SML and SML2 need to go side by side, as it was while Mario was saving Daisy in SML that Wario was working his greed for the first time in SML2.
Yoshi's Story shouldn't really be in a timeline... especially now there's confusion over Bowser Jr. REAL confusion (SMS)... not just spinoff confusion (eg. Baby Mario)

I don't think you should try to make sense out of the Zelda games timeline. In the franchise page, you should just introduce the new Links as the games are released and describe the scenario without implying in any place which game comes first or if two games share the same Link (except where it's obvious as in OoT and MM). The game history section of the pages of the rest of the franchises will be a piece of cake, except for Mario, DK, Pokémon and others, where they will need a lot of updating and storyline-out-figuring. That will also be the case for the Nintendo Stars pages (by the way: making Stars pages for the Pokémon games characters will be impossible, as they have no official name: you could refer to the character you control in the Red, Blue and Yellow versions as either Ash, Satoshi, or Red.)

I'll level with you guys - I don't like the SML games... they are too... not-like-worthy (mahing up words)...
BUT, I have always considered SML & SML2 as part of the Wario Land series - Mario saves Daisy in SML to come back in SML2 and fight Wario, who then goes off and has 4 2D adventures (and I don't count Treasure's Wario World, but you might).
As for DK - DK, DKJr., DK3, then DKC 1,2,3, then DK64, Mvs.DK, and any future games...
It goes on and on forever...
Bowser Jnr. I don't think is Baby Bowser from YS and YI - one is BABY Bowser, and one is his son. Baby Mario is BABY Mario - he is playable in Mario multiplayer games simply for the heck of it - I doubt it means anything... the mulitplayer games aren't meant to make ANY sense - just to be fun... I guess...

I think there's a pretty distinct difference between Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. Baby Bowser (Bowser as a kid) is pretty scrawny, while Bowser Jr. (Bowser's son) is a little lardball. Also, about the Pokemon characters... Remember we meet the player-named characters from Red & Blue again in Gold & Silver. And their names there are RED and BLUE (go to Pallet Town in Gold or Silver. You will find Red's House and Blue's house. And don't forget Gym Leader Blue in Viridian City. )

And indeed the tough battle with Red in the depths of Silver Mountain.
The Links in Zelda are sometimes tricky to work out. I mean... are the Links in the Oracles the same as Link from LA? Are the Four Swords Links, and the Minish Cap Link the same as TWW Link? An interesting soundbite from Shigeru Miyamoto suggested the new "grown-up" Link will be the same as TWW Link... but grown up. But he was a little ambiguous about it, so it's entirely possible it won't be.
SML and SML2 were developed by Nintendo's RD1 rather than EAD, and RD1 also do all the Wario Land games. Miyamoto still contibuted towards them, but it was Gunpei Yokoi in charge.
I imagine you're right about the Baby Mario/Bowser being in the "party" games - still it leaves one feel uneasy. I liked how they joked about it in the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! manual.
The Pokemon heroes will be included as they are significant Nintendo characters. However, what names to give them is tricky... the best Pokemon comic (Pokemon Adventures) has them named Red and Blue (hero and rival respectively) like Pokemon GSC does. But they have a number of "default" names, and they're different on the different editions... and the same is true of all three Pokemon (GB) heroes.
Though I suspect I shall call the hero of Pokemon Colosseum Wes, as that's the first default name you can give him.

Well, looking back through the Pokemon games it seems that good choices for the hero/rivals' names would be Red & Blue, Gold & Silver and Landon & May.
Here's an idea... how about, as an example: Red (a.k.a. Ash or Jack)
Putting in the other default names in brackets could be a nice easy way of leaving it open. And don't forget, Ness had a whole buttload of default names to choose from. ;D

Yes, and in the Japanese version you could have a number of Mario names or even the names of the Beatles.
But Ness will remain Ness... and most namable characters with an obvious default name will be given that name. Don't forget, even Link has to be named at the start of each game!

Fryguy - having not ever played Mario Kart DD myself, what is the joke in the manual regarding Baby Mario?

Oh, they just go: "Mario and Baby Mario in the same game!?!" ...one of NoA's finest jokes But nonetheless, nice to see them acknowledge that the Mario spinoff games have gone a little bit bizarre.

I was just wondering, Fryguy, do you plan on putting the "Strange Tune", "Dolphin" and "SSBM Trophy Guide" sections back on the "Specials" part of the index? (I know the SSBM Trophy Guide is still accesible through other places in the site.)
P.D.: You can only acces the Tamagon trophy page from the alphabetised list and the grade list, and since you can access it using it cheat cartridges, I think it is possible to find out where it fits in SSBM's "Normal" list and its "Game" list, unless you haven't included it those pages for those lists because of not being able to find out where it gpes because of the trophy being totally removed from the European version. I may PM you this if you don't see this post.

The thing is, there's no meta-narrative concerning the Mario games, or even the Zelda games.
Unlike Metroid where there is a kind of continuous story, in Mario and Zelda it's just basically a repetition of the same events.
Trying to make a proper order for *all* the Mario games, for example, seems a little silly, especially if you're trying to take into account all the spinoffs. In Yoshi's Island, where baby Mario and Bowser were introduced, as far as I was concerned, they were the same Mario and Bowser from the later games. The fact that baby Bowser makes a reappearance in Luigi's Mansion, when Luigi is old - well, that's just because they've expanded the characters in the 'Mario Universe'.
Mario games aren't about the narrative (unless it's an excellent RPG), and weren't made with that in mind. Even the Zelda series only has a vaguely defined narrative, which they explain away by saying it's a new/alternative universe each time.
I don't want to rain on your parade here, I'll be interested to see what you make of the mess. But it seems to me that Nintendo just use whichever characters suit the game they are making at the time, which is fine, but not very convenient when you're making a timeline.

The fact that baby Bowser makes a reappearance in Luigi's Mansion, Er...does he?

(I know the SSBM Trophy Guide is still accesible through other places in the site.) No, the SSBM trophy guide moved to SSBM's game page folder. I would like to put the strange tune and Dolphin references back in (as I've been covering them in the cameos & references) but I'm having a think about how best to do it and where to put them.

Haha, probably not. I expect I've imagined him in there... isn't he one of the bosses? Apologies if not.
