I'd much prefer them take this route, without a doubt. I mean, it would be cool to me if someone like Waluigi got into Smash Bros, but he really doesn't need to be, and would only appeal to a few of us. Friends of mine also made comments about how they should have had 'x character', and 'x character' was always a 3rd party character (or Mewtwo) - they could get a lot more mileage going this way. That was the case even with the first Smash for me: Mega Man, Earthworm Jim, Bomberman, Sonic, Simon Belmont, Bub and Bob, etc. etc. There were tons of character ideas that were not Nintendo's. It really is the best way to give the series that extra mileage. Easy. Btw, turn to Dreammix TV vids on YouTube to see how Bomberman, Simon, etc. could work in a Smash game. Dreammix TV is sick, albeit nothing like the original.

I think everyone has made some good opinions. Arcadenik-It interesting that you would remove Sonic and Snake. It makes sence though, much like SC2 is. I wouldn't mind them staying. It's a matter of opinion I guess. It makes sence both ways. I'm cool with all Nintendo, but Sonic and Snake are a cool nod.
Flip-I'd disagree with having Smash become "Dream TV Mix". It's a Nintendo fighting game at heart. Snake and Sonic are cool additions, but I don't think third party should become a focus. Add 1, maybe 2 more thrid parties to SSB4, but I think the focus should be opn Nintendo's past and present, topped with fun, zany gameplay. I think something is lost if you just throw in third parties relentlessly.
I think you make a good point with a thinning roster. A inteligent guy on Smashboards (amazing no?) called ChronoBound has a 19 character roster for a fourth Smash game. He's trying to do what Sakurai can do, opening people's minds and showing how hard it really is. Long story short, if he can make a large roster from a thinning list, then there may not be much of a problem. But I think with a thinning line up, more retro and adding more to the franchises coughMetroidcough.
I honestly wouldn't cut anyone from brawl. I thought they did a good job with the roster. Also, since Roy and Mewtwo were futher along then the other fobbiden 7, it seems that they weren't suppose to be cut. So, in the same sence, I'm not for the line of thinking that Lucario and Ike should be cut (they weren't replacements). With that said, I'd bring back Roy, Mewtwo, and actually Dr. Mario. It's a pretty classic and well remembered franchise for Nintendo, and, like Panel De Pon, has appeared in many forms. I say change him up a bit, and bring him back.
As for new guys, that's a lot harder. Krystal for starters. People seem to want her, and we need more females. Ridley if you could get him to work. Issac is a good pick I think. King K Rool becuase he seems to be popular in Japan, and adds another DK rep (could always use more). For an old school character, either Balloon Fighter or Little Mac. Take your pick.

They should make like this packs, at shops like Eb games, gamespot and stuff like that. This pack should have characters. Like a Sd card chip but it includes characters. Like this: I made it on MS Paint. Or you could by it off Wii Shop Channel. But I think the chips could be so like you wouln't lose the character if your wii got stolen or something. But you would lose Brawl. Ahh it dosen't matter. Any way 2D Madness could like include this: Characters:Paper Mario, Tetra, Toon Zelda. Stages:Shooting Star Summit. Trophies:Paper Mario, Tetra, Toon Zelda, Paper Mario Final Smash, Tetra Final Smash, Toon Zelda Final Smash, Vaati, Pixls, Paper Mario Party, Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door Party, Count Bleck, Sir Grodus, Tetra's Piarates. Assist Trophies:Vaati, Count Bleck. What do you think?

There's already a Paper Mario trophy in Brawl. Other than that, I like the characters, ATs, trophies, level and idea. I'm not sure how feasible it would be, as DLC would allow you to have more than one update like this , unless you could upload the new stuff to your Wii. All in all, pretty good idea.

And there could also be obscure ones. Like a Retro pack that includes a playble clu clu land Bubbles and an Excite Bike track. You could even have a DS exclusive pack that includes Phenix(spelt wrong) Wright, or that Brain Train guy Professer Kowishiar(or whatever) Acually I make the things and Post them. Maybe tomorrow or something.

