LucasThe youth with the psychic powers has appeared—it’s Lucas! He makes his anticipated debut from the Japan-only release MOTHER 3.
While he is timid in nature, he fights splendidly. Is it possible he can surpass even Ness?!

Well, it's good to finally have that mystery solved.
Lucas is in.
Ness, it's been nice knowing you.

My face lit up the moment I saw this update. Then I let out a louder 'hell yes' then the Ice Climbers' update.
His alt colours will be Claus and Fuel. You heard it here firstagain

Great update!
Lucas in the game! And they mention Ness!
The good news about this update is that he is the first (and hopefully not last) Japan-only character! ;D

Yes! I called it! I called it so many times in Nsider! I got flamed by pro-Ness/anti-Lucas people and "everyone must stay/no replacements allowed" fans so many times! Is Boo going to tally this one up in his Sakurai's "ownings" of fanboys? I think this is a wake-up call to these people I mentioned above that when Sakurai says something in his polls, he means it! Now, I never pictured Lucas would be this spectular! He looks so good! He really does! I can't wait to play as this new boy with psychic powers!

It was a LOGICAL step to make MOTHER go forward.
A new era begins.

Forward on what? Mother 3's still stuck on the Game Boy Advance. We aren't GETTING a Translation... I feel gypted that blond-haired, no hat Ness is here. Maybe they can put Mother 1, 2, and 3 on a DS card or something.

When they typed "Japan-only release", they probably made a "¬_¬" face (or so would I have done, just like right now).
Me wants T_T

This update startled me and made me shake my legs. What's really going to startle me and make me shake my legs more is that my next semester in college is about to begin.
The main reason why I decided to name this thread "Update 111: WARNING: NEWCOMER APPROACHING" is that I didn't want to spoil everyone before they would see Lucas. Later on, one of you should rename this thread as "Update #111: Lucas".

Totally agree! It was logical for Mother to go forward. I just don't see why this franchise has to dwell in the past by keeping Ness around. His game is 12 years old.
Its sensible for dead franchises (Kid Icarus, Ice Climber, etc.) to have old characters but its kinda silly to have franchises that are still having new games to this day to have retro characters as playable characters (Geno, Sheik, etc.)
Its no wonder Knuckle Joe ended up as an AT. He's a retro Kirby character from at least one game (Kirby Super Star) that came out over 10 years ago.
And that's my two cents.

However, Sakurai might still add some retro characters for gamers of the previous generation, along with contemporary characters for gamers of today's generation.

..We aren't GETTING a Translation... Well... Starmen.net is still busy with the Mother 3 translation, but they're aiming for a release before december 3rd. Something about Brawl having spoilers. Sure it's not official and it requires emulating, but atleast you can enjoy it english-wise.

Wow, it's almost as if they knew it was my sister's (Satsy's) birthday yesterday and planned this release for the biggest Mother fan I know!
Ness gets a mention... I wonder if that's a good sign we will still be getting clone characters.
Still, this is good news, and I agree with Arcadenik.

Dead franchises (Kid Icarus, Ice Climber, Game & Watch, etc) get retro characters. Franchises that are still making new games in the last five years get contemporary characters (Mario, Link, DK, Ike, Pokemon Trainer, Lucas, etc.) but no retro characters (Ness, Sheik, Geno, etc.) That's what I think is happening here. I could be wrong but I'm not going to hold my breath for Geno's confirmation as a newcomer.

There is also the fact that when Earthbound comes to the VC, everybody who downloads it will be giving a vote of support for Mother 3 to get released outside of Japan. So it is possible for it to come out to the rest of the world. Also I would like to note that we have a roster of 20 characters now. (Excluding ZSS).
