Warning! Rant approaching!
Dammit guys! Why all the complaining about characters? First people complained about Snake. Then there were the Sonic haters. And now the target is on Krystal!
Listen people, you may have points you think are valid, but most are not. All I hear is constant gonzoing and now I'm saying something about it.
Let's start from the beginning.
Snake was announced which shocked everyone who saw that video at E3 or wherever you first saw it. "Is this a joke?" people asked. No. It's not. A lot of people were very excited to see him, I was one! But then there were the people who said "Sakurai is being unfair. Why would he do this? After all, Smash Bros is for Nintendo characters. I don't want a game with a character shown on a Playstation console!"
That's nothing though compared to Sonic. While about 25% of the fans refused to accept Snake, a large amount of (maybe) 50% rejected Sonic! That's half, for people who don't understand percentages. Why? Because his recent games sucked? Because he's always been a rival to Mario? I don't know.
Then we have Krystal. I admit, it's a little weird seeing how she's designed, but I doubt it was intentional to make her a character that depraved furcigarettes would make out to be a, well...you know. Answer me this though. How many females are there in the Starfox series? I count zero, unless I'm mistaken. Every series needs a female role, and it happened to be a fox (I think), like Fox.
It's a video game. It's nothing to whine about. Just accept the character and move on. I had no idea who Lucas was, or even what he looked like until he was shown, and I accepted him because I am a fan of Smash Bros, and any character Sakurai decides to throw out at us, I will also accept and play as regularly.
I hope my views will not be taken out of context, and in offense. I am voicing my opinion, and I hope others can expand on it, and enlighten me. [/rant]

Finally someone had to say it. Great rant TV Ness, great rant.
I agree with what you said about people not liking certain characters in the game. Just deal with character/s being in the game and move on. Sakarai is not designing your SSBB, he is designing his SSBB and he is putting in and removing a few characters that work for the game itself. We should at least be happy he gave us AT's.

I, for one, am far too happy with everything else in this game to be upset about ANYTHING. Admittedly, I was a little upset about Sonic when I first saw him, but that quickly went away. The good stuff just overshadows the bad stuff with this game, for me.

I wonder how many people whining about Krystal right now told other people to quit whining about Sonic a couple weeks ago.

Super Smash Bros. is a game series you shouldn't expect will have everything you want the way you want (not even the way it should be, as it's made by humans!). You have to be glad a crossover exists and that it gathers so many universes in such a fun way. IMO, if you think people complain for things they shouldn't, then our task is make them realize they're wrong in a convincing way and not let ignorance reign. But on the other hand, if you don't let them speak their minds or hearts at all, it would be boring. BTW, I thought most people did like Sonic . I'm sure casual gamers will love that.

Only thing I'm upset about is Little Mac AT. The characters so far have been great, even Snake.

Star Fox officially has...*counts* four female characters, one to stand opposite each member of the original team. Krystal is the most predominant (Fox). Katt Monroe has been around since Star Fox 64 (Falco). Command introduced Peppy's daughter, Lucy, and Slippy's fiance, Amanda.
Like I said in another topic, though, I won't complain about Krystal ever again so long as Falco gets in as a player character. I don't like her because she's a shallow character, blatant fanservice, "a hideous furry" and somehow more popular than Falco; so I'd be slightly annoyed if a character with so few redeeming qualities got in over one who is, in general, much more interesting. Oh, and Krystal also has the whole staff thing going for her while Falco's moves would have to be made from scratch. That's also working against Falco's favor.
Color me worried. Falco's my favorite video game character ever, more than Count Bleck, more than Cutman. And it's not like people who are let down by Gohroghor, Mac, Meowth or Lyn; they never had anything to begin with. Falco getting cut from the playable roster would be such a severe cocktease.
Of course no matter what happens I will buy and enjoy this game, and if Falco isn't in, I'll find a new main character to play as (Captain Falcon is gonna come back, after all, and he was my second best--and I'm sure I could get a hang of Dedede, Wario, Meta Knight or Pokémon Trainer). I'd be a dumbass to say otherwise. But right now I reserve my right to worry. If you don't want me to complain so much, well, I'm sorry. My fandoms are all kind of dead or maimed right now, and Smash is one of the few safe havens I have left for liking things without it being screwed up.

And don't forget about this: The cancelled Star Fox 2 for the SNES would have been the first Star Fox title to star female characters if it was released. Miyu was changed to Katt Monroe, while Fay was changed to Bill Grey.

Krystal dressed tribal style would be better by FAR in my mind than her skintight spacesuit. That's way too close for Zamus, for one, but also a bit more suggestive. At least the tribal thing highlights her origins.

Would be weird seeing blocky big facy Krystal in a skimpy tribal outfit though.
Anyway I think Snake and Sonic are awesome additions (since they were announced), but I guess I couldn't stop bitching about Krystal so sorry 'bout that.

I like some characters and I don't like others. I love characters who break the mould and do something new (or at least did something new back in the day) - which is why I love most of Nintendo's mascots and the Smash roster.
I mean look at them... even Mario, the company mascot, is a fat, ugly plumber with a bushy moustache. Link was one of the first successful fantasy characters in videogames, Wario is just... gross, and even Samus was one of the first videogame heroines (even if people didn't know it at the time).
Snake is unique amongst action characters in both games and film by being slightly surrealist, and Sonic, to be fair, is a bizarre creation. A fast, blue hedgehog, you say?
Then, of course, I love Tingle and Petey Piranha (vomiting fly traps FTW!) The entire cast of WarioWare, and so on. Unique and interesting characters who break the mould. It's one of Nintendo's specialities, and why they get such a following.
Krystal? She's a furry fanservice, designed to look like a million other "sexy" skimpily-dressed foxes doodled by nerdy teenagers with a fixation on bestiality, and thrown headfirst into the Star Fox series by a poor decision on Nintendo's part. She did not provide the series with anything other than a female presence (and even then, the original females from cancelled Star Fox 2 looked a lot better designed). And funnily enough, having a female in the game - a female fox - does not do anything unless she adds something to the plot, or the characters.... she's nothing.
I wonder if this is why Ike was one of the least-used characters at E For All... he isn't weird enough...

If Duck Hunt Dog was confirmed to be playable, I bet a lot of people will be complaining about him. But fortunately that may not happen.
And the only characters I am dead against being playable in Brawl are third-party characters. SSB games are about Nintendo characters fighting each other, NOT about Nintendo and non-Nintendo characters fighting each other.
And I also find it hypocritical that these same people want Jigglypuff to stay because its "traditional" that we unlock her first yet they want to break the "tradition" by having third-party characters in Smash. SSB games are traditionally pure Nintendo (that means first and second parties).
Sometimes I think Sonic and Snake will be the only third-party characters in Brawl. Sonic only got in because he's the most-wanted character and as a gimmick (Mario vs. Sonic). Snake only got in because Kojima "practically begged" Sakurai. What's this? Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Kojima's Edition?
Mega Man, Pac-Man, etc. don't have these advantages Snake and Sonic did. No one is begging Sakurai to put them in. They are not rabidly wanted like Sonic is.

@fry:Well, Krystal was pretty much the plotline of Command. Tei the Spiffy: Falco is getting in. Don't ask for my source (seriously, I think he's probably going to be in).
