Does no one remember Yoshimitsu? He's been in pretty much every Soul Calibur, hasn't he? (I've only played 1 and 2) He's a Tekken character... But since Soul Calibur II, both DOA4 and Brawl had guest fighters, the former having Nicole, based on the Halo franchise, Wasn't Master Chief in it too? That brought a tear to my eye Crash, why'd you have to die on me?

Did Cloud Strife appear on a Nintendo console though? Since that was one of the rules for 3rd party people to appear in Brawl. Ofcourse they can be all 'screw the rules' with the next sequel.
Also wasn't that 'poll' with Geno on top actually the amount of times Sakurai wrote about the characters when responding to mail or whatever? Unless I'm thinking about another thing. Atleast it means mr Sakurai's interested in the puppet too.

I see Smash Bros. as a celebration of all things Nintendo, featuring a roster made up of entirely of Nintendo All-stars, with a few obscure nintendo characters thrown in for good measure.
So, having said that, I would like to see a return to that idea, starting with the next game in the series.

Less third party characters means the more Nintendo characters.
More Nintendo characters means more happy Nintendo fans.

Less third party characters means the more Nintendo characters. More Nintendo characters means more happy Nintendo fans. You're right! Because Nintendo fans are selfish pricks who have to have everything their way! In all seriousness, Nintendo fans will be happy no matter what (at least they should be, unless they're still brawling, er bawling about Brawl. Which I'm not ) I see Smash Bros. as a celebration of all things Nintendo, featuring a roster made up of entirely of Nintendo All-stars, with a few obscure nintendo characters thrown in for good measure. So, having said that, I would like to see a return to that idea, starting with the next game in the series. Sure thing! Let's all scrape the bottom of the barrel. Hmm...here's Birdo, starman, and Topi. There! Three more Nintendo characters to make this small group of people happy! You people have to realize that no matter what you think, most people here are a minority. A small minority that actually gives a shit about Nintendo's past. I know Miyamoto doesn't, otherwise there would be more revivals of kickass old games like Kid Icarus, Nazo no Murablablahblah, and even Mole Mania!

It's not that the Nintendo fans are so greedy not letting anyone else join becuase this is a fighting franchise for Nintendo characters. See how the copyright is Nintendo/Hal Laboratories. I see Smash Bros. as a celebration of all things Nintendo, featuring a roster made up of entirely of Nintendo All-stars, with a few obscure nintendo characters thrown in for good measure. So, having said that, I would like to see a return to that idea, starting with the next game in the series. There is some truth to what you said, but overall, you completely missed the point. Again, the game is a celebration of Nintendo history. So old school characters are what is too be expected. It doesn't mean the game is flooded with them, but part of what Smash great was taking a broad look at Nintendo, and in the end, we get the Ice Climbers, Pit, ROB and more. This is a huge part of Smash: taking characters from around the Nintendo universe and pitting them against each other. @8bit:Master Cheif was not in DOA4 actually. It was some other Spartan. Show how dull the character is. Game Guru:It's not up to Kojima if Snake gets in or not; it is up to Sakurai. Also, I expect we are either going to have 3,2 or 0 third party characters in the next game. So, they will either add Megaman, keep the two third party guys, or dump the whole thing. I assume the middle is the least likely. I don't think I could say for sure just what will happen. This is just a guess.

I was merely responding to Koopaul. What I said, was a little thing called "sarcasm". Perhaps you've heard of it? Again, the game is a celebration of Nintendo history. No. SSB64 was a celebration of Nintendo's history. Melee was the introduction of newer characters such as Roy, Pichu, and Shiek. Brawl is a celebration of the Nintendo of now. A Nintendo who values third parties. Sure, that's all fine and dandy, but sooner or later, all those valued characters will be used up. As I said before, there isn't much else to choose from aside from the obscure, and I doubt the majority of Smash players want to play as a magic star (Stafy) they've never heard of. Umm it was only 2 iconic 3rd party characters and 38 Nintendo ones in Brawl....Not much. Everyone knows Sonic(atleast his new ones) and even through he is less popular everyone knows Snake(Atleast his Brawl form). So it's not much...in fact...isn't SORA a third party company now? A celebration of Nintendo HISTORY? I'm pretty sure they had a little help on the way... The Wii is for everyone isn't it? Nintendo can share it's profit.... it's making a load of money already.

