my point, though I didn't state it. It can be done, and Sakurai seems like he is very keen on making this the best fighting game ever. Or at least close.

...or he could have an in-game roster of 40 with full-online connectivity wherein you can download further characters over time and possibly exceed 50 :D
No offense Masa, but I like my idea better.

We probably won't get a Smash with 60 characters until the next console is released, and even then, they might be able to get Sakurai to direct, so the choices could end up being piss-poor.

Sakurai kinda made it sound this might be his swan song with Nintendo. I mean, he was already peeved they were just gonna release Smash Melee 2.0. Who is to say he wouldn't just make one helluva game to blow them away, then flip them the bird for making him quit the company in the first place and never return to work on one again?
Hehe... cynical, much?

I know so little of what goes on behind the games I play...

Hehe... cynical, much? Chances are he'll probobly make the next one too. He has only left Nintendo in physical pressence. Since he's left he made Meteos, Kirby Canvas Curse, and Brawl. They pretty much call him up when needed. Plus, the "Foot-in-the-door" phenomenon. By accepting to make Brawl he's more likely to accept another Nintendo project. I think he's cursed. Also, ferom what I've read, he left due to the sequlization at Hal(they haven't made anything in a while that wasn't Kirby) so he left, but had no hard feelings. Why didn't he just segest to make a new IP. I would have liked to see one.

He didn't make Meteos with Nintendo, Smashchu, it was published by Bandai in Japan.

You're still right about Canvas Curse and Brawl, but Sakurai himself had zero involvement with Nintendo when he developed Meteos.

Meteos WAS designed by Masahiro Sakurai, while it was produced by Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Right now, a Disney edition called Meteos: Disney Magic, was released a while ago.
Speaking of editions, what if Masahiro Sakurai rereleased SSBB as a special edition or two, with extra stuff added to it, just like how Capcom created Street Fighter II: Turbo, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers?

No one disputed Sakurai designing Meteos, I'm disputing Nintendo's involvement. Nintendo didn't touch the game in Japan, and even when it was published in the States as a first party title, that wasn't till long after Sakurai had finished the project. Smashchu was citing Meteos as an example of Sakurai coming back to Nintendo after he had left, and I was correcting him. And personally, I'd probably buy every version of Brawl that came out, but I would still hate Nintendo for sucking up all my money like that. I'd rather that the "Ultimate Edition" of Brawl was the first and only version released.
