Because like I've been saying time and time again. The world of Sonic is NOT our world. We live in a world where love can only be achieved by another human being, so we see Sonic and Elise as strange and disgusting. But if we were to live in their world, that would be normal.
The same applies in our own world. In some countries, things that seem totally insane are completely practical.

Still, the situations mentioned above were played for humor, and they were at least cartoony animals being paired together. In Sonic '06, he was paired with a realistic human girl, in an e ntirely serious manner. Why the hell does it even merit defense?  It was a metaphor for how much in love the sonic fans still are with sonic even though he's quite clearly dead. |

That seems like a contradiction. Besides, nobody's validated them "gettin' it on". I'm not validating a news story about a young girl doing obscene things to a hedgehog, I'm validating two freakin' cartoon characters sharing a quick kiss. Why anybody is taking it seriously enough to be offended by it is beyond me. |

Phew, that was tough.
Okay, guess I gotta NOW back up by claim about the whole joke thing. I consider it a joke like how a nerd getting hung up by his underwear on a flagpole is a joke. Some people laugh, and the others are like "Hey guys, that's not funny. This is serious!" Then they get beat up for not laughing.
This kiss thing is just another sad and ridiculous way to make Sonic the laughing stock of the videogame community. It's Shadow with guns all over again.

Saying it's okay because it's another universe is really really stupid though. Guess what, humans kissing other living things on the mouth is considered really really weird over here in the real world and so the majority of the people who saw that scene thought it was really really weird too. Like if there's a fictional story someone published taking place in Fantasy Land where geezer barbarians rape and marry little kids and everybody is all: 'Man that's messed up, the writer is messed up' and there's some guy white knighting the author because 'It's another universe IT'S ALLLLLLRIGHT!' Yes I know anthro-kissing is nowhere as bad as pedophilia and I'm total shit at analogies but you get my point. But, like you said, it's just another excuse to rag on Sonic. That's the cool thing these days, it seems. I see that comment a lot lately and it makes me grin, as if there are jock-nerds high-fiving each other while making Sonic sucks jokes.
