The brighter (which is to say more vivid) blue may make sense for the green-glove Popo, but since I can't actually see what color Nana's wearing in Brawl artwork, it hardly seems definitive.

What other Ice Climber games are you referencing? I only know of three: Arcade, NES, PC. Unless you're counting rereleases and such? Also, do we consider Climber for the Game and Watch part of the franchise?

It's sorta-kinda counted. Fry is going to put it as a related game on the Ice Climber page when that's done.

Ice Climber (AC) Ice Climber (NES) Ice Climber (FDS) Ice Climber (PC88) Climber (G&W) Those were the ones I was including, not including games released after SSBM.

I don't personally consider Climber part of the franchise. I think it's definitely inspired by Ice Climber, but no more than Squish is inspired by Devil World.

I found this image on MarioWiki. This is Fire Mini Donkey Kong from Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. This has to be where the white Donkey Kong comes from.

I'd like to point to white DK being a pretty common recolor dating back to Eddie the Yeti. DK goes albino in another game, a sports game, and if I recall correctly before MvDK2.

GUYS IS THIS THREAD STILL ALIVE BECAUSE I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING So Sonic's green wristbands look like the green things Knuckles has around his ankles, right? But those aren't wristbands, so it probably doesn't count, right? BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU JAM THE SONIC 2 CARTRIDGE ON TOP OF THE SONIC & KNUCKLES CARTRIDGE EDIT: Yeah trust me to overlook something like this:

Has anybody thought about No Mask Meta Knight as an alt costume? That'd be tight.

A video of the palettes at E3.
Little Mac: Yellow is 2p from Punch-Out Wii. Blue is Major Circuit.
Wii Fit Trainers both have green Wii Fit Plus palettes.
Sonic: now has actual palettes, including Silver. Another has the Crystal Ring from SA1.
Megaman: Red is Rush Adapter, Green is Leaf Storm Megaman, bronze-ish is Metal Blade Megaman.
Rosalina appears to have Peach and Daisy palettes.

Rosalina appears to have Peach and Daisy palettes. Nah, those don't look like they're directly trying to be like Peach or Daisy. Just plain pink and yellow for her. At least not as direct as when Peach's Daisy alt does it, in that sense.

I'm hoping there are more than just four palette swaps per character in Smash 4. Brawl had six per character... Pokemon characters each had four and Wario had like twelve (he's special). Mainly because I want more Villagers instead of just these four. I really wish the Kirby hat is the original Animal Crossing horned hat (males) and cone hats (females) but it doesn't seem to be the case.
As for alternate costumes, I'm so glad that Wii Fit Trainer and Villager got both genders... and Little Mac got the arcade wireframe look. The Miis appeared to have several different alternate costumes... which is very cool! I'm kinda hoping that Pac-Man gles the Villager route and has alternate costumes based on Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man, and Professor Pac-Man instead of just palette swaps based on the Ghosts.
I'm loving Mega Man's red palette swap... reminds me of Rush Adapter in Mega Man 6 box art. I'm also pleased to see that Sonic now have obvious palette swaps instead of just changing the color of his wristbands.

I wouldn't be too quick to jump the gun as E3 was missing out on Wire frame Little Mac, after all. Also, on the topic of Sonic's alternate colors, aside from a texture based off Silver, I couldn't tell what the other two alt. colors were referencing, if anything.

In fact, aside from that texture based off Silver, Sonic seemed to be suffering the exact same problem he was dealing with in Brawl: He was just as blue in every costume as in every other costume (again, not counting the Silver costume.)

Little Mac now has a new palette and a new costume: the World Circuit and the training hoodie. That puts him at minor through world. On to Title Defense!
