Err, you forgot the most important part of that definition:
DKU is a website, formerly known as Donkey Kong: Jungle Vine. It wasn't so much a DK fansite as a Rare fansite, and often caused rifts between itself and other fansites by declaring its fanon to be fact, and defending it with the kind of determination usually reserved for religious fanatics.
Their forums were a hub of painful-to-watch fanon discussions, exploring some ridiculous notions (as described in the post above) with absolute seriousness, and a bloodthirsty attitude to anyone who pointed out the blinding obvious (everything they were saying was bollocks).
I hear they've mellowed out a bit, but I daren't go and see. One or two members here also post there though.

I dread to think... Probably nothing good. There was a review on UK:Resistance for Sega Superstars Tennis that contained this little tidbit: And a part of me thought "Aww, he's talking about me..."

Painful? It was fucking hilarious (at least I thought so, anyway). ;D Anyway, one day I might summon the courage to join in, but for now I'm content to remain in 'lurker' mode.

Ten bucks says DKU is run by 10 year-olds pretending to be 40 and completely drunk teens who have no lives. Part of me is scared to go there, while the other part if kind of interested. But from what I've heard, it can't be good.

You're an idiot for thinking that Roy, and now I shall set the record straight.
They have. Since the Jungle Vine days, Chad and Slush have pretty much branched off to breaking into television with their TV show Elvis and Slick Monty, so they really don't do anything besides pay to keep the servers up and running. Chad does pop up every now and again to converse with us, and he's pretty cool. Mark (the only currently active moderator) does all the news posts, and he's a pretty nice guy.
Sean and Bendilin have both given up their accounts over something about Brawl, and a lot of other old users don't even post on there anymore, so the place is a lot less active than it used to be. Whenever they do, they certainly don't act like little children. Nowadays there really isn't anymore discussion about the DKU itself (unless Koopaul feels like stirring shit up like he always does) and all these newer users are pretty reasonable and intellegent. You'll also be pleased to know that Jim still posts.

Jim was always my hero. I used to post at DKU sporadically, generally in the hope of arguing reason with them or proving that you can be a hardcore Nintendo fanboy and still like Donkey Kong (as impossible as it may otherwise sound).

Roy...Grow up, will you? Sheesh... >.>
Some of you here seem to be going a bit too far on the bashing them, you think? Leave them be then, simple.

Weren't the people over DKVine not satisfied with Brawl because Diddy Kong having moves based off Rare's DKC & DK64 games weren't enough because they felt that Brawl were overrepping Nintendo's Donkey Konga and Jungle Beat with Rumble Falls and DK's FS, forgetting the fact that DK used his FS in DK64, too?

Hey hey! The people at the DKU may believe some rediculous things, but they are still very intelligent and behaved.
Don't insult the members there.

How can rather ridiculous concepts/ideas be discussed intellectually anyway? If they've really done away with all this self-importance now, then it's all clear and you all shouldn't be trashing them as much anymore either. People have their fun for a while, but may later on get rather bored of it. Honestly, declaring one's own ideas as fact and angrily proving everyone else wrong with it just isn't a good way to go about it (the one part where they went wrong at the time, but that's it). It's wise to admit to one's own obsessions and other problems (I'm a fanboy of a lot of things, so there you have it). And Koopaul? What kind of shit have you been stirring up there?

He tries to denounce the DKU itself at every chance he gets, then goes on about how he thinks DK is rightfully a part of Mario's universe instead.
The rules of the DKU state that DK lives on Earth, because DK Isle is located on the same planet as the Isle O' Hags and Willow Woods, both of which are implied to be near real-world England.
It's one thing to see having a fanon universe as rediculous, but it's even worse when you constantly try to say your fanon ideas are more "right" than someone else's.

I have actual proof that DK is a part of the Mario universe. I don't have a fanon universe, I try to discuss REAL canon every chance I can get.
And besides, the DKU isn't always discussing their universe, in fact, they rarely do these days. Instead we just discuss the current state of franchises as well as speculating upcoming ones. And when that happens for the most part we agree on things. Despite our differences, we both LOVE Donkey Kong, and believe he deserves more than he's getting now.
That's the main reason I'm staying there, not to denounce the DKU, but to talk about Donkey Kong around people who love him too.

If DK appears in a Pokemon game for whatever reason, expect neon avatars of all 493 of them.
They kinda go overboard on those, going for every single thing in any DKU games. Making pseudo-Smash Bros. trophies out of themselves, perhaps?
Just another thing I had to work in.

Donkey Kong IS part of the Marioverse. Donkey Kong and Mario's first game proves that.
Let me guess... people over at DKVine claim that Donkey Kong is not part of the Marioverse and that Conker, Banjo, Grabbed by the Goonies, and whatever else Rare made is part of the Donkey Kong Universe, right?
