The reason I say Ice Climbers over Game & Watch is because the NES has sound representation already (Pit), while only Mr. Game & Watch can represent the G&W series. And Game & Watches are very much a part of Nintendo history, so losing Mr. G&W would be kind of disappointing.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before.... but "Famicom" and "Disk System" are not the same thing in Nintendo's mind. When Nintendo talks about Famicom representation they mean pre-1986.
Pit is a Disk System representative, as are Link and Samus.

As I see, This looks more like an educated Guess, everything from one of the original 12 not returning (Im betting on Ness, Lucas WILL remplace him) to 6 of Melee roster not returning (There are six clones in melee, Duh! three of wich were diferent versions of the most popular nintendo characters) looks like something I could also predicted. Just the bare numbers (34 characters, 20 starters, 14 secret) seems like the most risque part of this asumption

My thoughts on the new characters, if his list is right Diddy K. Dedede Ridley Krystal Little Mac Anotheer new franchise(You decide) This is if Sakurai adds 2 third party characters (he could only add just one, he did say 1-2). I like-y . Makes everyone happy. My guesses for the other franchise. Either Olimar or Takamaru. Those are the best bets. Also, it may not be Little Mac, but, hell, I added him any way. He better get in. Boxer for a fighting game. What's not to love?

Wow, it's been a while since I posted here.
Anyway, the way I see it, Pit only represents his own game (which has a large cult following, remember).
As to the GameFAQs post...one thing that always gets me about these types of things is that they, despite claiming to be privy to such secret information, can never give specifics, just vague details.

As to the GameFAQs post...one thing that always gets me about these types of things is that they, despite claiming to be privy to such secret information, can never give specifics, just vague details. The best reason I can give is to protect their own arses. If they are too specific, they'll get in mondo trouble as most of the info they give is under embargo. If they give vauge discriptions then they go under the radar, and give out the info they want. Also, since it's usually seen as BS by most of the comunnity, the company can disregard it as no one beleive's it's validaty. No harm, no foul. Giveing out characters would definaty get him some heat.

There's always NDAs. So they CAN'T give info. Hence why losers can hide behind their lies and nobody can truly be sure if that was for real or not. But the guy who posted about Melee... he came outta nowhere, posted a roster, swore it on his soul, and left. People begged him till release to explain himself, to answer who "Roy and Marth" were, and give us a good reason why we should expect to be playing as the "joke" characters Pichu and Dr. Mario.
Come the Japanese release of Melee, I nearly crapped myself. He was right all along. Three months in advance.
How does a person guess 9 characters out of the blue? Especially when they're stuff like Mr. Game and Watch?
...I sound like an idiot following this guy like a lost dog, but I'm buying it for now. He didn't give us anything definite anyways. No crazy roster, no whackjob ideas. Just a number. And I really have nothing to lose.

That is possible. But I've seen so many false claims over the last while, I can't help but be sceptical of everything that isn't the official site.

Btw, figured I'd throw this in. Pit isn't a rep for the NES/Famicom/etc. He was a Golden Era Disk System character, like Link and Samus. He just... never took off. So it still stands that, if Sakurai feels it, the Famicom needs a rep. And that rep, obviously, can still be Ice Climbers. Hence why I think Game and Watch gets the cut. He's not as shocking anymore anyways. Unless, you know, he magically became 3D between games...

Whether it's true or not, it's fun trying to match those predictions. That's why I'm loving these months.
What other Famicom characters can you think of?

So Ice Climbers are Famicom right? Correct. Basically it'd be a fight between Ice Climbers, Balloon Fight, Bubbles, Urban Champion, Professor Hector/ROB, Mach Rider, Tamagon and Excitebike. Them's be the pre-Disk System Famicom exclusives (that aren't arcade ports, board games, sports or Zapper games). Well, maybe also Duck Hunt Dog

And Donkey Kong Jr.? That'd be an unexpected move, since Diddy Kong is DK's Luigi these days. Not as shocking as the recent surprises from Sakurai IMO. When you think about it, he's still a classic, but isn't a one-hit wonder, either.

The issue with DK Jr. is that he's kind of...outdated. And not in the same sense Pit and the Ice Climbers are--He's pretty much been phased out of existence between the Rare-and-onward incarnation of Donkey Kong and Diddy.

Well, you can't say it's not possible... He is a pure early 80s Nintendo.
If they reveal the Champ of Chimps to be a mere Assist Trophy despite how much we want him in, I'll start suspecting between K. Rool and Donkey Kong Jr.
I guess Donkey Kong Jr. can be said to be a Mario character instead of a DK character, as he only appeared in Mario games.
