He was actually in Melee, too.... just as a trophy. Therefore he got the shaft again...but better a Poke-assist than a plain trophy, I guess. Still, I'd rather be him in Brawl than just to see him in Brawl.

I expected this slightly as my idea woulda been a clone of Red with a Rocket member or Giovanni, with Meowth and a few others.
As of now... my fav character list of games, the Nintendo parts, has Lyn ahead of Marth as until I play FEDS and know him better I find her more interesting and amazing. But I wasn't disappointed with her being an Assist. Lyn's amazing but I can deal without her in... As Marth's gonna top her eventually in my opinion.
Resetti...I think works too well as an AT to be upset about.
Goroh hurt. My favorite F-Zero racer, and an awesome rival.
I think it all depends on the fanbase, but so far I think I've gotten over Goroh a bit, as long as we get another F-Zero character, I hope.
Anyways, Meowth probably hurt Pokemaniacs but wasn't too bad as they got several playables already, some fanbases only have one, F-Zero.

But am I the only one who noticed that his model is terrible? Like, worse than Piplup and Munchlax? Like, it looks almost like it came straight out of Colosseum, which was straight out of the first Stadium game? No, I noticed it as well. He does look quite...well, poor. I was just happy he was in a Poke Ball again, so I probably didn't think about commenting on it. Maybe it'll get better later on...

The model is bad, but the textures appear to be an improvement. Groudon's model is terrible, too.

Meowth is one of those Pokémon that has been used as a mascot wherever few Pokémon have to appear: - Meowth was also one of the only Kanto Pokémon that were obtainable in Emerald.
- When 2nd generation games hadn't appeared, he used to appear in logos of Pokémon Centers along with Squirtle and Pikachu (a counterpart had Charmander, Pikachu, and Poliwhirl)
- Meowth is also featured in posters of Pokémon Stadium (Japanese Pokémon Stadium 2).
- Meowth also appears in Pokémon Dash.
- Meowth is a playable character in the Mystery Dungeon games, allowing him to become a stereotype of sorts for players.
- The Pokémon cameos in the non-Japanese Game Boy Camera only include Meowth besides the starters, Pikachu and Mew.
- One of the picross in the Pokémon volume of Picross NP is Meowth.
- Meowth is also a symbol of snatching things, as used in mini-game sequences in Stadium 2, and that matched the role of the talking Meowth from the anime. Thief could have been an alternative to the suggestion of Covet.
Before Pokémon Trainer was announced as a selectable character, a playable Meowth could have made even more sense than Charizard, who is very tied to the other Kanto starters and would have pleased only Charizard fans in an unfair manner to Venusaur or Blastoise fans, unlike Meowth. Anyway, it's great that Meowth is back from the PokéBall. But am I the only one who noticed that his model is terrible? Like, worse than Piplup and Munchlax? Like, it looks almost like it came straight out of Colosseum, which was straight out of the first Stadium game? Yeah, I'm not too happy with its model, either. BTW, did anyone here already learn the Japanese name thing?

Meowth's appearance is greatly improved over his original SSB appearance ;D
It really doesn't bother me if Pokemon or Assists have low polygon counts, as they're only gonna be on screen for a couple seconds at best. Of course it would be awesome if everything was really high poly, but sometimes it just doesn't matter.
But I guess if Lakitu or the Excitebikes were low poly to prevent slowdown, everyone would moan about them - rather than now everyone's happy they are so "stylish", despite being..... one polygon. *ahem*

No, I'm still not too happy with those Sprite Assists, but I've learned to accept them as part of the game (it's not 'TEi's Super Smash Bros.,' after all; if it was, Falco would have been a starting character, Gohrorghro would be playable, and there would be a nudie code).
Anyway, like I said before any playable Pokémon in Smash Bros. games so far have either been Rare or One-of-a-Kind. Pikachu, Pichu and Jigglypuff can take a while to hunt down in any main Pokemon game you play (and until DP you needed to breed Pikachu to get a Pichu at all--extra work, that), and Mewtwo, Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard can only be obtained once per savefile. Importance to the games is irrelevant at this point, it's all about which Pokémon are both recognizable and difficult to come by.

Yeah, I still wish Gorghorgrr would've been playable. Wasn't he the second main F-Zero character? I mean since he's Capt. Falcon's rival...
It would've been interesting to see a "Gorghrohg Punch" of some sort...
Anyways, back to Meowth. I see why some of you believe he should've been a character, but Smash Bros has sorta drifted away from the anime.
Pikachu and Jigglypuff were in the first Smash Bros. because the anime was big. But then in Melee, they added Pichu who did not have a large role whatsoever in the anime, and Mewtwo who wasn't in the anime at all (but they both were in movies so...eh).
Brawl seems to have hardly anything to do with the anime now because Pokemon Trainer is in. Not Ash.

Arcadenik, a few things
The anime didn't make Pikachu popular. Actually the other way around. The mascot was chosen by focus groups saying the like Pikachu the most Jigglypuff was also popular before the anime as she didn't appear until after the game was out. It was added being the 2nd most popular pokemon (at least in Japan)

Meowth doesn't even have an awesome song going for him, especially not now that My Music exists, making that redundant anyway. Objection! Go watch "Pokemon Gotta Dance!" Now!

Objection! Go watch "Pokemon Gotta Dance!" Now! Is from the anime, not the games, so likely wouldn't be included either way.
