That or he works in Nintendo and is anonymously spoiling the game.

It's happened before. Nintendo employees have to sign Non-disclosure agreements to ensure confidentiality, but video game developers have from time to time (and a lot of Western companies like Rare and EA became notorious for this) would have employees who would slip information out to the public swearing to have their sources but be unable to say anything.
Again, it happened for Melee...

Y'know... the more I think about it, even though I really don't want this to happen, if the guy's theory is true, it seems like Falco will be the sixth person to be axed after all. I mean, firstly, Falco seems like he'd be the hardest of the "maybe returning" group to be decloned. Secondly, Krystal is probably going to be a newcomer. If this is the case, then I'm not sure that the Star Fox franchise will get 3 reps, especially if the roster total is 34. And Thirdly, a move I really see Sakurai making is revamping Young Link to fit the style from Wind Waker, which would also make him ridiculously easy to declone. So Falco being cut is a move that would break my heart, but unfortunately is also one that I find very likely right now. Hopefully he stays for Tei's sake though. I'd hate to see a grown man cry.

I wonder if Sakurai is aware of this rumor... What if he's the one who spreaded the rumor? Who knows?

Oh... My... God... Can you guys actually hear yourselves right now? You're all talking like every requested character and every fave is already confirmed! And why the hell do you keep talking about a grid? Because of course, a grid is a really good basis for deciding a character for a fighting game!! This discussion is disappointing. I seriously expected better from this forum.

About the only piece of information I think Peach's update confirms is that clearly theres no shortage of characters if we can have 2 a week.
I still believe this guy is full of shit. I mean, come on - 5 more characters in the remaining 3 months, after an average of more than 1 a week? This is by far the absolute biggest flaw of this. Actually, the biggest flaw is believing a random dude on gamefaqs, past precedence or not.

Flip's talking about how well the theorized number of characters in the full roster fits with the current layout of the Characters page on the official website. I kind of have a feeling the site layout was decided after the full roster, by the way, so there's nothing wrong with noting that a certain pattern fits. Also, just pretend that the disclaimer "IF and only IF the GameFAQs theory is true, then I think the following MIGHT happen" is in every one of my posts. It'd be there, except I'd get tired of typing that all the time

Ouch, Fwyguy. 'oo hurt my feewings :< All I'm really talking about is how I noticed that the guy's numbers work with the predetermined grid Sakurai has set up on the site. He could leave it with gaps or incomplete, I guess, but I assume it's going to perfectly square and in that case it doesn't have to stop at 34 characters but it can work with 34. 19 vets plus Sheik, 15 newcomers plus Zamus. Two nice, perfect grids. And it's only logical to take the next step and be like "oh my god, who got the axe?" It's just all fun and speculation, man It's all I have to go on, and I love this kinda stuff Speaking of which... remember that guy who "deciphered" the select screen, and said he found room for 9 characters a row? That could potentially work with the 34 total roster, so long as the rows are uneven. Otherwise, one of the two guys is wrong. One has his word, the other has pictures, and the only way they can go together is by assuming we'll get uneven rows a la Melee. When all this shit starts to unravel come.. November, I'll have the last laugh. ...that didn't sound ominously familiar

The rumor said there would be 6 characters who were axed. He also said one of the franchises in melee is axed (1) and one of the original 12 is gone (2). So that leave 4 clones. Can you guess which 4 will be gone? (HINT: It's Dr. Mario, Y. Link, Pichu and Roy). Chances are that Falco and Ganondorf are safe. Also, I posted this rumor on Nsiders, introducing it into the forums. And it spread like a virus. Posted it on Teusday only to see many posty talking about it Thursday. Soincce it's pretty much true now, I wonder hwo they'll react. They were disapointed for only getting 34 characters instead of 40.

I'm all for speculating who might go and who might stay. I'm all for quite realistic assumptions when some new information comes to light.
But all this talk of neat little grids being a determiner in the character roster is really stretching it.
And basing new assumptions on other assumptions (eg. Falco's absence because of Krystal's inclusion)? You're better than this, guys!

My main concern is that Young Link will get in over Falco. They'd replace YL with Wind Waker Link, making him no longer a clone and a fairly unique character, but still call him Young Link, so he's technically a returning character. Kind of like how Twilight Princess Link is replacing OoT Link but he still counts as a veteran. And Fry, I don't ASSUME Krystal will be in, I just find it fairly likely.

Yes, I did read your post, but what you said has been said by 1000 poeple before you. WW Link isn't happening. I can tell you that. Also, we aren't sure Krystal is happening. I wouldn't place my bets any time soon.

Discussing Hero of Winds Link is always complicated... He would require considering: - His name, his look, and other stuff from his games that make him a solid addition (partners, stages, items)
- What fans want and what has be done in past SSB games (always a character/stage/item pack of the same graphic style, and probably a stage that resembles a past game vaguely).
I prefer to assume it won't happen and let myself get impressed if it does happen. It would be more "WTF" than "Pokémon Trainer", especially if they focus on his look, which isn't an important fact in some storyline/fiction/canon. It would be in special cases, like: - Paper Mario, who has it on his name
- Mr. Game & Watch, a symbol of retro gaming
- A pixelated version of Mario, symbolizing retro gaming
What TLoZ character that was not from OoT or MM was in SSBM? Marin was, but as a trophy...
