I don't know if this was posted here already, but the newest finding as far as the World Icon List goes is that they are in Japanese Alphabetical Order. It's a bit odd, but if you use the Romanji names for all the series it works. www.destructoid.com/blogs/ZekeThePlumber/the-smash-dojo-site-urls-show-something-interesting-it-s-a-secret-to-everybody--48504.phtmlSSB6401 - Dairantou Smabura-kun *first because it's the first* 02 - Donkey Kong 03 - Star Fox 04 - Hoshi no Kabi 05 - F-Zero 06 - Metroid 07 - Mother 08 - Pokketu Monsters 09 - Zelda no Densetsu 10 - Super Mario 11 - Yoshi MELEE12 - Fire Emblem 13 - (Game and Watch) 14 - Ice Climbers ^^^ All of these above are NOT in Alphabetical order. But they are in game release order, and strangely enough the new Melee franchises are on their own, technically, in alphabetical order. BRAWL15 - Animal Forest 16 - Made in Wario 17 - Metal Gear 18 - Myth of Light 19 - 20 - Sonikku So in this theory, anything in number 19 has to be between the letters N and S. There's dozens of ideas: Rockman, Pakkuman, Pikmin, Nazo no Murasame (woo!), PC Genjin (double woo!), etc. etc. But this also means that anything AFTER Sonic has to be after the letter S. This is a pretty harsh limit, and the possibilities are a bit harder to think of. Stafi is the only one I can come up with that could feasibly give a fighter. I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but something I was just made aware of today so I thought I'd share it with you guys (who probably already are thinking "been there, seen it, done it. who cares?")

Something like this did come up a while ago, but the person who had made it up at the time used very flawed thinking--since it's organized by the Japanese characters, though, it holds a little more water.
Looking at my game catalogue, a heavy percentage of game titles come after the letter M, but whether or not that yields anything in regards to a playable franchise...I dunno.

I suppose it's not a bad idea to make an official thread for the Icon theory. It has been around since May.
Ah, I remember back when Pit's icon was one of the first revealed.... it was so shocking to find out it was number 18. I was excited.
Then the peices started coming together, and when the Ice Climber icon was revealed to be number 14, is solidified the theory of order that Original Smash, then Melee, then Brawl. Snake's icon being number 17 was a big shocker though, I would have figured 3rd party icons would go after 1st and 2nd.
But as far as order goes... I'm not swearing by alphabetical order. The first group... the original 11 icons.... they aren't in any order at all... and seem to be just placed randomly. (Game order?! Are you NUTS?!)
It could actually be that the other groups are ordered like that by coincidence... though it does make sense and there are alot of possible icons that could go in the mysterious slot 19.... I'm not going to consider it evidence because there is still doubt. That doubt being: Why would the second and third groups be in alphabetical order and not the first group?

I have seen this before, the good thing, its that we are not getting any Squarenix characters ;D. As Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Kingdom Hearts all come before "M" (A little bit sad for Chono and the original Dragon Quest Chars, but its a small price to pay to keep Brawl free of Sephiroth, Cloud and Sora) but this also kills several potential franchises: -Joy Mech Fight -Custom Robot -Chibi Robo (or does this have other name in Japan) -Ballon Fight -Match Rider -Clu clu land -Duck Hunt Also we can only have Panepon, Pikmin, Rockman or Takamaru as all fit in number 19 but not two of those. Finally, after Sonic we can have: -Star Tropics (YES!) -Street Fighter -Tin Star (in a million years) -Tomato Adventure (YES!) -Wars (unless its franchise name its famicom wars) (DOUBLE YES!) -and many others which I don't know Some other franchises we can count out this way, even if their probabilities were close to zero are: -Eternal Darkness -Banjo-Kazooie -Halo

You guys do realise that Myth of Light doesn't fit there, right? Because its the English translation of the Japanese name - so we're supposed to be ordering things by the game it was introduced in, then by the Englsih spelling of the Englsih translation of the Japanese name? Yeah, that makes sense.

When the hell were the franchises premiering in Smash 64 in order of game release?
Seriously, to put it blunt, don't rely on the icon theory. It's a load of bull when it comes to supposed alphabetical pattern. The only pattern there is 1-11 being series premiering in the first game, 12-14 premiering in Melee, and the others premiering in Brawl. That's all there really is to it when it comes to patterns.

Yeah, that makes sense. Kid Icarus is called "Hikari Shinwa" in Japan and Animal Forest is really "Dobutso no Mori." But, considering Engrish names used for most of the franchises, I wouldn't discredit the use of "Myth of Light." And AC remains first regardless. Also, the by "game order" I meant SSB64 vs Melee. Yeesh. Not year of release And I'm just pointing out the interesting theory here. I'm not like.. throwing my undying support behind it or anything.

So.... stages get icons.
Doesn't mean there has to be a character for that icon. Because WTF would use the DS icon? Seriously... I don't think we'll see an animal crossing character now.
So weird...

If I were the guy that manages the website project and knew about the countless message boards discussing these URLs, I'd introduce negative numbers to frustrate any prediction, just for fun ^_^
Maybe Pikmin is #19.

Can you fix the link please, as I'm getting a '404 Not found' error message. And can someone tell me what is the 'Myth of Light' series? I've never heard of it.

Just to alleviate any frustrations... Japanese alphabetical order is not the same as our own. So let us LEARN AND PLAY!!
First come the words that begin with vowels (A, I, U, E, O) Then the K/G words Then the S/Z/J words Then the T/D words Then the N words Then the H/F/B/P words Then the M words The the Y words Then the R words Then the W words
So... SSB64: Dairantou Smash Brothers, Donkey Kong, Star Fox....
Oh wait... they're already out of order. THEORY DEBUNKED! ;D

Nevertheless, it's still in game order. (SSB64, SSBM. SSBB) So this proves Game & Watch will at least have a symbol in the game. Also, 21 is not the Japananese Touch! Generation symbol. It looks like this.

Wow... That sounds just about right... Which sucks. Looks like we will only get 21-22 franchises... What comes after T now that Touch! Generation got its own icon?
Uniracers? Urban Champion? Teleroboxer? Tomato Adventure?
Looks like we aren't getting playable characters from Nazo no Murasame Jou, Mole Mania, Panel de Pon, Duck Hunt, etc.
