You rarely, if ever, see a fake boxart with the rating pending icon. And even then, they rarely turn out to be the final boxart. Not saying it's guaranteed to be real - but the fact all of the characters on that box are accurate renders with brand new poses is convincing.
Plus, it's only another couple months until the game's US release. The Q4 release schedules will be complete soon, and usually you start getting the boxart about now.

Nobody is saying the employee made the box, clearly they would have found it on the interweb somewhere. So... they found somebody's fanart and used it as the boxart on their site? Sounds like politely asking to be sued to me.

They do this all the time - using fake boxarts on sites when there is no real boxart. If you can find it originating from anywhere else, I might be inclined to agree with you. But in my experience, when a store's website shows a boxart full of entirely brand-new artwork, it's always been real. EDIT: The same website apparently had this boxart before IGN did.

If that can be confirmed I will absolutely believe this is the Smash box.

If that can be confirmed I will absolutely believe this is the Smash box. Hmm... well, I can't see any actual proof beyond the words of people at a couple of other forums. Shame these sites don't keep track of the dates they upload stuff like this. Anyway, I'm convinced it's real. It's hard to tell exactly from such a small image, but the picture seems to be 3D and with perfect-quality models - something I can't see any fan achieving, especially so soon after some of them were revealed. The only argument I've seen against it is that it doesn't have all of the starting roster on the cover, but neither did the original SSB.

I think a lot of people are nervous to say it's real out of the fear of being burned. I understand, as there have been too many BS rumors floating around.

I Can't find a single other place that uses the image. Besides the atmosphere of the game has become lighter than 64's and Melee's (with the exception of Subspace Emissary) the art doesn't reflect that at all. Are you mad man! It looks very dark. For one, compare it to 64 and Melee's box. They were much brioghter, and 64's more cheery. But, the game's overall feel is to be darker. I think Sakurai wanted that from the begining. I'm ganna say real. The renders are totally new, and has a mor eprofessionally done look to it. Come on. Take a look at the UI If that don't say change I don't know what does. Dark Indeed

Subspace Emissary is the storyline, so as far as I'm concerned, that's all that matters in terms of light/dark. The regular fighting game could not really be considered anything of importance in terms of story, so if the storyline is dark, then the game is dark, IMO.

O RLY?True, But remember you're only using one scene there.

Man... I actually agree somewhat with tveye. Just looking at the character models alone, they're all quite a bit darker than they were in Melee or SSB (except for Kirby or Pikachu). I'd say Brawl is either darker, or equal to Melee. It certainly isn't lighter, with the exception of the menu screen. But then, that's just to match the colour of the Wii menus. But this is still a silly thing to argue about for so long.
