Well we all saw this coming.
Just be happy we all know who he is at least. I imagine alot of Smash Brothers fans out there are scratching their heads right now, perhaps even shaking their fist at the monitors.
The only thing I'm upset about... is I'm not going to recognize any Mother 3 stages or music. : ( At least I know who Lucas is though.

Wow! Fryguy actually agrees with me!  I wonder if it means we are getting clones... The update suggests that Lucas could be better than Ness, as if Lucas is a better clone of Ness like how Dr. Mario is a better clone of Mario..... If we are getting clones, I hope its kept to a minimum. Maybe DK Jr. as DK's clone would be cool... But if we aren't getting clones, that's just as great! |

I might be seeing things but that hexagon thing in Meta-Knight looks familiar...   Though it's a shielding type move instead of an attack. Still, this gets me thinking. It looks like Ike is a lot like Marth, yet his B-moves are very different. Chances are Lucas will have very different B-moves aswell. Like Ness, Lucas doesn't learn PK Fire/Thunder in his game. So either he'll get new moves he actually knows, or he'll borrow moves like Ness. If it's the latter, atleast I can hope for Snake Rope as tether recovery. edit: durrrr it's no hexagon in the gba image. I'm too hyped to think straight I guess |

There is also the fact that when Earthbound comes to the VC, everybody who downloads it will be giving a vote of support for Mother 3 to get released outside of Japan. So it is possible for it to come out to the rest of the world. Also I would like to note that we have a roster of 20 characters now. (Excluding ZSS). That still doesn't help if the Game Boy Advance is a long-dead system by then... Our only real hope is a emulation of the GBA game for the Virtual Console or a Compilation of the Mother Trilogy for DS. I would hope that the success of Sin & Punishment for the Virtual Console would lead into other games hopefully those requiring a bit of translation like the Fire Emblem games for the SNES, and Roy's game on GBA (There's another reason to emulate a few GBA games as WiiWare) or Mothers 1 & 3. Either way, a spot in SSB games doesn't gurentee that your game will come to the US... Like poor Roy's didn't. |

Like poor Roy's didn't. - Yeah I admit with the GBA going on the way out this year (supposedly) it would have a higher chance of going to WiiWare than the DS. If it went to the DS, Nintendo would have to pay for distributon and advertising and all the rest. - That's a good idea with the idea of downloading GBA games that did not do too well. I also think they should do some DS titles too. - S&P had a lot of english in and did not need much translation for it to be sent to the VC. (Has anyone downloaded it yet?) - But Roy's game did come to the US, it's just his father who was in the game. I thought everybody on this site has heard of him? With all the SSBB character dicussion and all. |

I thought everybody on this site has heard of him? With all the SSBB character dicussion and all. I'm no good at recognising obscure, Japan-only characters. The only reason I know who Ness is because he was in SSB! |

Yes, a Mother character for Brawl, finaly!
But the mentioning of Ness is suspicious. I hope that he appears as well as I don't see Lucas a clone of Ness.

Yet another update that proves Sakurai is taking the opportunity to do what he wants (Kirby stuff, story mode, etc.). Next thing you know we'll find out Jigglypuff got axed, and Sigurd replaced Marth.

You have to remember, Europe didn't get a single Earthbound game, and Ness's inclusion didn't leave people scratching their heads and shaking their fists. Once in a while I'd get asked what game he was from by a friend... but it's hardly as if including characters from games someone has never played is going to affect their opinion on this game.
I mean, what if someone had never played a Metroid or StarFox game? Would they get annoyed that Samus and Fox are in over, say, Lucario and Koopa Troopa? Of course not.
So you don't have warm fuzzy nostalgic memories of Lucas? That's no reason to dislike him.
(I'm talking to everyone in general, by the way).

Great update! Lucas in the game! And they mention Ness! The good news about this update is that he is the first (and hopefully not last) Japan-only character! ;D I didn't know Ike was in an english-released game. Which one? |

With Sakurai mentioning Ness, I am pretty sure he will be back. And you know how everybody has been saying that one of the origanal 12 will be removed, well it could be Jiggilypuff. |
