I said in some other topic that Ridley not appearing in the game somewhere seems utterly rediculous. This doesn't necessarily mean he'd be playable, but he's the Samurai Goroh of Metroid--second-most developed/important character to the franchise. If he isn't playable, he's a boss--and if he's not a boss, he's an assist trophy. At this point, arguing his inclusive nature seems moot, especially considering that they've added boss characters like Petey Piranha. Here it isn't so bad as in other forums, but whenever I see somebody say anything on the topic, there's nothing I can really add without being redundant.

I'm also tired of people thinking Dark Samus or the SA-X would make good playable characters. That's just walking into dangerous territory; what could either of them, particularly the SA-X, do that Samus is incapable of doing already? Metroid has other characters it could draw from that would be much more innovative to make and fun to use.

And Smashchu, I also dislike seeing repeated characters (Mario/Dr.Mario, Link/Young Link, Ryu/Evil Ryu, I was even against the idea of Zero Suit Samus, until it was proven she was a transformation) But I feel That the Wind Waker graphical style needs some representation ( thats 5 games, including the most recent one), I would feel robed if all the Zelda stuff we get are from Twilight Princess, Sakurai Needs to put something that Aonuma actually feels his (And he has said that TP is not his favorite Zelda and OoT was Miyamoto´s last) so if there is no WWLink I am hopping for Tingle or Tetra to cover that Front.

Also to get this back on topic, I am tired of hearing people say " If ( x ) is not in the game, I am not buying it" and people saying they shouldn't put stuff from Mother3 because it wasn't released in America. Some words to these people, this might be our only way to experience a little bit of the goodness that is Mother3, so Mother3 Characters and references all the way for me...

Black Knight is from Fire Emblem: Path of Radience. He is (spoiler)
He was one of Diann's, the evil kingdom, four riders. Basically, was 1337. He kills Ike's father, and you fight him later in the game.

A Metroid Assist Trophy would be incredibly badass. They just aren't really characters (unless you count the baby Metroid from Metroid II/Super Metroid).

A better way to put it: Ridley is to Bowser as Metroids are to Goombas.

Well, I'm tired of people saying they want any character not shown in America. Sukopon? Lip? Masamaru (or however its spelt.)?

I no not of these characters or really what they can do. All I know is that FryGuy is a big fan of a couple of them and I (IMO) would not want them to appear in Brawl at all. I think Lucas is fine, but that should be it.

Also, Mike Jones. I know a lot of you guys are a big fan of Star Tropics, but I just don't see what the big deal is with him.

Would you really count Ridley as a main enemy in Metroid? I would say Mother Brain is the Bowser of Metroid, and Ridley is the Baby Bowser.

I highly doubt Mother Brain will be a playable character in Brawl though, but who knows. Stranger things have happened.;D

Never played Star Tropics myself, but one of Mike Jones' big hooks is that he's one of the very few region-specific characters that's from America. Since there are an abundance of Japanese-only characters that COULD be used like Takamaru or Sukapon, and two have already been in Melee (Marth and Roy, since Fire Emblem was a Japanese-only franchise at the time), people want to see a little bit of love for the US-of-A.

Also, while Mother Brain has been a final boss and Ridley has never had that pleasure, Ridley is the only consistant and unique character in the Metroid games. I think he's only never been in Metroid II and Metroid Prime 2. Not to mention, Mother Brain is not evil in her own right; Ridley is the true leader of the Space Pirates, and he's the one that manipulated Mother Brain into being villainous.

Nerrr. Need to read up on Wikipedia before posting stuff like that. Apparently, canonical regards to Ridley's exact status with the Space Pirates is unknown--sometimes he's listed as the leader of the entire group, other times he's represented as more of a General or some sort. Someone of high rank, but not the highest. So who really knows...eh, I'm tired, my head hurts. X(

I did remember reading that it was USA specific. That would be good! You got the Americans here saying "Who the hell is [insert Japanese only character here]?"

I'd like to hear the Japanese saying that.

Well, here's the article on Wikipedia.

It is ambiguous whether or not Mother Brain is the true leader of the Space Pirates. According to Super Metroid's manual, Metroid: Zero Mission's manual, and both official manga, Ridley is the General of the Space Pirates while Mother Brain is just a biological computer which controls Zebes' defenses. However, the instruction manual for the original Metroid game, the manual for Metroid Fusion, the Nintendo Power comic, and the in-game introduction in Super Metroid refer to Mother Brain as the leader of the Space Pirates, with the original Metroid instruction manual going so far as to say that Ridley is actually controlled by Mother Brain. It should be noted however that the original Metroid has been retconned by Metroid: Zero Mission and the Nintendo Power comic is not canon. Metroid Prime confuses the issue even further in the Pirate Data logs by alluding to a High Command that issues orders, including the reconstruction of Ridley himself. One possible interpretation is that, since Mother Brain may have existed on Zebes before the Space Pirates arrived, that she "leads" them in the sense of a guide, leading them to conquest of the planet.
