I think I have distracted this topic enough, but I want to say a last few things.
I have been yammering on like a baffon for two reasons: Principle and Forsight.
The principle of the matter is that it the punishment doesn't fit the crime. While it may be a rule that NinDB has, it would receive a good "huh?" on any other. It is part of why I call it minor. The golden rules of any MB are no flaming, no trolling, and no spamming. Any and all message boards will abide by those rules (unless it's a MB build around one of those like some Flaming MB, and 4chan doesn't count). List is one specifically to this MB. Yeah, it makes sense and I agree with it, but wouldn't a good "Hey, add explanations. We don't like list". This solves so any problems. Identifies the problem. Fixes it. Teaches the members what was wrong. Allows discussion to move smoothly. This identified the problem and fixed it, but caused other problems.
It's not right to delete post becuase they are spoilers or are list. It seems to take away. Also, it is also wrong to edit someone's name and sig becuase they did something wrong. This humiliates the member and does not reinforce anything beyond the fact that the mod is a big fat meanie. It's just some stuff to try not to meddle in. Less meddling means less problems.
The other is foresight. It can be summed up by "Give a man a inch and he'll take a mile". It's not rude to Fry but it's just human nature. Humanist argue there there are no people born bad. Hitler was bad, but some question would he have killed 11million people if he'd gone to art school?
Fry did say it's temporary which is a good thing to hear, but doesn't qualm my worries. It can start temporary and end with terrible consequences. Lets say MBs are living areas. We are a town while Smashboards is a large city. Do you need a lot of policemen and reinforcements in a small town? No. That's overexerting yourself. But what about in a large city? Why yes! Smashboards needs things like locks and stiffer mods becuase they are much larger. We don't. In fact, post aren't usually edited or deleted.
Also, while you may say you only deleted/edited 6 post in 2 months, you didn't start until Jan 3rd. The last one was Jan 13th. In 11 Days you have modded/deleted 6 post. That is excessive.
I do respect that you listen to members, but I fear that this route is not the right one. It seems to be trying to throw weight around or qualm the SSBB board but I feel it may not be the right way. My fear is that this will lead to over moderation. That one day, a member will be banned becuase he/she posted too many list. If you give a man an inch, he'll take a mile. Am I being a bit crazy? Maybe. Of course, it's a possible scenario, but probability can be argued. Just at least keep this in the back of your head. I'm not trying to start a revolution, but I just don't want NinDB to end up being some kind of kult with the no list, spoilers and what not least ye be judged by almighty Fry.
I can't deny that. How about this; my AIM is "Shox88" and you can send me PMs. I am trying to be nicer (I noticed this problem before) but if you have anything to say, hit me a line. I have no qualms with anyone so I'd like to work out any situation.
