Uhh, I don't think he meant all franchises. He said all these universe, which seems to refer only to all the franchises appearing in the game. If he'd meant every Nintendo franchise, I'm sure he'd have said all the universes.

If he'd meant every Nintendo franchise, I'm sure he'd have said all the universes. Then that would be implying that Captain Olimar is likely playable as there is a Pikmin enemy trophy.

...Why? There were Pikmin trophies in Melee, too. Olimar wasn't playable in that, and the trophies certainly didn't represent every Nintendo franchise.

Sure, that's not what he said, if you wanted to delve into specifics, then by him saying all these universes, then it would only apply to the ones represented in the screenshots, which we know is not true. I'm sure by him saying all these universes, he meant the ones already in the game as trophies. There is a chance that there already is, not all, but a lot of franchises, and I'm sure arcade games and Virtual Boy games have a high chance of geting in.

I only got literal because Arcadenik did. He's setting himself up for a disappointment by believing Sakurai meant every single Nintendo franchise in existance.

I only got literal because Arcadenik did. He's setting himself up for a disappointment by believing Sakurai meant every single Nintendo franchise in existance. Sakurai said "we've gone to the trouble of gathering all these universes together" It is a difficult work to look up for obscure titles so that'd be the trouble he could be referring to. If it is not what he meant, maybe he should word it differently.

It's also difficult to program a video game. I don't think it's possible for the game to represent every Nintendo franchise, let alone likely.

Yeah, unlikely.. I guess the rest could be represented by stickers. Lame, but still.. better than nothing, I guess.

I think Bulborb does build something of a case for Pikmin. After all, in this instance it's an enemy rather than Olimar himself. It's by no means definitive, though.

I noticed that there is no alphabetical order option for the trophies like in Melee. I liked that option.
But I also noticed that there is a "by type" option. I am guessing it means you can order your trophies by "playable characters", "assist trophies", "Pokeball Pokemon", "items", "Subspace-related", etc.

But Pikmin is an established series now. That's like saying since Eggplant Man was in Melee we had Foreman Spike as a character. It's just a well-recognized representative of the series. Olimar would be fantastic, but the trophy indicates nothing.
The only definitives we learned today were that Food is back and that there's even more ways to view your trophies.
Also, the Cardboard Box trophy has Snake's eyes peering out. Maybe it's a "Smash" trophy?

That's not a good example at all, Fliptroopa. Wrecking Crew is a part of the Mario series. He's just another Mario enemy like Goomba and Koopa Troopa. Eggplant Man was in Melee... so that must mean Mario was playable! Oh look, he was!

Eggplant Man was in Melee... so that must mean Mario was playable! Oh look, he was! He's in the vintage character section regardless. So it's discernable by the trophy arrangement that Wrecking Crew just wasn't in with the Mario series. There were three Custom Robo trophies, and did we see any robots from that game? Nope. I'm just trying to say that although it may seem like evidence, we've gotten red herrings before. Balloon Fighter, anyone? The whole internet went crazy over that, and it's all just a silly little rumor.

I never for a second believed Balloon Fighter was supposed to be in Melee. Melee's website (in Japanese) stated that Sakurai debated between Ice Climbers, Balloon Fighter, Bubbles, Urban Champion, and Excitebike before settling on the Ice Climbers to represent the Famicom. If we are going to pull the "Balloon Fighter was supposed to be in Melee" argument, then include Bubbles, Urban Champion, and Excitebike as well.
