Toad could have had all the throwing items from SMB2 that aren't Vegetables. He could've also used that hammer from Duel Mode in Mario Party 3. It would've also been funny to see him headbutting other fighters with his mushroom cap as Smash attacks.

I wanted: Wario ;D Pit ;D Sami (Advance Wars) Olimar Flint and I dreamed for Mike Jones Jill ;D and I hated Snake but so far I'm happy with what Sakurai has given us (and Lucas almost makes it for Flint) If Sakurai gives me Sami, there would be no complains from me (even with snake in the game)

Sorry Arcadenik, but I'm 100% with Kirbychu on this. Duck Hunt Dog, as well as many other character were pointless. Sure, you could make moves for them, but why make moves for them when you can work with a character that's not a stretch and is more popular.
Meowth, Nook and DHD were all choices I knew would never happen as playable. I expected Lyn to miss the boat as well. There are just characters with priority over them.
Also, I do believe Olimar will be playable.

I wanted MORE KIRBY. Specifially Meta-Knight and Dedede. Look like I win this round! I wanted Ice Climbers to return.... WIN! I wanted Sonic to be one of the other 3rd parties.... win. I wanted more villains.... so far they haven't been disproven, but they might be bosses. That would be just as good. Specifically, I wanted Vaati, Wolf, Pokey, K. Rool and of course Ridley. I wanted Wario in ever since the first game. And with his own identitiy? Perfect! I do not want Krystal, Lip, Waluigi, Daisy or Toad. I didn't want Dr. Mario, Pichu or Roy to return.
I wanted Samurai Goroh, little mac, AND Lyn to be playable. Lyn would have been a great female character.... to stop the crying but oh well. Goroh is a real shame though. They're still IN the game though... so I can't complain.

WINS (lots of my wishes came true...) -I've wanted Wario ever since Melee. -I wanted Dedede. -I really wanted Diddy. -I wanted the Ice Climbers to return. -I wanted to be able to play with the Gamecube controller. -I wanted an epic, awesometacularriffic Adventure Mode. -I wanted this Adventure Mode to have a co-op option. (me and my younger brother love co-op stuff AND Smash Bros.) -I wanted Trophies to return. -I wanted Petey Piranha to show up somewhere. (what? I love that guy...) -I wanted improved Camera, Special and Home-Run Contest modes. -I wanted an amazingly awesome and massive soundtrack, drawing from the best of all across Nintendo's history. -I wanted a wacky Wario Ware stage. -I wanted some kind of item for summoning non-Pokemon characters, but NEVER expected it to happen. I was pleasantly surprised. TENTATIVE-I want King K. Rool. Playable. -I want Ridley to show up somewhere. -I want Pikmin representation, whether it be playable Olimar, a stage or a Pikmin item. -I want a Bowser's Castle stage. -I want Paper Mario series representation, aside from a single trophy. -I want Wind Waker representation; it's among my favorite Zelda games, and deserves some of the spotlight. TP can't hog all the glory here... -I want Luigi and Captain Falcon to return. -I do NOT want Dr. Mario, Pichu or Roy to return. -I want to see the Evil Hands show up somewhere. -Speaking of them, I want Classic Mode to return. LOSE-I did NOT want Sonic. (I can deal with it, though.) You can tell I'm very happy with this game...

All I really wanted in Melee that I did not get was Pit to be playable. I got that int he first preview, so I've seen everything else as icing on top of the cake. So even in the things I did not get, I haven't been disappointed.
I did want (and got): -Pit -Dedede -Ice Climbers to return -A Devil World reference of any kind in the English version (yay Devil!)
I did want (and didn't get): -Samurai Goroh and Little Mac as fighters, but I am quite content with assist trophies.
I do want: -Mr. Game & Watch to return -Dr. Mario to return because I played him more than Mario or Luigi, and liked him a lot better -I want Ridley, Mach Rider, Mike Jones, and Takamaru (I played the game over a year ago, thought he would be an awesome SSB character... didn't know anyone else knew of him until I came to NinDB) in the game, preferably as fighters, but boss or assist trophies would be fine... regular trophies would be fine for them (except Ridley) -I'm entrigued by the idea of Geno, but I'm not holding my breath
I did not want: -Sonic, mainly because I felt that if he were a character his moves would be based more on his newer (crappier) games, and not on the Genesis ones, but Sakurai seems to have struck a nice mix between new and retro, so I'm digging Sonic as a character now.

Really now this game hasn't let me down yet. With characters like Lucas and King Dedede I'm all set character-wise. Though it would be awesome if G&W returns (probably) and they decided to stick Takamaru or Sukapon (cough) in the playable roster. Also Muddy Mole and Bubbles but then I'm just joking myself.
Only gripe so far is that the terrains in stages released at this point are usually kinda dull and symmetric. Except New Pork City, but that's just a bunch of platforms floating in front of a Mother themed background... Where are the obstacle/hill stages like Temple or Kraid's stage?
I blame Pokemon Trainer.

