What this confirms, is that the Pokemon reps are Pikachu, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario, and Jigglypuff. No Mewtwo, no Pichu. This also confirms Ness is returning, as well as no more playable Sonic characters or Kirby characters. (As you can see here.) Those of you thinking "Hey, maybe Mewtwo wasn't unlocked!" you can stop. This is the game owned by Nintendo and the creators. If they haven't unlocked a character, and a veteran at that, than...well...he's not in the game. Also, you can say, "Maybe the sticker only applies to those characters!" Why would they make it apply to every Pokemon character but one? That doesn't make sense.

As we're not entirely sure of the limitations of the stickers, I don't see how it's an impossiblity. Maybe the Groudon sticker only applies to physical attacks; if you'll recall in Melee, Mewtwo fights almost entirely with his psychic powers. It's unlikely, but the possibility exists nonetheless, so I wouldn't be so fast to rule it out.
Likewise, the possibility of stickers that cross franchises exist, too. I imagine a sticker that bolsters sword-based attacks would be exclusive only to sword-wielders; this means that Link, Meta Knight, Ike and Pit would be the only ones who could use it.
Again, not impossibilities; these are just things you need to keep an open mind for. We don't know everything just yet.

If they haven't unlocked a character, and a veteran at that, than...well...he's not in the game. they also have the full might of the debug at their disposal, which means anything can be locked or unlocked however they see fit. not to mention that stickers wouldn't be of any use to Mewtwo if he's not playable in the SSE, which is highly possible. once again: the ONLY thing this conclusively proves is the inclusion of Ness, Jigglypuff, and Lucario. anything else is needless conjecture.

It's pretty natural to think Mewtwo's been cut because so far it's pointing to that. Right now, hoping Mewtwo is still playable isn't any different then hoping Megaman is still in, yeah there's that small chance, but it doesn't seem to be likely.
Maybe he returns as a pokeball or a SSE Boss though.

What about that blank space next to the Jigglypuff icon? Lucario is not that similar to Mewtwo. If your basis is rumors and possible leaks (or what 8bitretroboney says here), then it's fine. If your basis is that the frame from that video has all the possible Pokémon, then don't be so sure. I can't check Serebii from here. What did he say about this?

how is ANYTHING pointing to Mewtwo being cut, though? just because he's not shown with that sticker? that's a whole lot of assuming, and you know what happens when you assume!

I agree with TEi and mopinks - this only confirms Jiggly, Ness and Lucario. We have no idea how the sticker system works, so assuming that Mewtwo (and Pichu) are gone, while probable, is not set in stone because of this.
Pikachu does use physical attacks, btw - Skull Bash, anyone? Most of his throws are physical, and he sweeps and hits with his body as well. Doesn't he headbutt as his standing A?
I'm not trying to pick on you, Teev - I'm just not connecting the dots the same way you are, because I don't see a link to connect anything.
Out of curiousity, has anyone translated the text in these shots yet?

the text doesn't say much, apart from the fact that the Groudon sticker increases the power of fire-based attacks. handy for Charizard!

Just that he had prior knowledge for a few months about Lucario and JPuff. Nothing more, nothing less. HOWEVER, if you read between the lines of his correspondence on Smashboards he implies that Mewtwo has gotten the axe. He even admitted that he knew "one newcomer, one veteran" for the roster. EDIT: The roster going around does NOT account for characters associated with Animal Crossing or the DS Icon. More importantly, it also ignores that final unknown icon. Unless that becomes the icon for the final WTF character the roster assumes, then it is NOT the 35 we are looking for.

What about that blank space next to the Jigglypuff icon? I dunno, but I also see a lot of blank spaces next to Ness and Lucas...

Those blank spaces leave enough room for five icons; it's safe to assume that, if the text in front of it remains the same regardless of what sticker is highlighted, then some franchises will indeed have five characters; Super Mario Bros. was the only one to do this in Melee, but will others - especially the larger ones like Pokémon or Zelda - meet that number in Brawl?
And I want to clarify that I'm not trying to pick on you either, Teev. I respect your opinions 100% and I see where you're coming from; I'm just trying to remain objective while hoping secretly for Mewtwo's return as a playable character.
And on a side-note, this has opened some kind of floodgate because now I feel like we're back in the hotseat - like this is the NinDB of old, before we got soured. W00ts.

It's because we're so close to the release. I'm sure of it. The fog of insanity is lifting, and Ness is pretty much a dead cert now! Woooo!

I'll just say this. It doesn't deconfirm Mewtwo or Pichu. The stickers are only for characters tied to the SSE, so if they are not involved, they don't get stickers. So that may be the case here.

But my point is, why would a character like Mewtwo not be represented in SSE? He's too awesome to pass up! Guys, I know it's disappointing, but you're gonna have to face the facts. Though, if Mewtwo does end up playable, I give you permission to laugh at me.
