Here's some news on a few early runners for Capcom's side that didn't make it - Beyond Ingrid and Phoenix, Arthur was also considered! MAN! I would have loved to see him in a fighter! XD

The thought of Phoenix Wright fighting with a desk on wheels is just fhiorjetphg4erge How could his legs possibly be that hard to animate? XD
Also, I figured out a way to resolve the OBJECTION! problem. It should be one of the ultimate moves - this way the fact that it's unavoidable makes sense. ;D

Well, I don't think it was the difficulty of animating them - I think they meant that the AA devs never shown how Phoenix walked or ran in the AA games, and the TvC devs were a little afraid of creating that. Or something. XD

Confession time. I was at Best Buy, and they had both A Boy and His Blob and Dead Space: Extraction each for $29.99. And then I saw one single copy of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom all by its lonesome self (which I guess is not a bad sign). I couldn't resist, so that's what I got. I guess Blobonia will have to wait until next time to be saved. Anyway, if anyone else has the game and is able to play online, here's the ol' friend code if you want to set something up: 4426-3416-7633

I'll face-off with ya, Nester (when you have time, of course). Here's my code.

Ah. So that must be why he showed up in Kajin No Soki's ending.

I'll face-off with ya, Nester (when you have time, of course). Here's my code. 5199-3887-3023 I probably won't have time today, but maybe tomorrow night. Perhaps around 11 pm EST/8 pm PST? Maybe earlier if it's convenient for you. Maybe I should set up an appointments thread like we have for Smash Bros? Ah. So that must be why he showed up in Kajin No Soki's ending. I don't think that had anything to do with it. The endings seem to be filled with cameos anyway. Technically speaking, Arthur was already in a versus game as a "special assist" character in the original Marvel vs Capcom. Maybe that doesn't really count, tho. But as a fan of Ghosts 'N Goblins, I'd love to see Arthur as a proper playable character in a versus game.

Sure. Any time after 2:50 pm EST is fine.
Yes, that seems like a good idea.

Nester - As I said, both games are excellent, so you didn't make a bad choice. I'd love to play as Arthur. He deserves a spot so bad.

Ah. So that must be why he showed up in Kajin No Soki's ending. I don't think that had anything to do with it. The endings seem to be filled with cameos anyway. I just want to say, Buzzard, that I shouldn't have been so quick to speak. My initial reaction seems to have been naive. Now that I've seen more of the endings, most of the characters in them are actually from the game, making Arthur's appearance a bit more conspicuous. Your observation might be right after all.

Well, Arthur was in both the animated and UDON's endings. But, Phoenix and Ingrid were not from what I remember. Also, there's plenty of cameos from other Capcom properties in UDON's endings from several games that weren't considered as far as I know (Star Gladiator, Haunted Ground, Red Earth, Cyberbots, and Tech Romancer leap to mind), so I can't quite agree with that point. Still, it could be a factor as to why he got so much love!

Actually, I still haven't seen all the endings yet, and I forgot about seeing the Red Earth cameo, so maybe I should just keep my mouth shut. Altho, I suppose making assumptions about whether or not characters were considered for inclusion based on cameo appearances in whatever context has no significance or merit whatsoever. In any case, all those cameos are really cool!

I just came across this interview with Christian Svensson at Gamasutra. He's asked about the resurgence of popularity in fighting games: And has the kind of fighting success extended to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
[Christian Svennson]: To some degree, yes, but not to the same extent. Let's put it this way. That was always a challenging project from a "Is this appropriate for the Western market?" [perspective]. A lot of people worked really hard after the outcry of fans who really wanted to see it happen over here, to bring that Westward.
There were a whole bunch of questions like, "Will fighting fans really support something on the Wii?" And, you know, we're a couple weeks in right now, and we've been doing re-orders. We're not at all dissatisfied with the sales at this point. We are cautiously optimistic that it's going to have long legs...
The Versus series is well served by Tatsunoko as an outing. It really happens bring Versus back as a viable brand for Capcom. So, in that regard...
And I think the fighting community is what has driven that far more than the Wii community at large. It's the fans. They may also have a Wii, and they may be a 360/PS3 player primarily but they also have a Wii. And then there's also a lot of people who bought a Wii just for TvC. Without the fan support and the fan requests, A, it wouldn't have happened, and B, we wouldn't actually be relatively pleased with where we are. So, I gather the game could be doing better, but it hasn't outright flopped (at least, not at Spyborgs' levels).

Here's my finalized Opinion piece on the game. Awesome game, should be bought by fighting fans!

Here's what I posted in response to that in case anybody else is interested XD
Huh, they don’t do the recolor/slight move adjustment thing this time? That’s pretty cool (bone-claw Wolverine was such a cop-out), and it makes me feel a little more sure of the roster.
I’m curious though – does Tatsunoko have any joke characters? In MvC2, it was great how Capcom provided at least three joke characters (Roll, Servbot and Dan off the top of my mind) but Marvel had none because COMIX R SRS BSNS RARR >8( They couldn’t have put in a jokey hero like Howard the Duck? (As awesome as Howard is, he’d be a pretty good joke fighter.)
But I’ll definitely check this game out at some point, maybe once the price goes down a bit. I already guilt-impulse-splurged on STTR XD;

Roll is in this game, so I guess she's the only one.
I suppose Frank West could count as a joke character of sorts but he isn't intentionally weak.