Anyone who has been playing Smash from the first game to Brawl would know that there is a trend of adding/removing/replacing characters from existing popular franchises in the sequels. SSB64 Mario: +2 (2) Donkey Kong: +1 (1) Zelda: +1 (1) Metroid: +1 (1) Yoshi: +1 (1) Kirby: +1 (1) Star Fox: +1 (1) Pokemon: +2 (2) F-Zero: +1 (1) Earthbound: +1 (1) Total: 12 slots for 12 playable characters MELEE Mario: +3 (5) Donkey Kong +0 (1) Zelda: +4 (5) Metroid: +0 (1) Yoshi: +0 (1) Kirby: +0 (1) Star Fox: +1 (2) Pokemon: +2 (4) F-Zero: +0 (1) Earthbound: +0 (1) Ice Climber: +1 (1) Fire Emblem: +2 (2) Game & Watch: +1 (1) Total: 25 slots for 26 playable characters; 14 Melee newcomers in addition to 12 original veterans BRAWL Mario: -1 (4) - remove Dr. Mario Donkey Kong: +1 (2) Zelda: -1, +1 (5) - remove Young Link and add Toon Link Metroid: +1 (2) Yoshi: +0 (1) Kirby: +2 (3) Star Fox: +1 (3) Pokemon: -2, + 5 (7) - remove Pichu and Mewtwo and add Lucario, Red and his three starters (yes, Red counts as a fighter) F-Zero: +0 (1) Earthbound: +1 (2) Ice Climber: +0 (1) Fire Emblem: -1, +1 (2) - remove Roy and add Ike Game & Watch: +0 (1) Kid Icarus: +1 (1) Wario: +1 (1) Pikmin: +1 (1) Gyromite: +1 (1) Metal Gear: +1 (1) Sonic: +1 (1) Total: 35 slots for 40 playable characters; 19 Brawl newcomers in addition to 9 Melee veterans and 12 original veterans So if SSB4 continues this trend of adding/removing/replacing characters from existing popular franchises, I would say this could be the roster for SSB4. Mario: +1 (5) - add Toad Donkey Kong: +1 (3) - add Dixie Kong (Diddy & Dixie team in one slot) Zelda: +1 (6) - add Tingle Metroid: +0 (2) Yoshi: +1 (2) - add Baby Mario (Yoshi & Baby Mario team in one slot) Kirby: +0 (3) Star Fox: -1, +1 (3) - remove either Falco or Wolf and add Krystal Pokemon: -1, + 2 (8) - remove Lucario and add Meowth and a 5th or 6th Gen Movie Pokemon F-Zero: +0 (1) Earthbound: -1 (1) - remove Ness or Lucas Ice Climber: +0 (1) Fire Emblem: -1, +1 (2) - remove Ike, add new FE Lord Game & Watch: +0 (1) Kid Icarus: +0 (1) Wario: +1 (2) - add Overalls Wario (he is a semi-clone of regular Wario but he gets weird status changes based off Wario Land like Fire Wario, Snowball Wario, etc.) Pikmin: +0 (1) Gyromite: +0 (1) Metal Gear: -1 (0) - remove Snake Sonic: -1 (0) - remove Sonic Punch Out: +1 (1) - add Little Mac Advance Wars: +1 (1) - add Commanding Officer Wii Sports: +1 (1) - add Mii Duck Hunt: +1 (1) - add Duck Hunt Dog Total: 40 slots for 47 playable characters; 13 SSB4 newcomers in addition to 34 veterans from Brawl Why did I pick Duck Hunt Dog? Well, he is supposed to be SSB4's WTF retro fighter like how Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. were the WTF retro fighters for Melee and Brawl respectively. Why did I pick Little Mac? Well, he is supposed to be SSB4's popular-picked retro fighter like how Ice Climbers and Pit were the popular-picked retro fighters for Melee and Brawl respectively. Why did I pick Mii? Well, the Mii could be created from the Fighter Builder mode that could likely be added alongside the Stage Builder mode. Plus SSB3 were going to be basically SSBM with online play and Miis as the only newcomers so why not? Could be fun beating up Duck Hunt Dog as yourself. Why did I pick Commanding Officer? Well, the Advance Wars franchise is very similar to the Fire Emblem franchise from what I see and it is a very popular franchise in both Japanese and international sides.

Yeah! Toad would make an excellent fighter! He could...um...run around...crying. That's sum gewd material rite therr.! Tingle? I don't see it. Again, I don't see it. Why do people want to play as Meowth? 'Cause Pikachu's in? No. They are perfectly good fighters. They're staying. He should not be on an extra slot, but instead, when you change the costume, you get the different moveset. That would work out. I see no reason why they should be removed. They are awesome. What's with this obsession?

I don't expect anyone to agree with my suggested SSB4 roster. But I can be sure that if SSB4 actually does end up like my suggested SSB4 roster (I wish), many people would get mad and hate Sakurai for ruining SSB4 and then eventually calm down and have fun playing with these new characters... just like with Melee and Brawl.

It's not the point of agreeing or disagreeing. I asked a couple questions and think they should be answered. (Though I guess I didn't ask 'em right so let me try again ) 1. Why should Toad be in? 2. Why should Tingle be in? 3. Why Baby Mario? 4. *yawn* Why Meowth? 5. Why should Ness/Lucas go? 6. Why should Snake and Sonic leave? 7. (and finally) Why Duck Hunt Dog? What you posted was a list without justification.

Hey, it's just like Arcadenik complaining/speculating about the Brawl roster before we knew the entire thing, all over again! This is relevant and interesting stuff, Teev, can't you see? ;D

Oh yeah, sorry. I guess I can't comprehend the extreme amount of awesome. You know, removing Snake and Sonic, and adding Duck Hunt and Toad make an awesome game!

