It could be that Nintendo fans are even more scarce in Japan than they are in America or Europe. I find more English fan sites on the net for Nintendo than I do in Japanese.
The fact is most obsessive nerds in Japan lean more twards cute moe girls and giant robots than they do Nintendo, like us nerds over here.
Remember this isn't a Mario fan's game, a Pokemon fan's game. This is a hardcore Nintendo geek's game. And there aren't many out there.

The fact is, Nintendo sent the game to die. It's one of those games a few thousand people will reminisce upon as hidden masterpieces in a few years. Just like GiFTPiA. |

Yeah, we knew about that. But I really think you're confusing "The West" with "America". I still think Europe could get this game. On another note, Edge has rated the game 7/10. Not bad for Edge! Higher than Mega Man 9!  I doubt it. Nintendo hates Europe and if it's not going to be released in the US it is unlikely we see it here. Tingle was of course an exception, but we didn't get Mother 3 either. |

Nintendo doesn't hate Europe - if anything, Nintendo Europe's increasing independence from Nintendo of America has meant we get more games earlier - sometimes even earlier than America or Japan - and we've also been getting a lot of games that are unlikely to get a release in America.
But the flip side to this is that occasionally we don't get games that didn't perform well in other territories, or we don't get games that don't fulfil stringent European safety practices (this is why we didn't get any of the rumble or gyro GBA games).
But Europeans have never had it so good from Nintendo as we do at the moment. Back in 2002, your argument was entirely true, but since then it's just been getting better and better. Hell, seeing as I'm playing Disaster: Day of Crisis, and have a crapton of Japan-only games on my Virtual Console, in many ways we're doing waaaay better than the States right now.
I'm interested to hear why you still hold these antiquated views though.

I think had Europe got Earthbound originally, there might have been a small chance Europe would have got Mother 3 as well. No way of knowing, but it's very similar to Tingle RPG in terms of content.

I agree with Fry. And I also think that NoE's website is a lot better today, not just because of a better arranged design, but also because they translate the original Japanese game sites instead of the American ones.
If I have any real complaints in terms of NoE today, then these are the partly inconsistent name changes in the German translations (they Germanize a lot of names, that has even increased since 2001), like from Captain Syrup to "Kapitän Kandis" in Wario Land: The Shake Dimension.
Oh, I hope so much that we'll get EarthBound for VC over here. This, Super Mario RPG (already here) and Kirby's Dream Land 3 are the games I'd immediately buy.

Back after more than a month...
That GoNintendo post is actually an old one, sadly. To tell the thruth, I don't really have much hope anymore. Would NoE care to localize the worst-selling Nintendo-published Wii game and one of the worst-selling Nintendo titles of all time, especially when it's a game with a lot of text and that is deemed to be a niche game in Europe from the beginning? I doubt, but I'll wait until summer, then I'll probably watch the ending at YouTube...

In February, IGN opened a feature named "Publish Me Now!" for Japanese Wii titles that need to be released in America. Captain Rainbow is among them. There is also a poll where you can vote for the game you want (including CR). wii.ign.com/articles/951/951685p3.htmlwii.ign.com/polls/13065.htmlNo news on a Western release there. They say a release in America is "low" and the game showed up on a few European release lists, but unofficially. They claim that a release of Disaster in America is low, too. |

I have some good news and bad news when coming here: Bad News: Europe Release seems to be cancelled. Good News: Captain Rainbow then gets a kirameki.altervista.org/eng/rainbow.php(-lvl-) There's even italian translation going on as well. (-lwl-) Also there's a poll that asks what games you like to see get translated. From what I've seen, there's Tomato Adventure, Tingle's Color-Changing Balloon Trip Of Love and Marvelous: Another Treasure Island. |

So, now that it's been revealed in the recent Iwata Asks that Ossan was Mario's original original original name, do you think it was coincidence that the guy from Golf was named Ossan? It's hard to tell since Ossan is a generic term.

Now if only there was some kind of Operation Rainbow for Captain Rainbow. It's a shame that unlike The Last Story and Pandora's Tower it's relatively old though and Nintendo probably wouldn't take it seriously? There have often been bad translations in the European Game Boy games. For example, in the Spanish Red/Blue, when you fish for a Pokémon it says "¡El malvado (POKéMON) atacó!"
