I didn't know whether to put this in Cameos or not, but it's interesting nonetheless. Mario makes an appearance in the new Banjo Kazooie game.

Heh, Awesome! ;D Not all that surprising since Rare has tried to maintain a relationship with Nintendo. Remember, they were the ones who remastered the GBA DKC games. Too bad we won't see any of their stuff on the VC.

Actually, there was a little controversy about this. When the trailer debuted, it featured that Mario "statue" being decapitated and destroyed. Apparently, it was Rare's last minute addition to the trailer, and Microsoft wasn't aware of it. The trailer was quickly edited to remove the destruction part, and a statement was issued to let everyone know that no disrespect was intended. EDIT: You can see the edited portion here. MS & Rare apparently got a lot of criticism for it.

Well, maybe he was destroyed because everything, and I mean everything in the game is destructible.
Even trees.
RARE has stated that though they are partnered with Microsoft, they can still make games for other handhelds. That's why Diddy Kong Racing DS was released by RARE.

Too bad we won't see any of their stuff on the VC. If I recall correctly, the DKC trilogy was made by Rare and has been released on VC already...and I guess DK64 will eventually follow as well! I guess that Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, Conker and Goldeneye won't though, which is a crying shame (although I've already got the originals, anyway). Nice Find, though!

The DKC trilogy is a special exception, in that it is owned fully by Nintendo since it uses Donkey Kong. I'm sure DK64 will follow eventually. It might not, however, because of the expansion pack.

But no DK64 would mean no Majora's Mask. Good bet it'll just take up extra room.
The decapitation's probably Rare joking about if they're still annoyed with Nintendo over Dinosaur Planet or not. Among other things. It's clearly not true anger, they have Mario in out of respect in the first place.

I think their "budget" team are still happily working with Nintendo on handheld and VC projects. I imagine DK64 will be along soon. I seriously doubt Nintendo didn't think about emulating the expansion pak before working on the VC emulator.
After all, NST probably did a lot of work on it, as they adapted the N64 Zelda games to GC... why they wouldn't have also used that for the Wii VC would be plain stupid!

I don't think Nintendo is interested in expansion pak emulation.
No ghost save on Mairo Kart 64.
No rumble in all Nintendo 64 games.
See? They can emulate to a far better level than the emulators you use on computers, but when it comes to special hardware, they do nothing.

What's so difficult about titles that needed the Expansion Pak? I'd say it's just RAM that could be lent from the Wii.
Controller Pak titles are probably hard-coded to save things in a special format, and Rumble Pak is obviously additional hardware.

Nintendo could easily add support to all these features but probably won't because they feel it's unnecessary.

Only slightly off-topic, but Rockstar loves Mario, too - in GTAIV, there's an arcade in the China Town district of Algonquin that has a recolored SMB Mario sprite on the side. I'll get a picture of it as soon as I can to show you guys. XD
