Tei: I still think Falco is coming back. From the looks of it, Sakurai isn't cutting many characters. Even when he made his coment, he never specified how many or who. That's been up to the fans. He even said this in Melee, but didn't. I wouldn't be surprised if Roy and Falco were kept becuase they were so popular (like Jigglypuff). Also remember, Falco as added because of popularity. I also doubt they'd add Krystal and dump Falxco at the same time. It's kind of an importaince of characters. Falco>Krystal so he must be in for her to get in.
Parrothead: For Japanese only xcharacters on the poll, there were some Japan-only FE characters, as well as Takamaru. You forgot those.

Look. The poll... is more or less irrelevant. He only took a small smattering of what he was sent, and went within those and only chose the ones he liked and posted them.
Yes, Takamaru was favored. Yes, Dedede was favored. They are very likely additions, and I would die if they were discluded.
BUT when you start seeing crap suggestions like Kalas and Hammer Brothers up there in the same leagues, the validity starts to dip.
It's a great booster the fact that Ike AND Diddy were top requested characters, and that the Assist Trophies thus far were either suggested characters or trophies from before, but I'm personally just getting tired of the "well they did this on the poll, that on the poll, etc. etc. " argument. It's tired.
That being said, Takamaru would ooze popularity here in the states. If he got a Pit-like redesign... people would be all over him like they were for Marth.
But Stafi? Demiru? I just don't see it. They aren't "western" enough. Takamaru has it; they don't.
Sukapon, on an aside, is just weird enough to work. On the flipside, Mike could work very well because he is SO Western Japan would gobble it up. Ya gotta think about the audience reception here, not just "well they make sense to ME."

I just want to remind you something: -In the original Smash Brothers, Ness wasn´t added because he was a obscure character in America, he made into the roster because he was a popular character in Japan (with the added bonus that Earthbound was Released in America and that he was a HAL character, it was easier to get him in the game than to ask Inteligent Systems for Marth or Rare for Banjo-Kazooie) -In Melee Marth and Roy weren´t added because they were unknown in the rest of the world, they were added because Fire Emblem was hugely popular in Japan (they were even thinking in removing them for the international version ) Ice Climbers were added to represent the early nes games, and Mr. Game and Watch was created to represent Nintendo´s very first system, not because they were obscure. Also, I think that the only reason of why we didn´t got any Rare created characters, was because Nintendo and Rare relationship was beginning to shake, and Sakurai decided to play it safe and include only Rare created but Nintendo owned stuff. That Fourside level feels like it was created as a Perfect Dark level, and at the very last moment it was adapted into Fourside (also Japan got two Perfect Dark items) What I wanted to show you, is that no character has been added just because he was obscure in the previous games, they were added because they were popular enough to be in Smash (at least in Japan). Of course rules applied to chose the roster in one game are broken in the next one (as we have already seen with the inclusion of secundary characters in Melee and third parties in Brawl. Now two special cases: Flint is the only character from Mother 3 that they could ad without spoiling the game, but right now everyone who knows Mother 3 knows that the Main guy is Lucas. also I think that Boney its the only character that is playable every chapter, but I could be wrong. Mike Rogers, its a sad case because I feel in Japan they don´t even remember he existed, lets not talk about Tin Star Also don't forget the semi popular international guys: Pikmin, Ray MK, Little Mac,Someone from Wars series, Duck Hunt Dog. Dont´t you think they got more chances that the Japan only characters (maybe Duck hunt Dog its stretching it a bit)

also I think that Boney its the only character that is playable every chapter, but I could be wrong. No character in MOTHER 3 is playable in all chapters. Mostly because Salsa, the monkey, has a chapter focused entirely on him (the third if I remember correctly).

I agree with almost everything you said, except for our little yellow Stafi. He's a Starfish. A weird cartoon starfish. There's nothing overly Japanesey about him, or his games. In fact, I'm still gobsmacked not one of the games ever got released outside of Japan, considering how ideal they are for a Western audience. Wacky humour, platforming fun... I mean... Kirby and Pokemon have waaaay more Japanesey qualities I SO agree with you about Mike Jones. They'd love this little slice of obscurity for themselves. And of course... TAKAMARU FOR BRAWL! (I can hear it now... "What? Nintendo made a Samurai game?") ;D

On the same wavelength as Mike, I think Mac is a shoe-in. He's international, but he's more or less Western, and I think Japan would dig that more than anything. I mean, their kids are just as crazy about American shows and food as we are about theirs.

It's tired. I see what your saying, but I don't agree 100%. Yeah, in so0me cases, it's not a good scource, but he did add ones he liked. ZSo that's a start. And the number of times they appeard were probobly relevent to how many of them he got. Of course, characters like WW Link, and Bow Wow the chain chomp are probobly up there becuase he found them hilarious. And someone like Lucas, who got a 2, has a good shot. I say the validity drops after 3. 5 and 4s are very likely, as we can see with Diddy and Ike, and some of the 3s are ones we know have a shot, but as you get lower you start to lose the likely hood. But I do agree on the Takamaru thing. I think Lucas and him have the best chances as Japan-only characters. I agree that American fans would love huim. Heck, they love anything with a sword. With a redesign he'll probobly be a hit. I would like to see him. The game he's from (name's to long/Japanese) looks like fun. Please tell me your a profet! Also, if anyone knows, what are the characters who are really popular in Japan. You probobly counln't tell 100%, but I'm sure some info from a Japanese forum would be helpful.

I wish I were a profet, but I'm only a prophet ;p
Anyways, Takamaru and Lucas are pretty much the best options. I still say Sukapon is high up there, if only because of the "wtf" factor. But we'll see...
MIKE AND MAC FOR BRAWL!!!

Tell ya what: you can have Takamaru, Sukapon, Stafi and Mike Jones if I can have Falco, Black Shadow and Dedede . ;D It's a perfect balance of Awesomely Obscure and Awesomely Secondary!
Now if only I could strike this deal with Sakurai...

I'd like to see those cheerleaders from Ouendan! in Assist Trophy form.

You mean playable, right? Cause I heard playable. Ouendan for Japan, Elite Beat Agents for the West, with the others and the various other forms as alt costumes. One is playable, other two follow around in background. Attack with rhythm based attacks that get stronger with correctly timed button presses. So yeah, playable.

Wikipedia doesn't have much to offer in the way of that sort of info. The game was produced by the company iNiS, but whether or not its a property of Nintendo is called into question. iNiS has developed titles for Sony and Microsoft, too, and some of these games come after Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and EBA. So no, I don't think we'll even see the Elite Beat Agents as Assist Trophies, let alone playable characters.
