I don't understand why people were so strongly against Sonic being in. It can't be about the 3rd-party thing, because we already had Snake... The only other explainations I can come to is that you guys just wanted to spite the people who wanted him, or you just... have an irrational hatred of him left over from the 90's. There aren't any characters I'm against being in. Even Final Fantasy's Cloud, who I detest on principle, would be welcome to me if Sakurai thinks he'll work. The guy is yet to make a game I didn't adore in pretty much every possible way, so I trust him unconditionally at this point.

The reason I didn't want Sonic in was because furries think he's the best hobo ever and write horrible fanfiction about him. But the whole springboard and genesis sound effect thing made me like him in the end. e: nvm useless starfox bitching was here

The reason I didn't want Sonic in was because furries think he's the best hobo ever and write horrible fanfiction about him. Same is true of Fox McCloud, y'know. Even moreso than Sonic, since Fox is more biologically proportioned and (presumably) equipped, and open to the dirty portions of the human mind. He just doesn't have as much fan fiction, being considerably less popular. But, let's not turn this into another debate about whether or not Sonic should be in.

I didn't really want Sonic in largely because I didn't care for any of his recent games, and I sport a massive bitterness streak against SEGA. Also, there are a lot of Sonic fans that are absolutely batshit crazy. Which is not to say there aren't Nintendo fans with the same qualifications, mind, I just happen to be more buried with the former breed due to my past liking of the series.
As far as the furry thing goes, though, in my mind Fox was not a "furry" until Krystal came along. Krystal is "a hideous furry," and was introduced as sex appeal; before her, Star Fox characters weren't blatantly selling their sexiness. They may be anthropomorphic foxes, falcons, bunnies and frogs, but they don't fit the bill of disgust necessary to be true "furries." Since Krystal, though, people-who-call-themselves-furries view Star Fox characters in general in a much different light, fucking up the whole thing and ruining it for people like me who hates "furries" but can find hotness in "anthros."
It's a very fine line, if you understand what I'm getting at.

I'm afraid... I'm afraid you've gone mad, and I will have to kill you. Seriously.
I only know what you mean so far as never really considering the original Star Fox team to be "furries" - any more than I consider Splinter and the Turtles to be furries.
But now that poorly-dressed Krystal has joined the team, and Fox's head has been redesigned to look like a bellend (even in precious Smash!)... I dunno... I think we're fighting a losing battle.

It's weird though, quite few people actually want Krystal to show up with her staff and skirt and shit, but she'd be in goofy Starfox Command style like Fox. Atleast the Command version wears more than 2 tribal lioncloth pieces. I'd rather have Falco though.

Sorry, I'll chop it down so it makes sense and there's no rambling involved: There was once a point in my life where I could fantasize about Falco and not have a part of my mind thinking "Holy shit I want to fuck a bird," and then coming away feeling slightly disgusted with myself afterwards.

Sad to say, anything I was totally against in Brawl, if it actually SHOWED up turned out rather cool. Red, I didn't want, but since he uses POKEMON, it's actually kinda cool. Sonic, I wasn't actively hoping for despite being a Sonic fan from the Genesis days, as well as being a SNES fan, but when he came... it was like he walked out of Sonic Adventure 2, the last truely good console Sonic game. About the only thing I'm TRUELY disappointed with now, is that Ness might not be in Brawl.

I have been pleasantly surprised from the get-go. This game's size and depth has amazed me, and the amount of unlockable content has me wrapped up in collectable heaven. I'd like Capt. Falcon to pop up (and soon!), but otherwise it's all great with me.

I can talk about how nasty the whole Starfox situation is all day.... but I'll keep it simple this time.
Krystal stands a chance in Smash Brothers, and is wanted in by alot of people... even more than Falco and wolf.
This annoys the crap out of me. Why do they want her in? For nasty reasons. I understand there's a little something called "RULE 34" out there on the net... but Krystal's inclusion on the team seemed only to appeal to that.... and it sucks too because since then the games havent' been as good as Starfox 64.
Sonic fans are bad. Hell.... they're the worst. But at least Sonic himself is ok with me. He wasn't designed for that purpose. Maybe one or two of his friends were... (that gross fucking bat is even worse than Krystal I'm affraid)... but I can rest easy knowing she doesn't stand a chance in Smash Brothers. Tails is another story... but I consider Tails to be just an innocent victim.
Krystal was made... to appeal to furries. And they bit. Like pedos to Bridget.... they took the bait. If she gets in... and Falco doesn't.... Tei won't be the only one seriously pissed off... not at Sakurai, not at Sora, not at Nintendo... BUT AT HUMANITY.

To hell with Krystal. Sakurai won't do it, no chance. I doubt Falco's getting replaced. Peppy should defently be in, if nothing else as a background part in SSE.

Don't worry Tei... people might think Krystal is more likely, but I don't think anyone on these forums actually thinks she should be in Brawl I know I would go mad! Possibly kill a little bit too!

I kinda actually want Krystal in the game >.> She's a new female fighter, staff fighting could be really cool, and Star Fox needs more loving. But the whole furry thing I totally agree with you guys on, and it's disappointing that such a strange obsession has started to permeate gamedom.
Star Fox, the Ninja Turtles, and even Sonic back in the day, to me, were no different than Mickey or Bugs from the days of old. They're just cartoons that happen to be animals. Whatever.
But then the internet brought together people with the weirdest fetishes (and not just furries), and we start getting folks who think Sonic fucking Tails might be kinda hot. And it spreads and spreads, and soon the whole internet has gone batshit crazy. That's why I was against Sonic. His games became fanboy fests where idiots with their hands permanently attached to their dongs and their asses stuck to their chairs would ogle the "badass" and "hot" characters that were in the games, and totally miss what matters: gameplay.
Krystal wasn't necessarily added for the furries, I don't think. Rare was weird, but not that weird. But she has become that, over time. And in Assault and Command it is definitely apparent. At least in Adventures you could tell she was meant to be a fox and although she was scantily clad she at least wasn't blatantly designed to be seductive. In Assault and esp. Command, however, she became more humanoid and gets that weird furry look that the Star Fox characters really had lacked before hand. It's a shame but it's reality. It's an easy way to sell games, or at least garner interest. Why else would they keep putting Rouge and Amy Rose in every goddamn Sonic game of the past 10 years? Or start putting catpeople and stuff like that in Final Fantasy games?
At least this has yet to permeate the happy go-lucky worlds of Mario and Zelda. Midna was awful close, though, and if you search Birdo on DeviantArt you seem some of the sickest shit I have seen in my life (and I'm a curious guy).
All in all... uh.... Yeah. Sonic was bad to me for those reasons, but I also want Krystal for different reasons (which wasn't my original point, but eh). So it's not really black and white, but more of a gray area. Because now that Sonic is in, there's really no references to the lamer, furrier side of things. It's just good old classic Sonic, the way it should be.

It's at this point that I'd like to express that not all Sonic fans are bad. My beef, in particular, are with the craziest of the lot--but I have friends who are Sonic fans (and are not crazy), and they're pretty cool. Mario, Zelda, (especially) Star Fox all have their lunatic fanboys also, so they aren't mutually exclusive. (Again, this is mostly for Kirbychu who is about the most level-headed and awesome Sonic fan I know, and any others on this MB. Don't want y'all to feel alienated by the current discussion.)
And Teev, you bring up a lot of good points, particularly the last paragraph. Sonic is mostly based on old-school, Genesis-era stuff, which is where the heart of the series lies, so Sakurai knows what's going on.