I think as soon as Snake was confirmed, I knew we were going to get a few third party characters in the game, and so long as we didn't end up with a poor showing of new Nintendo characters, I was glad to see it happen. As far as playable characters go, I have been pleasantly surprised by a lot of them. From Melee I wanted to see Pit and Wario playable, and they were both confirmed right off the bat. Solid Snake was a big surprise, and led me to wish for a handful of third party characters as well - namely Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man. We have one of them so far! Since then, I wanted to see Takamaru and Sukapon, both of whom haven't been mentioned yet, despite both being in the Smash poll. I am keeping my fingers crossed for playable Takamaru, but I suspect Sukapon may be nothing more than an Assist. So long as he gets in somehow, I don't mind I wanted Dr. Mario, Pichu, Young Link and Roy to be removed, Ganondorf, Falco and Luigi to be improved and differentiated from their "partner" characters, and for pretty much everyone else to return. I did want to see Lucas, but I didn't want him to replace Ness (something I'm still confident will be true). But that's pretty much it. I wanted to be surprised, so I had no major hopes for playable characters. And to be honest, even if Takamaru and Sukapon aren't in the game at all, I won't be angry. I just hope they are, while hope is still riding high

Mr. Game & Watch and Ice Climbers were a scretch and they weren't that popular over here in North America, maybe in Japan, but not here. And their movesets and characteristics made them unique and original and retained elements from their original games.
DHD would have retained elements from Duck Hunt. Shooting with the Zapper Light Gun (neutral special) is how you play the game. Throwing clay pigeons (side special) came from the Clay Shooting mode. Ride on the duck's back and fly away (up special) is loosely based off ducks flying away after you missed them. Hiding behind a bush and counterattack when someone hits the bush (down special) is loosely based off the dog hiding behind the bushes.
Ice Climbers's moves were based off the original game. Shooting ice blocks (neutral special) is loosely based off Topis pushing ice blocks around. Spinning and swinging hammers together (side special) came out of nowhere but still made sense somehow. Throwing your partner and being pulled with a rope (up special) came out of nowhere but still made sense seeing how you use ropes to climb mountains and it might be based off Diddy and Dixie throwing each other in DKC2. Breathing snow (down special) came out of nowhere but still made sense seeing its still related to ice and snow.
Even if DHD's moves and how he's teamed up with the duck like Banjo-Kazooie seem like a stretch, they still are centered around Duck Hunt. Quirky oddballs like Fox, Captain Falcon, Peach, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch, Pokemon Trainer, and even Jigglypuff make SSB more interesting because they don't look like fighting material yet they still work.
That's why I absolutely hate that "but they never fought!" argument to deny characters for Smash.

But the problem is that it's loosely based off the game, as in there is nothing really taken from the game, it just get's close. Sakurai chose the IC because they were unique. He felt many of the Famicon characters would not have made good fighters and instead opted for them [Ice Climbers].

What's wrong with being "loosely based"? Ice Climbers' specials are loosly based off the game, too. I listed them in my post above.
Also, Captain Falcon never fought before SSB64. So what did Sakurai do? He came up with all these specials very loosely based on the elements of F-Zero and Captain Falcon's own name.
Neutral special - he charges and punches as a flaming falcon appears from his arm (cars take time after igniting before they go)
Side special - he dashes and uppercuts in a flaming trail (fast cars leave flaming trails)
Up special - he explodes his opponents (cars explode when they crash)
Down special - he dive-kicks and a flaming falcon appears from his leg

Yeah, but he's also a bountry hunter, not a dog that all it does is laugh at you. Ice Climbers at least had hammers to attacks with. How can DHD attack. He's a dog. Boney would be a better character then DHD. Least he actually fought. In order to make it work, it would be a stretch, and a pretty big one. You can justify Fox and Capt. Falcon fighting, but DHD, not so much. Why even waste time on a character no one is interested in.

Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter and all he does is race cars. Duck Hunt Dog is a hunting dog and all he does is laugh. Your point?
If we are going to use Captain Falcon's background as a bounty hunter as a base for his moveset, then why not use Duck Hunt Dog's experience as a hunting dog as a base for his moveset?
What do hunting dogs do? They hunt animals. They pounce and maul animals. And his chain leash could have been used to grab opponents and to tether recover. Quite a stretch, I know, but still plausible seeing how that's what we would have expected from a cartoon dog who hunts ducks.
And again you are using that "but they never fought!" argument against a character. That argument died a long time ago when Captain Falcon and Fox were playable in SSB64.
Why waste time on a character "no one" is interested in? Such a character would be intriguing. I remember before Pokemon Trainer were confirmed, the majority were not interested in Red. And now the majority are intrigued with him because of his unusual method of fighting. Same with Mr. Game & Watch. Same with Ice Climbers. Same with Zelda / Sheik.

You know that 'Characters never fought' argument using Fox and Capt. Falcon is pretty wrong in my opinion, cause they messed up people, just not outside their machines. Fox shot down countless of planes and the Captain smashed countless of racers into oblivion with his Blue Falcon. Ofcourse there's Game & Watch kicking butt with minigame skills, so the argument still works.
Also there are plenty of people who want Duckhunt Dog playable. Most of these hang out at Gamefaqs and make up lousy movesets though. I don't see him making a great fighter, but one awesome instantly recognisable Assist Trophy that's just as useful as Goldeen.

That's just it. We've already had this discussion. Captain Falcon and Fox have back-stories. They are action characters removed from the action and dropped into cars/spaceships, etc. But they are a bounty hunter and a mercenary respectively.
And the Ice Climbers argument doesn't hold ground. Sure, they needed a few moves bolted on to make sure they were viable Smash fighters... name me one Smash character who didn't? Don't just include special moves. Every character has had moves invented for them. Some have more action moves than others inspired by their games. But what about Donkey Kong? Ground slap? Sure. Punching? Erm... DK64 I guess (which wasn't actually out when SSB was released). Spinning Kong? What? Headbutt?! Hell, DK has moves from his games, but he doesn't actually use any of them.
The Ice Climbers are... ice climbers. They have climbing moves and they have ice moves. And bonus! They carry mallets, so they have mallet moves. Some creative license went into them, but the moves make sense.
Now take a character who has never done anything but point and laugh. You could give him attacks, sure. But they wouldn't have anything to do with that character. Anything at all! There's creative license based on something, and there's throwing a load of made-up stuff together just to have an unsuitable character in a playable slot. Give me a suitable character any day.
That Donkey Kong thing has wound me up now. What is WITH his attacks!?
