Characters like Pit, Meta Knight and the Pokémon Trainer’s Charizard are envied at first glance for their wings.
Rumour has it they can use those wings to sail through the sky like gliders. But that can’t be true, can it?They... They’re really flying!Magnificent!
From the perspective of the rules of Smash, I sense that mastering this skill could be quite beneficial. That is, IF you can master it...First, do a mid-air jump!If you continue holding the jump button, you’ll start gliding. You don’t have to hold down the jump button, though. At the peak of your mid-air jump, you can also rapidly tilt the Control Stick backwards to forwards to link the jump to a glide.Tilt the stick down (or forwards) to angle down.Tilt the stick up (or backwards) to aim high.Since it’s glider-style flight, you fly based on how you’re angled. You can control both your angle and your speed by pitching your "nose" up or down. You can’t change direction though, so be careful! If you stall out in mid-air or get attacked, your flight will be cancelled.

Cool update!
Always wondered if that gliding action that Meta Knight did in the Nintendo World Trailer was a new technqie.
It's great to know that Pit (even though I think most people thought he could do it) and Charizard can do it. It's going to be interesting to see Charizard do it as he looks like a heavy character.
The first picture of all 3 of them gliding looks so cool!

Ah.
Now only half an hour after the update...
Well, that actually sounds inconvenient for people using up for jumping. Like me. How would it work? Or, will the up=jump rule be entirely wiped out?
The control looks a tad like flying in Mario World to me. Well, I seriously hope the simple-button-but-hard-to-gain-actual-control style of HAL's will be retained.
This is Sakurai's work, after all.

Cool. No doubt we will soon see a "feather" item that allows any character to do this ;D

This is a cool update! I love the first pic with Pit, Meta Knight, and Charizard. Nintendo's Winged Smashers.
If Ridley is in, then Ridley would glide, too! And if Young Link is back and if he is decloned into the cel-shaded Young Link, hopefully he gains the Roc's Cape (FSA and TMC) so he could glide. Any more differences between Young Link and adult Link would be great!
This dream is farfetched but I hope that if Duck Hunt Dog is in, he would have the duck riding on his back a la Banjo-Kazooie so he would glide on the duck's back.
Hey, what if there is a new item - the Wing Cap from Super Mario 64? Maybe anyone without the natural ability to glide such as Mario, Link, and Samus could temporarily glide?!

Deku Leaf would be awesome, too. It could go either way. I just hope that cel-shaded Young Link is playable.

I think its the Starfox one just entering the planet's atmosphere - Link's little platofrm resembles the cruiser.
No excuses for no Ridley now, Sakurai.

I can't wait to try gliding out. I think that FryGuy is right, there'll probably be a feather that lets anyone get a cape for a while so that everyone can glide at least a little.

So I take it that this gets rid of flapping...?
Kirby, Jigglypuff, and Dedede would be floaters, could they also glide?

I think flapping/multijumping still exists, because Meta Knight and Pit still did it in the original trailer. Damn... Pit kicked Peach and Kirby to the floor as far as recovery goes. He gets 5 jumps, the power to glide, AND free flight as his Up B. They are really trying to make him the most popular character, aren't they?

Kirby, Jigglypuff, and Dedede would be floaters, could they also glide? I doubt it. Their flight is/would be more like a balloon. Have you ever seen a balloon glide?
