Update #106: Trophies

What are trophies? These are solid objects that appear as prizes and offer explanations of characters!

You can check out the poses and learn the backgrounds of a variety of characters.



You’re going to get a lot of these, so we’ve added images of them to the list to make them easier to identify.


You can arrange them by series.


And you can line them all up. This can’t be outdoors, can it?

Take a look at these, for example, if you want to learn more about a character you saw in the background in Smash. Or when your interest in a particular character’s back-story has been piqued, and you want to learn more about them.

Having trophies that explain your characters is quite useful.

And, in a bonus mode, you can even create something like this.


Choose several trophies and place them however you like!


You can even change the background. It’s all up to you.

Since we’ve gone to the trouble of gathering all these universes together, I hope you’ll enjoy gaining a deeper understanding of these characters. It’s with that intent that we’re all working so hard.

Ok... what's the banana thing in the last screenshot?

What do you guys think? Did this confirm Dr. Stewart, Slippy and Tingle, or did it UNconfirm them? I think it proves that none of them will be playable. But I can hear the rumors already....

I figured they'd return since stickers were basically artwork taken directly from other games. And this time there will be even more trophies, awesome!

The banana dude is from the NDS game DK: Jungle Climber. He is a banana alien.

This trophy update is quite nice. It's also interesting to see the "cel-shaded Tingle" as a trophy. Also there is the Pikmin Bulblin in that last shot, maybe it is an Assist Trophy.

Most Trophies are what we've seen before, but...

Dr. Stewart from F-Zero makes a trophy appearence.

Slippy's Trophy has his Assault design, which obviously doesn't match with Fox's Trophy, which means Stewart won't match either... Dr. Stewart & Slippy Deconfirmed.

The Cardboard Box makes an appearence as a trophy, which means there are more than just the fighter trophies to the third-party fighters, as the Cardboard Box obviously originates from Metal Gear.

One of the creatures from Pikmin is here, as is an undeniably Cel-Shaded Tingle, could Capt. Olimar and Wind Waker Link be playable?

I noticed that the cel-shaded Tingle did not clash with the realistic characters in Brawl. That's one excuse against a cel-shaded Young Link for Brawl shot down. I always thought that the "but the graphics don't fit!" excuse was lame, even lamer than the "but they never fought before!"

Why did Sakurai have to show the Ooccoo? It is... weird.. and it has... nipples. Are they nipples or are they meant to resemble nipples? If anything, she has to be the second Nintendo female character to sport nipples after that Kid Icarus enemy, what's her name? Siren or something?

Yay! The update also confirms Food as a returning item!

Now, I hope these trophies were the last thing Sakurai and his team made - last time he ran out of time to come up with some original characters so maybe he made characters first then trophies... although I wonder if the stages were the last thing he made seeing how a lot of them have a similar layout as the Battlefield, haha.

I think we should not say the trophies confirm or unconfirm any of these characters. I remember they showed Pit's trophy before the game came out and was disappointed when he is not playable in Melee.

I love the trophies. And it looks like there's been some effort put into their textures as well. This game is now rounding out into a delightfully perfect game!! ;D

I do not think that Sakarai and his team would would have made all of these from scratch some of them were proabbly made or even just borrowed and resized from other game's data and models to just save time. Remember that Anouma (the Zelda guy) said they made models of Ganondorf and Sheik and sent them to Sakarai. Not all of this work is being done by Sakarai and his team other development studio's at Nintendo could be working on them to help free up his Sakarai and his team so they can just work on the other area's of SSBB.

Hopefully, this time around there won't be any trophies left out of the game - I'm looking at you, Tamagon, Helmetless Samus and Mario & Yoshi.

The Samus Unmasked and Mario & Yoshi trophies were only avaliable with that promontion in Japan, did'nt Nintendo give it only to a select bunch. (Or was it everyone who wanted it?) It was not in the game to begin with I think. I think Tamagon will make it, I mean the Devil/Demon made it as an Assist Trophy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the main characters who got passed over the first time.

In SSBM, a lot of the trophies were put together by Creatures (yes, the Pokemon guys). They're credited as such. I'm guessing this hasn't changed. Still... hoping the retro love hasn't come to an end! Where's that SSBB trophy video!! Me want!!

You mean like listing what everything from Super Smash Bros. comes from and then listing every game that Nintendo has ever made?

It sounds like a dream come true. I am not sure if he will exactly put all the Nintendo franchises in Brawl as trophies.

I mean, there are some really obscure games I am not sure Sakurai knows about and there are a lot of Japan-only games that I don't know if he will bother to put them all in.

If he really means what he said about all the Nintendo universes (aka franchises) then I hope we will get to see trophies from arcade games and Virtual Boy games because they are still Nintendo franchises.
