Probably, and for the better, the latter. Yoshi, DK and Kirby all got classic stages in Melee, yet also got two original stages each...

Flip! I'm ashamed in you! Of course this is the second Zelda stage shown, but that doesn't make it the second. Confused? Let me elaborate.
The update was called Melee Stages, not Temple. Therefore there are more. And Mario had 4 stages in Melee, so what makes Zelda not eligable for getting more original stages?

I'll bet each franchise gets two or three stages each, with one Melee stage in addition. Some franchises may be exempt though, like Ice Climbers for example.

I'm just becoming more cynical, to be honest, with the past weeks of updates. With so much content, we can't take it all for granted!

I just hope they don't get lazy and bung in all the previous stages in Brawl, for the sake of it. I welcome this addition, but I don't want original stages to be abandoned in favour of stages that have already featured previously.

I'd like to see a mix of stages from SSB and SSBM, where those stages are not merely copies of ones that already exist. The SSBM N64 stages annoyed me, as all three had also pretty much been remade for SSBM anyway.
A handful of SSB stages, a handful of SSBM stages... I'd love it if they were remade as well! But they may be asking too much ;D
But I wouldn't want to see Sector Z from SSB and Corneria from SSBM, nor would I want to see (again) Yoshi's Story x2, Dream Land x2 and so on...

Something interesting about this update that I keep mulling over...
I assumed from the beginning that this meant they were actually rebuilding the stages from scrap, and I still do. What's interesting about this, though, is that the sprite-heavy, low-poly stages from SSB64 could be rebuilt from the ground up to look contemporary and not as...ten-years-old.
I severely hope this is the case, though, because I have one huge issue with Melee's N64 stages--they were too friggin' big. Not in the same way that Sector Z, Temple and New Pork City are, though; in SSB64, the stages were an appropriate and playable size, but the character models in Melee must have been smaller. OR the stages were larger. Either way, it was difficult to play the N64 stages in Melee because part of the level itself was always off-screen, and it wasn't meant to play that way. This is especially a problem with Yoshi's Story N64, which was a very tall level to begin with in SSB.
Anyway, there are a few stages in my opinion that should be overlooked entirely so far as return stages are concerned:
Any SSB stages that were in Melee: We've already had two Whispy Woods stages and two Yoshi's Stories...we don't need 'em again. N64 Kongo Jungle was actually pretty cool, but it's already come back once and doesn't need to overstay its welcome.
Any Star Fox Level: Seriously. The Great Fox has been done to death. No more, please!
Pokémon Stadium: Because we already have Stadium 2.

The characters in Melee may have been smaller, but the stages themselves (not the n64 ones) were even smaller-er. The scale was way off. Even if the characters aren't in scale with each other, they could at least make the stages in scale with their respective characters (like how the pipe in Yoshi's Island II was exactly Mario-sized) . I'd also really like to have a Great Fox stage again just so we can see it as big as it was in Sector Z once more.
As for Whispy Woods, I'd rather they give us a different kind of Green Greens or maybe a Bubbly Clouds or even a Mt. Dedede and make Whispy himself a boss in tSsE, using the same screen setup as in KDL.

You know what I noticed, there were stage clones as well as character clones. Go figure.

I would rule out Melee Brinstar, but I really loved the level design for N64 Brinstar. The rising acid/lava may be a beaten-to-death gimmick, but I'd forgive Sakurai if he brought the N64 Brinstar stage back.
Just as long as we get a Metroid Prime level. I'm starting to think either Phazon Mines (MP1) or Phaaze (MP3) would work best, since Phazon is the driving plot device for the trilogy...

In my once more cynical opinion, there will be little to no Prime influences in the game beyond Samus's fancy shmancy new look, logo, and backstory (and I guess the Dark Suit costume). I can't picture Sakurai pouring too much emphasis on a Western "franchise," esp. when the Japanese are bigger fans of the 2D titles. I can see ATs like Weevil and crap, but I definitely don't see any stages from the Prime games. Nope. (not to say I don't want Chozo Ruins...) For that matter, I have the least optimism we'll even see a Galaxy themed stage.

Norfair was cool and all, but I'd like to see something Metroid that is from a different place then lava level. Fusion level is OK by me.