*sighs* Here we go again... I wasn't even complaining about the final Brawl roster. It is fine as is, even though I don't agree with three Star Fox semi-clones and three Landmasters (I like Wolf the best, to be honest). Snake and Sonic are great and all, but they are just that... guest stars. Kinda like how Link was a guest star in Soul Calibur 2 and didn't return in the sequel. But I guess I still cannot comprehend the awesomeness of removing Mewtwo and Roy and adding R.O.B. and Olimar.
Why did I add Toad, Tingle, Baby Mario, and Meowth? They are some of the most recognizable faces of their respective franchises (Mario, Zelda, Yoshi, and Pokemon). Geno, Oni Link, Kamek, and Blaziken.... are not. They are more like one-hit wonders of these major franchises. Blaziken didn't even make it to the Pokeball roster despite his huge popularity in the West but huge demand brought Meowth back to the Pokeball roster. That's something. Anyway, back to one-hit wonders, they would apply to franchises with only one or two games like Pit, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., and Olimar. And that's why I added Little Mac and Duck Hunt Dog. Sakurai isn't going to add Japanese-only one-hit wonders from Japanese-only franchises like Sukapon, Takamaru, Lip, etc. unfortunately.
I didn't add Balloon Fighter because Sakurai said he wouldn't work according to the Ice Climbers' profile in the Melee Dojo. I didn't add Takamaru because Sakurai said he would put him in a Smash game if he had a sequel which likely won't come plus he is Japan-only, unfortunately. I didn't add Ridley because he is too big as Brawl clearly proved (and I wanted Ridley in). I didn't add an Animal Crossing character because Sakurai said they wouldn't fit (even though I disagree with him). I didn't add Geno (I'm starting to feel he's second only to Sonic in third-party demand) because he is still co-owned by Square-Enix and Nintendo still needs permission to use Geno and I have a strong feeling that if Nintendo wants a Square-Enix rep, it won't be Geno, it will be Cloud Strife.
At least I left the SSB4 roster almost identical to the Brawl roster. Why am I being jumped on for removing a few characters I felt were most likely of leaving in SSB4 and adding certain characters I felt had the most significance to their respective franchises even though they are not that popular? Because they are unpopular?
P.S. I absolutely love playing as Olimar and R.O.B.

After playing Tingle´s awesome Ruppeland , its clear to me that Tingle its not a fighter, so If Tingle gets in the sequel, he should fight like this:
Tingle would be accompanied by one of his body guards (ice climbers style) but unlike the Ice climbers, Tingle can not fight, so its up to you to let your bodyguard do the dirty work (your bodyguard is computer controlled) while you try to avoid being kicked out of the stage and keeping your bodyguard healthy, Tingle specials should be something like this.
B: Kooloo-Limpah, Tingle uses his magic words (don´t steal ´em)
side B : Tingle points forward and sends his Bodyguard to attack
Down B: Potion, tingle draws a potion , you can trow it to your bodyguard to heal him, however if you hit your oponent, you can accidentally heal them to (but you cant heal yourself with it)
Up B: Baloons, use em to get back to the stage if you get trown (your bodyguar d can grab from your feets to return)

Why did I add Toad, Tingle, Baby Mario, and Meowth? They are some of the most recognizable faces of their respective franchises (Mario, Zelda, Yoshi, and Pokemon). Being recognizable and fight-worthy are two different things. Louie's recognizable in the Pikmin franchise, should he be added? Mother Brain is recognizable in the Metroid franchise, should she be added? Eggplant Wizard is recognizable in the Kid Icarus franchise, should he be added? I don't think, just because people know who the character, doesn't mean they should be in Smash. But then again, it's your opinion, so I really don't fucking care anymore.

R.O.B. doesn't look like he is fight-worthy despite being recognizable and he still got in anyway. Whatever do you mean they aren't fight-worthy? Meowth is a Pocket Monster, meaning it engages in combat with other Pocket Monsters. How is he not fight-worthy? Baby Mario fought space aliens in Mario & Luigi 2 using hammers, Chain Chomps, and Koopa Shells, how is he not fight-worthy? Toad fought the 8-Bit Club alongside Mario, Luigi, and Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2, how is he not fight-worthy? He might throw poison mushrooms to shrink opponents, shoot spores to turn opponents into mushrooms, and drive the racing kart around the stage. Tingle is the only one who appears to be not fight-worthy but after reading Flint's idea, I think it would be a very unique way of playing as Tingle with his bodyguards. If one is creative enough to come up with a moveset you would expect from that character, that could very well work out good.
And sarcastically adding Mother Brain and Eggplant Wizard doesn't bode well since Mother Brain is more of a boss material (she's too big and cannot move) and Eggplant Wizard is a generic enemy (generic enemies cannot be in). Louie could very well end up as Olimar's clone since Sakurai loooooooooooooooves adding clones and semi-clones in Smash.
