I'm pretty sure, speaking of Tennis/Golf alts, that Peach had the blue dress in those games as well. People often forget that those games did let you play as the same character and hence had their own costumes to choose from. It would be worth a look to see if that's where we got some of the Luigi and Bowser costumes as well.
EDIT: Back after taking some screencaps, and you'd be interested to know that I wrong about Luigi but totally correct about Bowser. Mario Golf provides four costumes per character and the Peach and Bowser costumes are damn close to Smash Bros. versions, and considering both premiered in Melee it can work chronologically.

The three Peach's are spot on, especially considering system differences. The first two could still be in reference to NES Open Golf, though, considering this is a golf game, Bowser's are kinda blah, with the exception of the last one. IT fits the "SMW" Bowser quite well. Also:  Mario Golf predates DK64, so this would be Blue DK's first appearance. And because Savage Adam asked for it:  |