I've read an IGN interview some days ago and it seems that, in what Sakurai has said, he is aware of the impact to fanboys on the inclusion of guest characters, and is one of the reasons of why there is no 3rd guest brawler.
Some random responses here....
TVEye: No. SSB64 was a celebration of Nintendo's history. Melee was the introduction of newer characters such as Roy, Pichu, and Shiek. Brawl is a celebration of the Nintendo of now. A Nintendo who values third parties. As opposing to 3rd party inclusion as I am, I think you're right... Plus, Nintnedo doesn't quite take competitors as a threat... and Iwata allowed Sakurai to put Snake, a PlayStation-dominant character, in. But... isn't Sheik a Zelda OoT character? The one that within the same game of the OoT Link, the one used in Super Smash Bros.? She didn't appear in the 64-GC gap - but before that!
Sure, that's all fine and dandy, but sooner or later, all those valued characters will be used up. As I said before, there isn't much else to choose from aside from the obscure, and I doubt the majority of Smash players want to play as a magic star (Stafy) they've never heard of. For some reason I recall how confused people are when they heard Ice Climbers in Melee. Not much people heard of that game before Melee!
Teh lovingness wi11 be sh4red. I am the smarterest 4fter 411! LOL.
Nazo no Murablablahblah I am already seeing Takamaru slaying you.
Smashchu: See how the copyright is Nintendo/Hal Laboratories. The rights of Super Smash Bros. series, unless otherwise owned, is reserved by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, Inc. "Laboratory", with no "s".
commanderflint: Umm it was only 2 iconic 3rd party characters and 38 Nintendo ones in Brawl Hmm.... 38? Let me see... 35-2(3rd parties)+2(Pkmn Trainer)+1(Shiek)+1(Zamus)=37... so unless you split the Ice Climbers as well, I doubt how you get this number...
everyone knows Snake Not before Brawl in my case. Same goes to Lucas. There's still a big load of things I haven't seen when this SSB came up...
isn't SORA a third party company now? As is Game Arts. Although SORA is no typical company! It only has 2 workers in it. And actually.... Wii itself is no product of pure Nintendoness.

TVeye, I was sorta talking to the Nintendo fans of these forums who indeed wouldn't mind more Nintendo characters.
I'm not saying Nintendo fans aren't happy now, I'm saying it would make them "more happy"
And indeed, Smash Bros. was not a celebration of Nintendo history... It was a celebration of all things Nintendo. So yeah the game was sorta for us, the Nintendo fans, and we are happy... But we could be happier.

Again, if you were in Sakurai's place, would you rather have characters that people can identify with, or characters that would make just a small group of people happy for a small period of time?
I don't mean to sound harsh, but if the Nintendo fans were taken into consideration, then the casual gamers (the Wii's main target) would feel left out in not knowing who so-and-so is.
But you can't say we aren't happy. We got Pit, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch, Lucas, Meta Knight, and other characters that are equally awesome and obscure. If no one is happy with who we have now, well then go on and moan about you want for SSB4. I guarantee that only the Japanese will be the only ones listened to though...

D: Umm casual gamers werent in mind when they made Brawl, but neither were hardcore and competitive gamers. He tried to even it out, one of my casual friends thought video games started with the Genesis and think LoZTP is the hardest game ever...so ya. Oh and he thinks Koopa is a good guy. I would be happy if the next installment only used 3 or 4 3rd party....there's still Advance Wars, Golden Sun, etc.

Brawl is a celebration of the Nintendo of now. A Nintendo who values third parties. Given that their are only a handful of decent 3rd party titles for the Wii (the Wii port of RE4 excluded), I don't see how you can justify this claim!
