Well, I got Banjo-Kazooie: NaB, and...
...I can't read it! D: D: D:
I dunno what Rare was thinking, but the text on this game is so miniscule that I can't make out a single thing the instructions or characters are saying. So I haven't made it very far past Spiral Mountain as Fattycakes!Banjo, and as such I can't tell you whether or not the Mario thing (which is awesome btw) is something exclusive to the video or if it actually appears in-game. Will report back on this once Rare makes that text-fixin' patch sometime in the next month.
P.S.: Goombadee, I'd give you a Smiting if I'd been here earlier and you hadn't already realized you were being silly - but since you have (I think), I'll let you slide this once. So consider it a theoretical Smiting. ;D

I heard about this over the weekend, and it's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. How do you make a game as high profile as this without once thinking to test it - or playtest it - on a standard TV!
Seriously - I despair sometimes...

Yikes. I couldn't read the text at all in the demo, not only is it ridiculously small, but it scrolls by way too fast. But I was told that was fixed in the final! Dammit, Rare...

I had the same problem with Dead Rising, that shit was ridiculous. But now I've got a sexy new big screen TV, and Banjo is out here tomorrow, and hopefully I can get the Banjo N64 code with it, and everything will be hunky dory super duper awesome.
Is the game enjoyable? I could try the demo, but I'd prefer to go into it completely fresh.

Is the game enjoyable? I could try the demo, but I'd prefer to go into it completely fresh. What I played of it was pretty fun...but there wasn't that much. You start the game with Banjo and Kazooie being so overweight from not having done any adventuring in eight years that all of their old moves no longer work, and every couple seconds Banjo stops to catch his breath and scold Kazooie for getting so fat that she can't fly them places. Then the Lord of Games restored the pair to fitness, before locking me in a small area where I needed to A// learn new moves and B// use those moves to get out. Which is hard when you can't read the instructions. ;D

Well yeah, that kind of sucks. Think I'll bite on this one anyway, Rare's humour is usually worth the price of admission for me anyway, plus at least I've got the classic BK if this one is terrible.

Yeah, I heard about that text issue. Rare sounded pretty nobby in replying to it too, saying they don't plan to do a patch...unless their moods have changed since last week.

As I understand it, they HAVE changed their minds.

I only got out by recognising the button icons appearing in the text bubbles and pressing them, I didn't have a clue what they were supposed to do. In fact, I haven't done a single actual task in the demo, because... I don't know what they are! It's fun to mess around in it, though.

As I understand it, they HAVE changed their minds. Ah, good. Their initial response was not very customer friendly, so I'm glad to hear that they changed their stance. That'll increase my interest in it, anyway.

Okay, so I've been playing the game where I could at friends' houses, since they either have big-screen TVs or contemporary computer monitors *points at his which is roughly five years old by this point* and thus makes the game readable for me.
I have to admit...this is really fun. Even though it took eight years to do, I think Rare has got the idea that eludes many game companies trying to establish a franchise, including Nintendo. By taking away all of Banjo and Kazooie's old moves from the first two games and replacing everything with the vehicle driving/customizing mechanic, it feels so very much not like a rehash - even though there's an entire level in the game based on the contents of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. As a Rare cynic for the past...well, basically since Banjo-Tooie and Star Fox Adventures, this one has really taken me by surprise.
So far as cameos go, I've found a couple notable ones - but not that giant Mario sprite. The ones that are significant to Nintendo are mostly found in the "Logbox 720" level: on the ground floor of the level are several spinning disks that look like cover art for old Rare games including Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. And in a racing challenge set up by Gruntilda where she offers to halt her plans to have her cat take a shit in the system's pool, Kazooie remarks on how rediculous of a bargain that is, only for Banjo to say "No, I had something like that happen to me once a few years ago. It involved a genie and a giant pig."
And then there's that one level that's a museum of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie's history, but yeah. If you want me to go in-depth there, I can.

Well, I kinda have some good news for some of you. I have finalised the way the website will work. It's much more compact, it's much easier to use, and it allows for more coverage of in-series cameos! I'll be posting a test run once I've converted all of the information. Then once it's live, then begins the huge task of updating all of the information. So, if you want to go into more detail on the museum, go nuts (and bolts)!
